You’re telling me that the DarkStalkers aren’t obviously all movie monsters references with the exception Felicia? Sir, can I buy pot off you? It is so glaringly the the entire theme and premise of the game. Felicia’s motivation as a character is purely fan service. She’s the only character who falls outside the monster theme. Catgirls and nuns are tropes (mainly in porn) but have sweet eff all to do with a game about monsters.

DS Hsien Ko is really not that Marvel, whereas Morgs and Felicia very much are with rushdown orientation and shit they can throw on the screen.

I guess you are right, there is absolutely no basis for Felicia to be in the Darkstalkers games, because there are no American films that involved shapeshifting werecats, nor are there any Japanese monsters who do the same.

Oh wait, in Japanese culture there is the bakeneko, the cat monster who can take the shape of a woman - and there are several movies that involve werecats in American film, the most notable being Cat People, which features cat monsters who can take the shape of women.

So yeah.

And if all the DS characters are based off of horror movie references, then what horror movies does BBHood and Q-Bee originate from? I mean, I guess there was that movie where Nic Cage got stung by a bunch of bees while a basket was on his head.

I guess that means if Q-Bee was here, she’d be a hard counter for Ghost Rider.

I remember asking my older brother if he remembered Darkstalkers from when it came out, and his response was, “Was that the one with the booby cat lady? I remember her from Puzzle Fighter. I think some of my friends played that game too.” So I guess there’s that for recognition.

Honestly, almost any choice would’ve worked. Though if we’re talking about male characters that would fit the engine, aren’t brooding, and would build hype, then there’s one answer:

Zabel Zarock

He, like Jedah, was said to have no chance of coming because he was ‘too gruesome’.

But they said the same about Nemesis. Yeah, I’d honestly think Zabel would fit Marvel far better than Jedah, as I feel like Jedah would be a bit too awkward for his own good. Zabel is straight-forward rushdown with very quick normals and specials.

I’d still like to see Jedah vs Dormammu, though.

And yeah, the Puzzle Fighter factor is the biggest reason I feel that Morrigan, Felicia and even Hsien-Ko were solid choices for this game. Puzzle Fighter was incredibly popular.

Dammit I hate the way they release these costume packs.

They know if they slowly release them separately, they’ll drive eager people like me to buy them separately, give Capcom more moolah, and eventually regret my decision of not waiting and buying the full pack. I means it’s obvious why and hard to fault, because dammit I want those Frank West and Ghost Rider alts so bad, and I want them now. (Nemesis would be nice too.)

Alas, I will try my best to hold out. March 6th is so far. At least right now Zelda is distracting me.

I think Zabel’s about the same level of graphic imagery as Nemesis. The problem is that he’d probably use up a lot of memory and would be really difficult to model because he shapeshifts a lot and in really weird ways. Plus, Hell Dunk, though I guess they could just make a generic basketball model for everyone.

If they got his airdash and pressure game right, though, he could be scary. Teleport even gets him arpund projectiles so he can get in and do his airdash j.:lk: shenanigans. He’d have a lot of dialogue opportunities, too. Not to mention a rivalry with Shuma because… Well, you know. But who would be his VA?

As for Bee and Bulleta… I think Bee is inspired by The Killer Bees or whatever that 50’s B-Movie (hurrhurr) is called. Plus, hiveminded hordes AKA streammonsters are scary. Bulleta might be inspired by Roald Dahl’s Little Red Riding Hood poem where she shot the wolf in the head. That, and she’s the most frightening character in a game full of monsters.

You know, I would have really liked a Namco X Capcom fighting game based on the RPG, same characters and everything. Would have been pretty damn nice IMO instead of SF x Tekken.
