UMvC3 DLC Poll Results Discussion [aka Wishlist Thread]

I just went through the thread and checking the # of votes for Carnage and he has them wrong by ALOT

Not all of those votes may be valid. There are several means by which a vote can be thrown out, most notably join date.

Not enough hyping of the game by capcom PR, I think… Seems like they’re mostly just letting it float out there.

I will tell you now that i voted for Jin and my only reason was that…he’s fun. Jin in my opinion was a character that everyone found interesting and so weird. Yes, Jin wasn’t top tier but Jin to me was able to encompass what MVC was all about; crazy ass fighting. Sure a tiny bit of nostalgia but also a hope that people would get to see this character after a game of his own hasn’t been released in a while. But it’s just a wish is all. I hope the other Jin voters can side with me on this one

The only reason why i don’t want X in the game is due to his fans. Through out the lifetime of VMVC3-UMVC3, the Megaman X fans have been straight up assholes. If you said that Megaman X was not in the hints or not in the game, they would flame you and once everything was revealed you would have them troll around streams and threads.

X is the on;y megaman i enjoyed playing though.

IMO, i do think a Megaman needs to be in this game. We need a past flagship character and also a good pair for Ironman. There is no other character better as a pair in this series other than Megaman.I would like a different Megaman just so we can have a different series rep,

The top 2 who i believe should be in this game are

Megaman aNd Captain Commando.

Captain Commando was a flagship character and a very popular character to anybody who has followed the MVC series. He is also a legit pair for Captain America. After them, my personal choices would be Jin Saotome and Tessa from red earth.

Basically, i think DLC’s should be characters who would fit good pairings. As of now, i do not see a good pairing for Deadpool, Ironman, Captain America, and Strange.

Jin Saotome seems like a good pair for Deadpool due to their brash like attitutde
Capcom is a good pair for Captain America due to both of them being past icons/flagship leaders of their respective series
Tessa is a great pair for Doctor Strange, and she also bridges some old-school goodness just like strange does with the old-school comics.

The DLC’s should be Megaman, Capcom, Tessa, and Jin. As for Marvel, we need females so Ms Marvel and Psylocke fit the best choices for female candidates and Venom/Anti-venom . Ms Marvel being an Avengers icon, and Psylocke being an X-force rep and also provide MVC2 nostalgia. She was one of the characters that capcom designed well.

You want weird play Shuma. Just kidding

Wesker had a “Vergil” costume? Now I need to go back and see that… I always used Wesker in his stock costume.

Exactly. Storm isn’t even the same as her COTA/XM vs SF/Marvel 2 self… I think she’s a popular character both in Japan and the USA; it’s a no-brainer. IMO, this game has enough of the “not well known” on the Marvel side to the point I thought we’d not even see Spider Man before he was revealed.

Because of the threat of “infraction”, I can’t really give the immediate response I’d like to this comment. So I’ll just sum it up here:

THIS GAME IS NOT MARVEL vs. CAPCOM 2.

Even if you put Cable and Blackheart in this game there’s no guarantee they’d be the same as they were in Marvel 2. Magneto and Sentinel are different. Storm is different. Strider will be different. There were no Wesker and no Phoenix in Marvel 2, were there? You actually had 2 punches and 2 kicks instead of 3 attack buttons and a “Special” button, right? I’m sorry – I just detest the idea that the only characters that should go into a game or be used are the ones that regularly win tournaments. That alone made Marvel 2 kind of boring after a while to watch, when it became the same six or seven characters in a tournament.

As a Megaman fan, I’d unfortunately have to agree with you. Heck, it’s been that way since before the game was released. Someone mentions Battle Network at NYCC and is immediately boo’ed for doing so. With the MML3 cancellation and him not appearing in UMvC3 (yet), the Megaman fanbase has never been saltier, and I’m really getting tired of the general attitude I’ve been seeing.

It surprises me that Rival Schools characters don’t show up more often in crossovers. Aside from MvC2 and TvC, you don’t really see Rival Schools representation at all. I guess with the series not having been active in a while, there hasn’t been much need for exposure. A shame, really, as the RS games are pretty darn enjoyable. Looking back at it now I should’ve voted Shoma for DLC.

Looking at the final results, I am very satisfied with the volume of MMX and BoF votes.

…Still, I can’t help but be a little bothered by the fact that my vote was voided by my join date. I mean, I’ve played well over a thousand matches of MvC2 (and I’m still not very good at it.) and I’ve been a fan of Capcom stuff for basically forever. I just didn’t feel like joining SRK until recently.

The only question I have left is… was I the only person to vote for Garland?

EDIT: It’s not just my vote, really. To be honest, I find it improper to judge a vote’s validity for a Marvel and Capcom game based on SRK join date. Is there any significant relationship between SRK and Capcom/Marvel fandom? Still, I understand the desire to keep out spam and alt account dupe votes.

I’ve always been surprised by that. Isn’t Mega Man, in most of his incarnations, generally a pretty reconciliatory hero? The sort who is very quick to say “We don’t have to fight” and wants to talk things out?

As for Rival Schools and Batsu, I would actually be fine with him appearing in UMvC3. While he has some obvious similarities to Ryu, anyone who spends more than five minutes with Batsu will see he’s quite different overall. My reaction to him or really just about any other Rival Schools character (other than perhaps Hideo, who is basically Ryu) would be “Awesome; series needed a rep and (name here) should be pretty unique.”

