You could get around this by using characters that get more out of single drive cancels than HD combos.
TBH though a decent amount of characters have really easy HD’s. The confirm is the hardest part for some. A lot of HD’s are simply (Special xx Special) X N xx Super/Neomax or Super into NeoMax. Some have a lot trickier ones but for the most part most are just basic loops with slight timing exeuction involved.

I swapped Dante for Dormammu as I find it easier to Dark hole after an OTG by haggar. That being said:
I think it would be handy versus Trish or flyers with proper timing though I would rather you hard tag. but I think Haggar helps Dante more than the other way around. not sure of potential of Weasel (call hiim when you get pushblocked?)
Combo potential:
if you are in the corner. you can OTG, have dante riff land pipe and Lariat late enough to still get the hard knockdown if you are fast (I felt it was strict) you can Hoodlum L but jam hits lots so you wont get much from it afterwards. Magneto will benefit more from Jam. But then agaiin that may be since I’m used to fighting guys above me.
Haggar I find I like calling his Violent Axe Assist for Dante. especially after say Missile launcher, teleport, mash H, call haggar late during the move. They’ll be eager to punish and they get sent flying. Lariat May just do better as it will pop them in the air and perhaps allow a combo, but that would be a one time thing where as Axe would likely push them away. Pipe would use your bounce so I figure meh.
I enjoy Axe assist most during dante block strings. Go into weasel shot and call haggar to push them away and stinger or continue to chip/zone. Once Haggar comes out you’ll notice it has a lot of range. There is a deceptive feel to it also when Dante hops back to go into weasel shot. I wonder if Grapple would work?
Plasma beam should be fine for Haggar. It’s slower then Magneto’s deesruptor (which I use) but Plasma beam is good for saying Fuck all your shit the mayor is coming. Should be good to allow Haggar to keep pressuring mid block string
Of course lariat would help doom on some keepaway etc.
