Truthfully, as silly as the health nerf was, I can deal. I just wish they had simply limited her to one TK Shot in the air without putting her into free fall recovery.
That said, every single nerf she received was honestly entirely unnecessary. They do nothing to stop her “welcome to die” set ups, and she has actual valid counter picks now in Strider(at least on assist, although I think Vajra would be a nightmare even on point, just haven’t had to deal with it yet) and Hawkeye. I haven’t even had a Hawkeye player attempt to snap her in yet, because if they have 2 bars, they win. Add to that the universal meter gain reduction, side TACs, Soul Drain, and yes, even Shuma’s throw (which leads to really nasty 550k+ combos) and the additional no tag/no assist length after a snap back, and the game has simply been altered enough to tone her down even if she had received no direct nerfs. They honestly feel more like appeasement more than anything.
Glad to see that I’m not the only phoenix player still playing her in ultimate. We are a dying breed lol. I just really can’t wait till a big major comes and we see if any of the pros will use her still. I highly doubt it except for maybe F. CHamp or viscant lol.
The air special nerf was necessary, it’s just that Capcom’s implementation is less than stellar. Play Phoenix against X-23 in vanilla. X-23 literally has no way around the TK Shot spam. If you play smart enough and keep Phoenix in the air, neither does Wolverine, or Hulk, or Captain America… You get the point. Multiple TK Shots with no consequence had to go, but making Phoenix even more fragile than she already was and completely* defenseless* under certain conditions was an absolutely horrid idea.
That aside, she did get some extremely beneficial changes in *Ultimate *that would make her a more viable point character if it weren’t for the health nerf. The decreased hit stun decay makes a huge difference.
But Morrigan for example can still do that to X-23. Any of the few characters that can fire projectiles at both the diagonal angle and straight angle, along with flight can basically keep away from the characters that couldn’t touch Phoenix ever still anyway. It’s more of a symptom of the lack of assists capable of controlling that space than anything else, and Vajra goes a long way to helping correct that.
actually strider H vajra on point is not as bad as we thought . In fact it is actually unsafe if used with assists cuz it leads to free throw once he lands
X-23 has a much harder time against Morrigan’s fireball flight cancel spam than even Vanilla Phoenix’s TK shot spam. X-23’s wave dash is so fast that she can wave dash behind Phoenix and air throw her before a 2nd or a sometimes even before she can throw a first TK shot out. X-23 even as a point character shouldn’t be afraid of Ultimate Phoenix at all. If you touch her or air throw her, fireball goes away and you can tear her up. H talon attack and wall jump can be rather effective against punishing her shots also. H talon attack is basically turns X-23 into a self projectile for dealing with the slow start up of her H shots.
X-23 + Dante jam session = Dark Phoenix killer any way. Even if Phoenix has 5 bars those two together plus meters can equal Dark Phoenix dying early.
Ha. Dark Phoenix no longer takes 20% bonus damage from throws/captures/cinematics. Funny, I was always certain that the damage bonus on those moves against her is what led to the DHC glitch, and is soon as the DHC glitch is gone, so is that damage multiplier.
If thats ture then it explains why she got a health nerf too…:bluu: and the addition of button mashing hypers since most have the max damage equal to her full health.

I can assure that you haven’t played as Phoenix. 2 lives?? Are you retarded? She dies in one half combo. The fact that you say she has 2 lives tells me that you don’t know what you are speaking about.
It is still an issue. Can you think a little? She can die by a random super. Or can be chipped to easily. I like Phoenix, not Dark Phoenix and Phoenix is too weak now. What Capcom did was really stupid. They could have weakened Dark Phoenix and strenghten Phoenix… but no… you cannot play Phoenix without Dark Phoenix. She can be killed pretty easily before transforming, and even when you transform, you can die by a single mistake. WTF is Capcom thinking…
And what really pisses me off if that you have powerful transformations of characters such as Level 5 Frank and Phoenix Wright turn about mode, but those characters aren’t shit at their normal mode. Frank has excellent normals. Phoenix Wright has lots of HP and trial mode has good moves. Phoenix is not a good character without Dark Phoenix. She is not fast enough to compensate for the lack of health. Is my favorite character story-wise but in this game, I hate what they did to her. An incomplete character that cannot survive by herself. She needs the team to reach up level 5 and even after that she can be killed by an intelligent player or die by one mistake. Give your 5 bars and x factor to another character and you may get better results.
Phoenix was too powerful in Vanilla. She was nerfed very hard, but is still playable for all the reasons that have been stated before. You just can’t rely on her to save your ass every time now, that’s all.
