UMvC3 ToP Tier ANCHORs

Deadpool’s not terrible on anchor. it fixes his big issue of low damage significantly, my only issue with it is his iffy assists (though quick work is amazing for some people).

Spencer at best is probably just a better version of She Hulk as anchor. Towards the end of Vanilla and into Ultiamte he became pretty overrated as anchor. Very possible to use him as anchor, but you basically have to build up your team from the front to mitigate his issues as anchor.

Dark Phoenix is very overrated as anchor. At least 4 of the new characters invalidate the whole “if she touches the floor you’re done” thing. It’s more like if she touches the floor she can still get raped by supers from those 4 characters. The fact that she lost 50k health (and still IIRC takes more damage when she’s Dark Phoenix) means it’s very easy to snap kill her or get the kill on her after landing a hail mary now.

Although again…you don’t really need the hailmary when 4 of the new characters do a great job of taking care of her DP shenanigans as long as they are alive to fight her and have meter. Those characters only run into issues if she already pops and kills somebody first. As long as DP doesn’t kill anyone after she pops she can still very well die.

I have Vergil, Strider and Ammy as absolute best anchors (as far as everything they bring to a team…not just the XF durp). Two of them rely on XF durp and that XF durp is very oppressive for most of the other cast. Strider specifically also brings one of the game’s best assists and Vergil brings a solid assist. Ammy now gets a 40 percent speed boost while being able to slow you down which is enough to stop any character fraudulence and give her momentum. She also provides one of the game’s best assists and has a tool to deal with every durpy situation an anchor can present. Her and Vergil are basically the best the game has to offer as far as anchors that can slow down or stop other anchors. She also gives the 2nd character basically a full screen reversal that can potentially turn into damage.

All 3 are anchors that you are almost required to snap to not have trouble later on. You have to treat them like non 5 bar Phoenixes basically because of the stark advantages they give to point characters and or a team’s comeback potential.

From there it’s the other anchors like Wesker, Phoenix, Magneto, Super Skrull, Dorm, Felicia, etc. as far as power anchors that can tear down a team. Those characters I mentioned are right under Vergil, Ammy and Strider free. From there it just goes into solid or sub par anchors. Although they don’t bring quite as much overall value and disregard to an opponent’s team in the anchor spot as Strider, Vergil or Ammy do.

Other than that people need to start building their teams more where the game is going which is making your team as oppressive as possible from the front as possible. Domino effect.

Rubeks plays MODOK anchor. Not sure how I feel about it, but he does well.

Depends on what you want in an anchor. If you just want someone that you can fall back on and probably get a 1v3 comeback, Vergil/Strider/Phoenix/Super Skrull/Wesker/Felicia are your best bets.

I think players like Marlinpie are showing that anchors like Ammy ( Semi-strong run it back anchors with high utility, along with Dante etc, anchors that basically help you make it so the enemy team never gets a chance to random you out. ) are going to become more and more prevalent, possibly even necessary. Then of course you might even need anchors like Sent who can escape those incoming setups, too bad Ammy vs Sent is a tough matchup for Sent ( What isnt? )

Came in… saw Wesker in top 5 anchors…

On a less serious note though… best anchors depend on certain conditions.

For example, Strider, without XF, frankly doesn’t make a very good anchor, and Vergil without meter isn’t particularly scary either (“needs” one or the other). Making an actual top anchor tier list would need to be more specific in such areas.

So, on that note, assuming we’re in a vacuum where the anchor has XF, 5 meters, and doesn’t die on incoming:

  1. Dark Phoenix
  2. Strider
  3. Vergil (Though, if Vs. Dark Phoenix or Strider, Vergil is the #1 anchor)
  4. Dormammu
  5. Morrigan/Super Skrull/Felicia/Arthur (Kind of a toss up here imo… pick 1 and the other 3 are mentionables)

I’d pick Amaterasu and/or Magneto and/or Dante to round out the top 10.

just a reminder;

dorm can set up unblockables by himself, has left right mixup by himself, has huge normals, has multiple OTG moves, does ‘big character’ damage, has a fly, has a teleport that can be done anywhere onscreen, has an airdash, can airdash with a number of his normals and crossup with two of them, can easily chip out a character with 2-3 bars minimum (guaranteed death - xfactor literally inescapable, or without xfactor and meter you can set up an unblockable on characters coming in), and a tidy zoning game on top consisting of fullscreen pillars that again, otg.

i would put him near phoenix as among the best anchors, strider is pretty funny too simply because 3 bars and xfactor is adorable, and he is a very small character with excellent mobility in the first place regardless.

