Pads, more specifically d-pads, are better for movement, since the travel time of your thumb is smaller than the travel time of a stick. Also, releasing the button to go to neutral is stupid easy, so it makes things like EWGFs in Tekken easier.
Sticks are better for the buttons. The spacing of the buttons makes it easier to do certain things. Hitting 4 buttons on a stick is easier for me than hitting the 4 face buttons on a pad because of the spacing.
But honestly, with practice, both can be used with comparable proficiency. Personally, I play 3D games better on pad (though I’m sticking to stick just to get myself to learn) and I play 2D games better on stick (because that’s how I taught myself on arcade cabs). MvC2 is an exception, though.
Yeah I know that, it’s just that certain people think that playing with a stick is just the way of playing any fighting game or something, they exaggerate.
Would you tell me what those things are? I’ve always been curious about it (sure there are things easier on pad, but I don’t know what stuff is easier doing with an arcade stick).
Being a Smash player I should have figured, but I guess you’re all hipster and everything I figured you would also be up on the stick stuff.
That looks a lot like Ultra David’s wooden sticks when he used to make them. All you had to do was pull a latch to open them so it was easy to maintenance.
Arcade sticks are hard to talk about in a way that doesn’t bring about jokes for sexual tendencies or deviances. That’s why everyone should play pad so you don’t have to talk about your stick all day.
Um…I play SC, Tekken, and MvC2 just fine on pad. So dafuq you talkin’ bout, mang?
Yeah, she did say she killed another pad. I just mean that she should be careful with moderately expensive electronics.

I seen a lot of America players rock the pad in Tekken/Soul Calibur/Mortal Kombat.
It’s just that Marvel 3/TVC is hands down the most pad friendly game in the Capcom series.
Just unboxed my new lagless monitor and started playing on it. My execution feels so much more legit now; I started up MvC2 and started doing perfect wavedashes, something I’ve always struggled with in older marvel games (sans macros). :eek:

Pad gives me the same problem. If I play on pad long enough, my hands start to hurt. Once I switched to stick, I never had problems again.
I want a bat-top stick. Ball tops are booty.
Anything that requires rapid complex input or rapid complex simultaneous input.
Alot of Viper’s OS tech is basically impossible on pad.
Well, of course. Not everyone is going to want to drop $100+ on a decent stick. I actually lied to my parents about how much my Madcatz cost because they would have been all in my ass about it if they knew it cost double what I told them.

Soul Calibur tournaments are annoying because so many people play on pad and someone always brings their wireless pad and fucks up the syncing on the consoles.
