UMvC3 General Discussion: You can't control it

Personally, I don’t mind losing to the CPU. They can be as cheap or as easy as they program them to be. If the CPU doesn’t want you to win, all they have to do is read your inputs and play with absolutely no holes in their defense. Sure, it pisses me off to have to fight Saiki again and again and again, but at least I know that I lost because the AI is cheating, so I can’t really get too upset. Humans aren’t like that, though - and the fact that I can’t get a feel for their habits after 12 games is pathetic. The only game I did win against the guy was when he decided to play a random team for shits and giggles.

Granted, I spent most of that time playing with a team of Wright/Frank/Felicia, which I now realize is completely useless … but even after I went back to my vanilla team of Task/Dante/Felicia, I still got stomped. I just can’t handle it - the pressure. I feel absolutely no pressure when I’m playing locally or when I’m playing the AI, but against a human who has even half a brain… I crack. Completely. I can’t deal with the BS in this game, and I can’t come up with BS of my own.

I just wish I had any scene to speak of here. I curb-stomp every single person in my area, but being proud of that would be like being proud that you make more money than a third grader. I’ve been playing fighting games since I could pick up a controller, yet it doesn’t mean jack shit if all I play against are a bunch of Smash bros who take the game about as seriously as an Adam Sandler movie.

And yes, that is the image I’m thinking about. I coulda swore it had a background, but I must have imagined it.

On the topic of characters we use and why, I will start with Joe. The guy is just absolutely lovable. He’s one of the few characters in the game where I can fully accept them yelling out their attacks. He’s basically homage to Sentai in general, which I will always consider awesome. He is pretty much what most of us would be like if we were made a hero in our favorite show/movie/manga. He’s a character I relate most to being he’s a complete nerd, but you woulnd’t know it from looking at him on the streets. His games ooze style and are criminally fun as well. Not to mention that sexy scarf/cape. You cannot ever go wrong there.

I like Amaterasu because I love Okami. You want to talk about Stylish? I just like that she’s a wolf most of all. The idea is so novel and she probably couldn’t be any other creature. Her laid back attitude despite her literal godly powers is always a laugh. Never has a wolf yawned so much. Can’t relate to her, but I know I would pet the hell out of her if given the oppurtunity.

Morrigan I like because… well partially because I am a pervert. She’s a beautiful succubus. If she were human though, I probably wouldn’t like her nearly as much. I suppose that her being a transforming “demon” just makes me that much more of a pervert for liking her. Her playful and sensual attitude in battle is sweet as well. Asking how she looks during j.:h: always stands out to me. I relate to her in that I make sexy comments to people in real life, despite their gender and sexuality and mine as well, you know, just want to have some fun.

Firebrand was always the guy (of the species I should say) you hated SO much, but playing as him was that much more fun. I played the originals, and man are they great. The way he trollishly dances when standing in place, while smiling(?) never gets old. Not to mention he’s by far the biggest pest in all of marvel. Seriously, his level is him summoning his troll aprentice to tag team dat ass. He appeals to the playful troll I can be in real life in me.

I guess a trend here would be low crouch stances and a strong ability to pester and chip away at the opposition playstyle wise. The latter is probably why I really have ahankering for Ghost Rider as of late. Who I like be being freaking powerful, menacing and somewhat terrifying as well as awesome (Aforementioned reasons also apply to Nemesis).

Also, Jill. “pervert” and “pest” reasons apply.

I feel conflicted. I want to play Team Trenchcoat… but which version?

Nemesis/Dante/Vergil?
Nemesis/Dante/Wesker?
Nemesis/Wesker/Vergil?

And what color?

All white?
All red?
All black?
All alternates? (they look very well together by the way)

[details=Spoiler]Any combination of Dante, Wesker, Vergil without Nemesis causes the 360 dashboard to automatically pop-up with a message that says “what are you?” with the following options.

[]I’m emo.

and automatically restarts itself when any of the choices are selected. It’s weird.[/details]

I just find it funny that Akuma is sociable and has a job.

