I understand your character loyalty/fandom, because I share it with quite a few characters too. One of my fav characters is Dan Hibiki. Hell, I’d like to see Dan in this game. He’s a pretty popular character that Capcom still likes having around. I even wrote up a whole moveset and everything for him, and he’d be wayyyyy different than Ryu or Akuma. Do I think he should make it in tho? Hell no. I’d be happy, but theres a lot better picks than him.
Her recognition only really stems from crossovers (kinda like Morrigan) because Capcom insisted on putting her in any game that had an option to include another Darkstalker than just Morrigan. As for her playstyle, in this game at least, shes a sort of half breed of Wesker and Wolverine, really. She doesnt bring too much stuff to the table, the roll she plays is done by other characters. This isnt to say shes bad, especially with her Kitty helper and Xfactor infinites, but shes sorta already established. I just think they could have put in a more interesting, newer DS character that we haven’t seen before, who I’m sure would become a popular choice if pulled off well, just like characters people originally didn’t know of prior to this game or thought would suck have become fan-favorites…
Well, I wasn’t really vouching for Demitri’s inclusion, cause I don’t think he should be in tbh, not even over Felicia. I was just saying he had as many cross overs as Hsien-Ko is all.
I still feel like there could have been a “better choice” than Felicia, tbh. She isn’t the worst pick, by far. Still, I have some gripes with the cast others probably won’t agree with. Heck,I feel like Ryu shoulda been dropped in favor of Gill/M.Bison/Urien, Tron should be made viable or axed (even tho I love her) and that Trish and Zerosuit Sam- I mean Battlesuit Jill are lame picks.
Catgirls are a pretty popular trope, correct? I mean, anybody who plays Japanese video games or partakes of really ANY Japanese media knows of catgirls, whether they like them or not.

Similarly, I’d dare you to find a more popular Chinese Hopping Ghost. Or Succubus, for that matter. There are DEFINITELY more popular vampires, werewolves and zombies out there, but when it comes to succubi, catgirls and jiang shi? Capcom owns them.
As for dropping Ryu… I could never see that happening. Dropping Akuma for Gill or Bison, though, I’d be totally for.
And yeah, I’m sure if Jedah or whoever was pulled off well, then they would become popular. Hsien-Ko would have been a popular character if she was a killer, too. We all saw how that turned out, though.
You’re telling me that the DarkStalkers aren’t obviously all movie monsters references with the exception Felicia? Sir, can I buy pot off you? It is so glaringly the the entire theme and premise of the game. Felicia’s motivation as a character is purely fan service. She’s the only character who falls outside the monster theme. Catgirls and nuns are tropes (mainly in porn) but have sweet eff all to do with a game about monsters.
DS Hsien Ko is really not that Marvel, whereas Morgs and Felicia very much are with rushdown orientation and shit they can throw on the screen.
Most characters aren’t either if you take them straight from their own games. The problem is she was supposed to get even crazier shit to go with what she already had.
Instead, Hsien Ko is the only character ever in a Vs game that actually lost moves and plays like a shell of her original self. If Ko was added faithfully from the source material, she’d be somewhat decent. Add a few new moves and tricks and she would be really cool.
But alas, that is not the case and we can only hope for a brand new game in which she’ll be decent.
So I spent all last night playing keepaway Task ranked matches. Even my wife came by, doesn’t really like fighting games, and said “You are being sooo cheap.” For all my efforts not one piece of hatemail :oops:
No hatemail? Then you’re doing it wrong, don’t forget to taunt every chance you get, hell call an assist to cover you while you taunt and teabag at the end. Hope the hatemail flows in.
I’ve been swapping between Wesker and Sentinel at the end of my team. It’s reeeeeeeally hard for me to go away from Wesker now lol. The only thing that really keeps me playing Sent is how good his assist is (it’s still not a true blockstring Max!) and my attachment to him as a character.
Honestly I think Task does all the things I would play Wesker/Vergil for but with more flexibility. Not to mention I am getting just about sick of all the Vergils on xbl. It’s literally every match. There are 49 other characters in this game people!!
I remember asking my older brother if he remembered Darkstalkers from when it came out, and his response was, “Was that the one with the booby cat lady? I remember her from Puzzle Fighter. I think some of my friends played that game too.” So I guess there’s that for recognition.
Honestly, almost any choice would’ve worked. Though if we’re talking about male characters that would fit the engine, aren’t brooding, and would build hype, then there’s one answer:
He’s never been my favorite either, but I think he’d be popular. Plus his airdash game would probably translate well if they didn’t screw it up. I think the only characters I actually dislike are Talbain/Gallon and Lilith, though even then they’re alright I guess.
When you get to a certain point, you kind of stop being an old man and go into a state of being a curmudgeony young adult. You’ll see what I mean in the future.