Excluding the gimmicks of Phoenix and Arthur, top 5 anchors imo

Strider
Vergil
Magneto
Dormammu
Ammy

The tools these characters have in XF3 become way too ridiculous. A lot of the anchors listed in this topic are all good and capable, but I feel these 5 just gain way too much.

Ok and how is Wesker not top5, assuming at least that the character has XF?

His normals become even more ridiculous, his mixup is almost impossible to deal with. Even the few characters that can deal with him, have to a) be already out and b) can still get randomed out. He inc mixup is very strong, he can ambig AA, teleport is much harder to punish. He kills characters very fast and usually doesnt need meter which often leads to him having 3 bars if he does run out of XF before ur last char is dead. Meaning that he can still kill the next char in one touch.

Not to mention theres strong displays of how good he still is in XF in tourney play. He still reverse OCV’s on the reg, hes still on a ton of teams, he still gets snapped in.

I don’t see how he isn’t top 5. It just feels like people are counter reacting to the overreaction of how strong wesker was at the start of UMVC3. Hes not as strong as people first thought but he is still most definitely a top5 XF char.

Also I still don’t get the strider love sorry. Ya hes fast, he can varja and teleport freely but he still kills relatively slow. Even with lvl3 if you manage to block a few things chances are he wont even rly have it for the second char. He wastes a lot of XF time killing chars and once he runs out hes pretty average by himself.

If we were rating on just killing one char as anchor, or 1 1/2 chars then sure I’d rank strider top5. You’re gonna lose one char to him if he has 3 bars and XF. But if were rating on comeback potential mostly concerning reverse ocv’s or 2 char kills I don’t feel lie hes top 5.

Also if hes a top tier anchor why isnt he used more? He has a great assist and you don’t need to master him like you need to on point as mixups become easier to do and everything is much safer. Yet in america and japan hes not used much as an anchor.

Strider level 3 x-factor is beyond retarded.

Strider doesn’t need meter or XF to run it back against an entire team. he can fit like 3 50/50’s into the span of a single marvel second.

wesker, shehulk, ironman, dante, rocket

In XF3, Strider has 1.1mil METERLESS loops, is on advantage after EVERYTHING he does, and is pretty much unblockable. You’re getting mixed up as long as he stays onscreen in XF3. Whether that’s high/low or left/right, or all at once, Strider can do it.

With 3-5 bars, he has all that, and he has a lockdown super that can easily kill 1-2 characters alone, or you can use Ragnarok, which is invincible (utilities should be obvious here). Running it back for a reverse OCV isn’t difficult with him at all.

My top 5 anchors:
-Strider
-Vergil
-Phoenix
-Arthur
-Magneto

Morrigan I swear that bitch crazy on XF3 her speed and easy to combo level 3 is certain death for most.

The problem with anchor vergil is that without assists you need x factor or youre not allowed to press any buttons. So it sort of limits your options earlier in the match if you know using x factor just is not an option.

Hey look, it’s that one Cap user! Hai Otter! (Not too sure but just wanted to say hi)

Anyways, yeah. I agree with the people who say Strider makes an excellent anchor for level 3 xfactor. Meter for him as anchor and in xfactor is a bit optional, but that Ragnarok may come in handy if you were to mess up your combo.

So with that

1.Wesker

2.Morrigan

3.Vergil

4.Hiryu

5.Sentinel(no seriously, this guy gets me EVERY FREAKING TIME.)

Top is definitely Phoenix, Strider, Vergil. Followed closely by Akuma, Ammy, Felicia, Wesker and Hawkeye (mostly if the other person has burned their XFC). Magento and Arthur are really good also. Morrigan isn’t bad, but she should have backup to be more efficient. Firebrand could be a good anchor if he was loaded with meter and XFC. Speed up+lvl3+XFC3 is a lethal combo.

You do not need X factor, just meter. So save one of the two at least.
And even 0 meter no X factor vergil has a better time than quite a few characters.

I would say that Dark Phoenix is flat out the best anchor in the game. But if we are to assume that the anchor will have x factor and meter to spare, without putting these in order the best anchors are probably

(Dark) Phoenix
Wesker
Hiryu (until x factor and meter runs out)
Vergil
Akuma

In theory, there are many other characters who make great anchors with meter and x factor such as Felicia, Dormammu, Super Skrull… even Arthur has a level 3 inescapable lockdown. But I feel that whereas these need to get their shenanigans going, Wesker, for example, will cross you up in XF3 with his Phantom Dance even if you’re blocking.

What are you talking about…?
