Besides, my statement wasn’t so much on which formats were “good”, which is heavily debatable (except for March 2012, by far the worst ever). It’s the fact that the game no matter what was bad. It’s just a matter of whether the formats keep it bad, or just make it outright worse.

There was nothing wrong with those formats. They were the only ones where the best players actually consistently won, unlike now where every YCS is won by a different person and the Top8/16/32s are always super random.
Chris G wins consistently in Marvel, does that speak to how good things are now in Marvel?

Ygo sucks though. I played for about 4 years, went to nationals a couple times, the game was never good. It might have got better later on but I have friends who still play and every time they tell me about the game it just sounds more ridiculous. Whoever had the idea for synchros was on some good shit.

I played from when it came out to 2010, then a few months in 2012 and 2013. It’s not even the same game anymore.
lol synchro/xyz were just terrible mechanics, but the ridiculous amount of tutor/special summon nowadays is just the worst
In context of the game itself it was fine.
In context to other games, it was still a bad game.

So I’ve been jumping between fighting game streams and WCS Starcraft 2 streams all weekend (esports aaaaaa) and for a game/community that takes itself so seriously as an esport its streams are hilariously amateur. These are official streams run/backed by Activision-Blizzard and fighting game streams make them look like a joke (if they actually needed any help looking like a joke). Their commentators go off on more unrelated tangents than Chris Hu, their equipment has more problems than Bifuteki’s, and their guy introducing the matches sounds like he’s introducing a reality show on the “History” Channel…
…but that’s where all the money is.
