I hate when people say x isnt a good anchor. Whoever your best character is can be a good anchor. Morrigan isn’t described as one of the best anchors in the game but for me she’s the easiest to maneuver with and the character I have the most experience with and I’ve had a decent number of reverse OCVs with her playing against my friends.

Now being serious, is not that you can’t play well with a certain character in the anchor spot, we are talking about the top anchors characters, not the players who use them, for example; we have seen the Spencer of Combofiend comeback like 538578345874 times, is because HE has the skill, but Spencer itself is not top anchor.
Can someone show me a video of XF+SS Vergil vs XF+Ouro Strider because from my personal experience, XF+OuroStrider kills vergil. While i do know that SS nullifies ouro, Strider is just too fast in the dark mode.

Study more game theory. Exploitative play is great against scrubs, but against players playing optimal (doesn’t mean what you think) so called “random” is the higher level play.

You could move a lot of characters out of their respective positions, but this is where I believe everyone works best.
I disagree with Shuma and Hawkeye on point, and for alot of these characters it’s very team dependant.
a case could be made for hawkeye, magneto, dante, vergil being better as 2nd or anchor, at least on certain teams… (dante,vergil, mags etc.) imo.
point morrigan and taskmaster could be argued as well but for the most part id agree.
After giving it more thought, Hawkeye might be better off being in the second position as he becomes much more dangerous with meter.
Shuma’s assist, while very good, isn’t what makes him good. He is a TOD character, but he needs a lot of support to get in. If he has support and can get in, Shuma can kill everyone in the cast. He’s not a good anchor.
Well that falls, once again, for what you’re using shuma for. Someone like hAZ Angelic uses a wolverine/dormammu/shuma team and needs that shuma assist because of just how good it is, so while shuma does have that dangerous TOD combo, some players might want to use him mainly for his assist.

Still, I tried running Hawkeye as an anchor but I’ trash with hi so that didn’t work out too great. Magneto’s my actual anchor, and though I’ve seen him mentioned as a underrated anchor, I’d advice against having him there lol.
Most characters with zoning tools and projectile or full screen specials/hypers can be top tier anchors, imo, along with various teleporters (Strider, etc) and whatnot. Depends entirely on whether you have XF, how much meter you have, and what characters and XF/meter your opponent has left. (And what assist they provide for the point character.)
Take Magneto for example: with XF ready and two meters, you can more or less rule out the opponent calling in an assist outside of a blockstring unless he wants to take two XF3 shockwaves to the face, and so it gives you a sort of bonus to your neutral game. Against teleporters or people with invulnerable hypers or cinematic hypers (Storm’s Elemental Rage, various level 3s, etc) it doesn’t work in most places, so it’s situational.
Without those two meters, you have to try and either work your way in solo or try some sort of XF guard cancel into a grab or some other combo (unless he can zone that particular team alone). Your opponent doesn’t really need to fear bringing out an assist to lock you down, etc, so that can get hard to accomplish.
It’s similar to Dormammu for example being a very good anchor in the right circumstances, but rather less threatening if he doesn’t have meter or an opponent has XF remaining to neutralise his chip damage. It all depends on the specific situation.
Angelic posted in the shuma thread about how he replaced mystic ray with hidden missiles in a grand final set and reverse ocved after losing the set with mystic ray. Mystic ray is overrated. It’s slow. It causes next to hit stun or blockstun. It comes with a mediocre anchor. It’s otg is ass. It also starts low so it’s even slower than it looks.
I’m really no shuma expert so I won’t doubt what you’re saying, but my main point wasn’t that mystic ray was this godlike assist. My point was that on some teams Shuma just makes more sense on anchor then he does on point. Would angelic play Shuma/Dormammu/Wolverine? Probably not.

I don’t think Magneto is really an anchor; he only fares well against those who would have been good match-ups for him anyway. There are there obvious boosts that come with XF 3. But still- He can get thrown out of his tri-dash, his only safe normal is his crouching light, and even that starts in six frames if I’m not mistaken. Plenty of characters normals start up in 5, if not 4 frames. And his disruptor is like minus 20.
And there’s no way way he’s approaching a mash-happy Vergil. I keep getting reminded of that.
I completely disagree. Infact, he is actually one of the best anchors in the game IMO.
