Exactly, a character having seemingly “extra” moves might develop some nice tech down the line. As long as there are no overlapping commands I don’t see a problem.
Guile only has sonic boom and somersault.

Right, but you can’t deny that there are some moves that exist for no reason other than to, at best, be used in a combo. This is a bad reason for a move to exist in any game, but especially for a game that has an autocombo mechanic.
Some folks say this improves the character because they can now do more damage in their combos… and while that’s true, it’s not a real option. You aren’t giving the player more correct choices - you are giving them one correct choice and multiple wrong choices.
This just means that, when you didn’t do the combo-only move during your combo, or you did the combo-only move during the neutral game, your opponent didn’t beat you - you beat yourself by making a mistake, a mistake that was built into the game for you to make. That’s bullshit.
(Although, in the Kensou and Arthur example I mentioned above, you shouldn’t do those moves inside or outside of neutral game. Those moves just flat out suck, for both their intended and unintended purposes. They shouldn’t exist, period.)
Like I said, not much competition. Cross slash looks pretty cool, and Maziodyne looks kinda cool, but TV punch wins.

This guy’s best combo was an option select between j.MM SPINSTICKOMGMASHLAUNCHGETTACSPINSPINSPINSPINSPIN, or random Maximum Wesker interrupted by Hopscotch. Those mixups were pretty cray.
His defense was equally notable, having the brilliant strategy of deciding that every time he takes any sort of damage, the best thing to do would be to follow the example of medium difficulty arcade AI and raw tag. Despite being punished every time.
Oh and I think he literally had a panic attack every time I set a Trish trap. He’d either make every effort to run into it or start whiffing fullscreen Nemesis standing S.

Welp, now I hate this manga Baku, just killed a character I liked ch3. Stupid Cat game and changing the rules.
I’m really happy that’s it’s about to be revived. I might get the PS3 version too though since it’s rather inexpensive.
