MK64 isn’t bad, but when you break out the newer ones, they are pretty shitty.
That new Sega Kart Racer is remarkably good though, or, at least the first one was, haven’t spent much time with the new one.
Blue shells, lightning, winning the race for 2.5 laps then losing because the game randomly decided it was a good idea to give 2nd place 3 red shells on the last turn.
Yeah but I dont see how people got THAT mad from that. Like, if you’re just playing for fun, you’ll just laugh when it happens. If you play competitively, you know that shits gonna happen sooner or later, its not like it was just introduced

The new Sega Kart looks pretty good from the gameplay videos I’ve seen so far, the new game is apparently pretty good.

Even when playing for fun, no one likes losing.
The issue with the blue shell (and like 10 different items in the newer ones), is that they don’t feel like somone beat you, it fels like the game got a knot in it’s undies and decided to smite you.
Random = Salt.
All games (video or otherwise) should minimize random as much as possible.

The new Sonic Racing game has more emphasis on items than the first, but not completely ridiculous compared to Mario Kart. I’m still not a fan of boating but karting and flying are really fun. The roster is also pretty weak compared to the first, but whatever they wanted the Sega Tennis roster for budget purposes I assume…or something.
Nah dude even if you play games “just for fun” there will be a point where you’ll get pissed off, because nobody likes to lose… then every time you screw up or someone attacked you in the game after so many times you’ll become angry.
In the case of Mario Kart though, if you get hit by a blue shell you just get angry because you’ll most likely not be in first place anymore and then get bombarded by other stuff… it’s quite annoying.
DKR had the best item system. It was a driver choice based system, not a dice roll and it was glorious.

Mario Kart items aren’t even random in the Wii and DS games, the lower your position the better the items you get by default(bullet bill/blue shell/lightning) Whereas if you are first place you only get crappy bannanas or green shells.
And Wipeout>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Crash Team Racing>>>>Mario Kart. Wipeout makes every other cart racer look trashy in comparison, the Sonic Racing game looks promising too, and the first Sega All Stars racing game wasn’t that bad.
The new Mario Kart games take rubber band effect to another level. I haven’t bought one since MKDS which was imo the last good one.
