too many anime girls in fighters made during the ‘dark ages’ for most people.
All it really was was Capcom not making a fighting game for 10 years. There were still plenty of fighting games it was just the biggest money market for it had not been tapped for 10 years.
Capcom realized their biggest market for fighters was in the US and finally put together SFIV. The rest was history.
Probably because Marlinpie doesn’t think Viper is mid tier, and think she is the best character in the game?
Highly doubt Noel Brown thinks Wolverine is better than Viper or anybody for that matter.
Just because they require work doesn’t mean that they suck.
Nowhere in that post do I say if you have to work harder they suck. I said there is a road or lesser resistance that leads to equal or better results. How do you even misquote me so badly?
I also won’t assume what players will think. That’s best left for people trying to prop up a weak argument.
I’m pretty sure what he’s saying is why bother using a harder character that gets the same amount done as someone who’s braindead easy, not why bother using hard characters in general. It’s worth the work if you get more out of it, obviously. Hulk is easier to use than M.O.D.O.K. or Viper, for example, but I don’t think anybody is gonna bother arguing that you should use Hulk for that reason, or that Hulk is better. M.O.D.O.K. and Viper are pretty obviously a lot better than Hulk, but Hulk is extremely basic.
Yeah but some of those brain dead easy to use characters don’t play to everyone’s liking I.E. Wolverine can’t zone or play keepaway which may be someone elses preferred style. Saying everyone should pick the best easiest character to use is the sign that someone forgot that the game was still made to have fun while doing it.
You are thinking select assist. Naturally some assist will just be better than others and will allow some characters to benefit from them but note that all the assist you are referring to had some sort of special property to them. You didn’t see Mags ROM’ing off of Ryu’s shoryuken in mvc2 simply because Ryu came in hit once really quick and sent the opponent flying. That’s how most the anti air’s in mvc3 are. Very few actually leave the opponent at a height useable for combos. Giving AA assist invincibility won’t break them, only the ones with a notable property attached to them like soft/hard knockdown.
I must be one of the few who has fun winning no matter the character used.
So cynical, I would have given up on this game long ago if the only Viable characters were the kings of derp. Shit gets boring when you can learn a character in less than a minute and bring him to 90% of his potential.
That kind of thing makes for a pretty shallow game.
The fact that you have such a glib and simplistic view of the game makes me think you’re probably in the wrong thread. This is after all the place to discuss changes you’d like to see or maybe where Capcom made poor design decisions.
Telling everyone they should instead always go for the path of least resistance seems a little counter productive and frankly, fucking lazy and uninspired; those aren’t really traits I’d consider conducive to winning in the long run.
What do I know though, Capcom has been increasingly inclined to indulge the “Noel Brown” school of thought. Maybe it’s just a sign of the times.
No new Marvel came out; same reason why MvC2 got played for 10 years.
that sucks
You realize we’re talking about a video game, right? If you win, you win. The game then resets to another match. Don’t try to use your principle for life on a game I can just switch off and continue with my normal life.
Why is my way wrong to play? I have a blast playing. I have a friend who has stuck with his team since Vanilla was released and he loves it. But we both play to win, because that’s the point of a fighting game. Or really any game.
As far as telling people to take the path of least resistance, it’s the best way to get new players into a game. SRK is also a **competitive **fighting game site. The point for the site since it was created was keep people competitive. If I met someone who wanted to play this game and they asked me, “Who should I play?” I would give them the derpiest characters because they won’t know what the hell to do with Amaterasu or C. Viper. They can branch out after if they want to but it’s cruel to not have them know how the game works and shove them into the deep end of the pool.
Why? I still enjoy it.
The flaw in that logic is there is no growth. If that were the case people would have still thought Iceman was top tier in MvC2 and left it at that. The game still has time to grow but sticking to the herp derp bullshit isn’t going to get it there.
You know when people chose Magneto, Storm, Sentinel, and Cable? In 2001. The game continued to grow for years. ROM itself wasn’t discovered for years after the game was released. You’re 100% wrong on this and history proves it.
You missed what I was saying.
No I saw it but you make it sound like everyone played Iceman day one. What happened in Marvel 3 happened in Marvel 2: people picked whoever, pushed them to the limit, and within a few weeks we knew where most of our time should be focused on. No one came into Marvel 3 knowing how potent Wolverine and Akuma were. There’s no way you can come to a fighting game and not learn something. It doesn’t work that way.
Exactly so stop expecting others to just pick the easy way out because you think its the end all be all of winning. It doesn’t accommodate everyone and some people simply like their characters having depth.
Might happen again. Never know.

You don’t even know my original question, do you?
pretty sure this thread has gone far off topic.
Anyways, the most recent things I can think of to make certain characters better in a hypothetical patch:
make spidermans st.M not wiff on a ton of crouching characters. Other than that, I think he is good, just underexplored
give thor one respectable ground normal; if you want to be generic, make st.H have a point of armor. As it is, its useless. At least c.M can anti-air, and c.l and c.H have their uses.
