Duke for next OTT season creator
Well a lot of titles aren’t future proofed well that’s why people want ports so bad since it becomes harder and harder to play older titles. But I was talking more about online services. I should have been more clear. There’s always a niche but guys are throwing a fix that an MMO might die in 5 years and the like 
Future proofing fighting games is only (mainly) relevant to the competitive players (a tiny, insignificant minority that does nothing but promote their games for free [most of the time]), no company wants to future proof a game if it means people are less inclined to buy the new games when the old one plays perfectly fine. This makes me sad as hell because it’s even an issue for FPS games on PC now. Only thing that we can do as players is hope that there are ways to play each other even when the main servers aren’t available anymore. This isn’t a problem if you can play games via Hamachi and such but fuck, if the companies don’t want to support the games long term they should at least have the option for players to do so via purchasing their own dedicated servers or something.
How is that Wii U treating you guys anyways? I really want one bad. Nintendo has always been my favorite but I wanted an HD console. I’m thinking this Wii U might be the best thing out right now other than the 3DS.
Even if we are just talking about online, it would be nice if I could play a current gen fighter sometime down the road against people who aren’t just within my home town. In my eyes, that’s pretty important.
Even outside of PC gaming and fighting games, I still see people play games like GoldenEye 007, Mario Kart: Double Dash, TimeSplitters, Streets of Rage 2, and various other classic multiplayer games all the time.
Now, imagine if all the games were released like they do these days: 1 Player Offline, 2+ Online, no split screen, no offline multiplayer at all. Wouldn’t that shit be a shame?
But yeah, PC does it right. I must have played TFC and CStrike for about a decade.
I wouldn’t say it’s only competitive players, though. I’m a member of retro gaming forums, and they do retro fighter nights where they’ll start up lobbies for older fighters like Battle Phantasia, MvC2, STHD Remix, SCIV, etc. They aren’t competitive players in any way, but they still have fun with these older titles and, considering these people are all over the US, online is the only way to really do it.

Eh… I much prefer the Vita and PSP over the 3DS and DS.
Only reason the DS was relevant to me at all was Jump Super Stars/Ultimate Stars. I’ve still yet to see a 3DS game that makes me wanna run out and buy one.
But, I recognize I have odd tastes and Nintendo’s handhelds are better targeted at most handheld gamers.
