:h: was always heavy on recovery, the question is whether or not it is still cancelable. No self respecting Hulk-user doesn’t follow up :h: with something safe, such as :s:.
What made Hulk’s H scary was that he could cancel it any point. Scrubs just let that shit whiff and you can punish them easy but smart hulks will cover it with cancel into gamma charges which only the first charge can be reliably hit. People making a big deal about Sent’s S back in February just didn’t realize he couldn’t cancel it into anything so if you made it whiff or XF guard cancelled it he was dead. Of course most scrubs online probably still have no idea you can actually cancel Hulk’s H and complain that it only has one hit of armor cuz they’re garbage.
With Hulk, if you don’t catch him in the first charge all of his second charges have armor on them also and he can bait a punish attempt on the second charge with another cancel into his 70 frame invincible gamma crush. Which means he can take you for a ride of armor mix ups and if he wants he can just do the backwards charge to stay safe and then try to amount an armor offense again. It’s really annoying to fight when a good Hulk can take advantage of it and if more armor is true that’s going to be hella fun to fight. Especially with good assist he’s going to be landing quite a few more command grabs and j.H crosses.
Thor’s mix up is too strong to need armor on anything. The reason characters like Hulk and Sentinel have armor is that they have to mix you up through fear of the armor just like Gief has to mix you up by fear of the lariat and ex green hand. If you press buttons you’re in trouble but if you don’t you could be in trouble also. Thor has solid ranged command grabs both on the ground and in the air and a full 10 moar years style tri dash offense. I feel he’s a character that people just need to experiment with more especially since he has a crazy amount of health. With the right assist I can see him eventually being a force to take down if people get more adjusted to his wonky ground normals which are mainly supposed to set up command grabs any way.
Armor on a character like Thor would just make him too easy to play and everyone would be running to a character that can tri dash like Doom or Magneto but can also mash on armors. It would just be day one Sentinel all over again herping and derping. If you put him at the front of a team with at least one or preferably two strong assists I can see him being a big force.
I’m pretty sure people tried their luck with Thor but he has absolutely nothing unique to himself that really makes him worth picking. Everyone has…ya know…something despite their shortcomings but Thor is just slow Thor.
lol @ his “mixup” and “with the right assist.” That has yet to be seen.
SOMEONE would have made him work by now if he was capable. But its cool that you like your character.
I’ve seen some Japanese Thors do some pretty decent stuff with him and every character gets slept on till some nice assist combination. The only character that’s so bad that they’re literally not worth using is Hsien Ko (needs to power up her assist for it to be decent and she makes Thor look like Magneto in speed). Hsien Ko is the only character in the game that’s legitimately slow to the point where it’s not even worth trying to get in. Everyone else is just requires work that people don’t care to put together. Whatever buffs Thor gets in Ultimate it will still come down to whether or not people wanna put work in with the character. Just like with Doom or anyone else a bit more strange on point.
There’s so much in this game that has yet to be seen. Thanks in part to how easy it is to play some of the more braindead characters and the retardation of the XF system though that of course will change soon. When there’s a reason to actually put effort and thought into the other characters then you’ll see. This game in general is a big sand box killed by XF1 Wolverine and XF3 DP.
If all it were to take is some armor to make people pick him more than obviously he wasn’t that bad to begin with. Thor isn’t even really that slow. None of the big characters in the game are really slow actually.
I’m mostly complaining about all of his normals getting beat out by everyone else in the game. Armor would solve that particular shortcoming, just like it does with Hulk. I’ve seen all the mixups and tricks good Thor players use, and they are nice looking, but when it comes down to it, that’s all thrown out as soon as someone like X-23 does a low :l: I’m trying to get better with him though, but it’s definitely tough.
What im saying is everyones put in work at this point. 4 months later and the characters that have bloomed are the ones being used, the reason nobody is playing Thor isnt because “his potential hasnt been reached” its because Thor just isnt good. Thats not to come down on you, but theres a delusion sometimes when people dont see the faults in their character. If Thor had super armor he would still suck because he is so SLOW, his airdash is slow and he cant force any real pressure game. If there is a way to circumvent this in the future then sure, he’ll be better off but at this point the effort you put in isnt worth fighting in his defense IMO.
I’m not judging you. I’ve decided to make Super Skrull my secondary.
Well I think that issue can be dealt with by using his command grab frame traps to stop normals before they start after a tri dash in and make them fear the command grab to set up clean normal hits into combos. That’s basically his whole gameplan is to trap you into the grabs while having assists to keep him in on the advance guards.