Customer: How much for this Pear?
Akuma: YOUR AMERICAN DOLLARS ARE WORTHLESS, FEEL THE DELICIOUSNESS OF THE SATSUI NO POTATO ONLY 3.99!
Customer: ZOMG WHAT A DEAL!!
Akuma: RAGING DEAL!!
Customer: <Buys Pear and Leaves>
Akuma: I must find a more worthy customer…

also the CPU is weird they’re defense is rock solid when on very hard (UMVC3) but their combos are very strange i’m seeing some really awkward 300k combos in which they do a magic series, special and then super right away without even launching…really strange. hell PC doesn’t even know how to play a Phoenix properly lol.

CPU Sentinel makes me laugh so hard due to how subtle differently it plays from human Sentinels.

They practically do the same combos, only one blocks better than the other.

I wish this was implemented on PSN. Would eliminate at least two-thirds of the online players.

Speaking of characters and how they look in artwork. I wish Hsien-Ko did anything in game that was even remotely like what she’s doing in the UMvC3 opening/stills trailer.

Nem/Wesker/Vergil

Has to be all white. IMO.

The computer blocks better right?

one red one white one blue.
team amurikah

Grabbing them never works either, they break away like 90% of the time. Since they don’t play like a human no regular mixups work on them, neither does high-low unblockables and crossups they literally choose to not block (or get punished) and thats the only way they get hit. Its interesting to see how Capcom programmed an AI to play the game though they play like someone who has a rock solid defense but their offense is half-baked.

Computer says “Fuck you” to instant overheads.

Fanatiq, Me, and hordes of other sentinel player gets hit and go “derp”.

Computer for evo 2012!

Yeah, I have no idea what it is, but losing to the cheaterCPU makes me saltier than losing to a real person. It’s just more fun to play real people anyway. I think most of my salt was from my fingers fumbling around and dropping combos in the same easy spots every single time.

Hey, the incident only happened once, right? I mean, you said you went back to your main team after a while, and that it takes a while for you to get warmed up. So I wouldn’t take one bad day as a sign to give up, no matter how painful it was.

Doesn’t the computer fear Air Raid? Like, it just goes into insta-turtle mode? I remember sweeping through Arcade the first few times at a friend’s house with that and maybe Hidden Missiles. I don’t ever remember doing it again after that, though, so I don’t know.

dat master mold programming

vs Ghost Strider online is annoyingly hard, get hit once by Vajra assist and he reels you in for a free big combo.

Getting in is a headache…

The computer also says “Fuck you” to unblockables, lol.

Yeah, the only way I can hit very hard computer consistantly is baiting them to do an anti air against a move they can’t beat. They will always anti air with the weirdest moves, (like Chun Tenshokyaku) for some reason

I don’t know if this has been brought up yet, but when Wesker beats Rocket Raccoon his win quote talks about performing a vivisection on the poor little guy. I wasn’t sure if I should keep playing or back out of the room slowly.

This isn’t just one isolated incident. Never had this bad a losing streak before, but I’ve never had it even close to good before either. I can’t even recall the last time I went to a tournament and managed to defeat even one person who wasn’t from the same county as me. Granted, I don’t have a lot of time to go out to tournaments these days, but the last two I went to I got eliminated 0-2.

It’s nerves, man - mine are made of cotton candy. Like I said, if I fight somebody from my county, I know they are a scrub and I know that I will body them. No combo gets dropped and I will whip the floor with them. I’ll be pulling off Dante style combos and smiling the whole time. If I fight anybody I don’t already know very well, I’ll drop any combo. c.L, c.L, c.L? Yeah, I’ll somehow find a way to drop that. Suddenly, all the match-up info I’ve studied and all the ways I know how to get in on an opponent just leaves my mind and gets replaced with “Mash Down and L.”

I don’t know what the hell is wrong with me. Maybe I should just get shit-faced before every match that has weight behind it.

How the fuck do u punish this ninja? I swear as soon as I see him he’s already kicking me in the head and stops any and all of my attacks. Bout to just do Acid Rain on this bitch all day.

Also, although beatable/easy to lame out (thank goodness for dbl jumps) GR’s jS is fucking retarded. I’ve just been jumping vertically out of his range and using airplay.

Note to self: If Strider has 5 bars and XF3, run like a little bitch and/or spam Okami Shuffle.