Batsu (SRK poster, not the game character) has also summed up some of my thoughts on MvC2 and ‘real Marvel’ quite well. That said, I’d like to take it further: This sort of elitist entitlement has no place. Is it likely that a good number of MvC3 players never touched MvC2? I think so. Among the less incendiary reasons for this, consider that some people playing MvC3 today may have been five or six years old when MvC2 was released. If today’s revitalization of fighting games is going to succeed, it has to appeal to new blood too; the old guard number in perhaps the tens of thousands at most; we’re not enough to sustain a genre and multiple publishers on our own. New players have to be brought in, and snubbing them for not being around a decade ago is absurd.

Besides, that attitude can be taken to even more ridiculous extremes. Should I start tearing into MvC2 diehards for “not being there to support arcades” in the early 80s, railing at them for not supporting the Pac-Man/Defender/etc. scene which was so vital for us having arcades to play fighting games at in the first place, haughtily demanding “Where were you when Moon Patrol was the latest news?” Of course not; several people who played MvC2 would have been very young children or not even born yet during that time. Older arcade-goers of the 90s would have had to be stupid to lash out at younger MvC2 players on some “you’re not a real arcade-goer” premise like that. They didn’t, and it’s just as well.

Perhaps most significant of all, you don’t see the likes of Alex Valle or Daigo Umehara bust out that kind of attitude. They’re excited to see new players show up for events, glad to see the scene grow. More players means more discoveries, meaning higher skill levels, and more people sticking around to make event pots bigger. All of that means more money and publicity for fighting game players, which means more fighting games. Everyone wins when you leave the ‘old-school entitlement’ attitude at the door.

as I remember the join date thing was to avoid sockpuppeting and such to skew the poll.

Indeed. I recall during the pre-release of Vanilla MVC3, Lupinko was leaking the roster everywhere and he was flamed to hell because his leaks didn’t have Megaman X in it. Nitsuma was booed due to an unstable answer towards X during VMVC3 interviews (i can’t recall), and each of those MMX fans trolled various UMVC3 trailers to streams about that same shit. You just couldn’t watch properly with out having the chat screen filled with negative comments, and that pissed me off because Strider came back which something i anticipated and wished for a long time. I did want X allot before but now i just don’t. As bad as this opinion is to some, my main reason for not wanting X is so his fans can fuck themselves. I don’t care if he would make a great character, or if i loved X4, or how i voted for him in the past (2nd to Strider)… his fans should stick it. period.

Don’t put him in. Let them cry! Starforce or EXE sounds like a better addition anyway, if any X rep deserves to get in it’s Sigma because he is a Villain, he would be unique, he would be a cool pair for Magneto and his Supporter (Deik) deserves it.

Outside of Megaman Characters Jin, Commando, and Tessa should make it in. I highly stand by this opinion.

lol i like cool and funny. Not hentai

I had a giant post, but I’ll just leave it with this:

If you don’t like what you see on the internet, then just look away. X has been the most requested character since the leaked list was basically 100% confirmed last December. I can’t speak for other Megaman fans or their retarded actions while spouting “Megaman deserves to be in more than character! Fuck character!” or “this version deserves to be in more than that version, so fuck you!”, but what you’re saying is literally the exact same thing as that, which is quite possibly more retarded.

We’re here to discuss why characters should be added or how they should be added (which is why I asked why people thought Sigma should be added and how they envisioned him, and posted why I thought Megaman X should have armor supers) so saying running around saying “NEENER NEENER I HOPE YOUR CHARACTER NEVER GETS ADDED BECAUSE I READ RETARDED SHIT IN A STREAM CHAT AND ON FORUMS!” is incredibly counter productive and just asking for trouble.

Let it go. No one is in here saying that your opinions suck… except me saying your opinion on why other people’s opinions suck sucks.

It’s hard to look away when you are watching some streams or trying to chat and a bunch of bitches start waving “FUCK CAPCOM I WANT MEGAMAN X FUCK UMVC3” all in your face. So ya, my opinion is: “Megaman X shouldn’t be in this game because his fans can piss off”.

That’s a pretty dumb reason for not wanting him in. It’s one thing to not like how the fandom is reacting, but letting them get to you is another story. You’re pretty much generalizing the entire MMX fandom as whiny jerks based on what you saw on a stream chat. That’s like making a sweeping generalization about black people just because you watched an episode of The Boondocks or something.

Yeah, I heard a lot of the Batsu = Ryu stuff even when TvC popped out, and I don’t see it at all. Batsu may share some minor similarities in his moveset, but the execution of said moves is so much different than that of Ryu. Hideo being available as DLC would pretty much be one giant troll. But yeah, I’d be cool if we got Batsu, Shoma, or pretty much anyone from that series.

I must admit the Megaman Fans have been pretty annoying on stream.

It

It’s not just in the stream, but nearly every thread that came during pre-releases, reveals or hype was 100% destroyed by a large number of Megaman X fans. From streams, discussion forums to youtube. So what if it is generalizing? I was a strong X supporter too, i voted for him as my second requested character in all the DLC threads the only docile X fans are a small number, and they are comfortable with any megaman who gets in the game and they don’t bitch if none gets in.

You do know that a thread in unity was made for the cancelation of UMVC3, and they where all MMX fans. So yeah, i don’t give a shit if it’s a bad opinion to other people, because to me, it’s a good opinion. Megaman X should not be in the game because those fans should cry some more.

i just want to say something about one thing that i’ve seen around srk for awhile…
this overwhelming …selective memory or memory loss as to anything BEFORE mvc2.

mvc1, mvsf and xmen vs sf exist. these are all decent games for one reason and i feel like nobody even considers them at all. the general consensus around here seems to be to start from mvc2 when considering a character’s worth. thats a shame.
