Seems to me the log assist does a hard knock down. So in corner I can OTG c.H - cancel into medium grenade - Grenade super.
I don’t think you’d have enough time for the grenade M into Grenade Super, they’d pop out of cr.h. Instead just throw the grenade M and Grenade super without the cr. H otg. The first shot of GL already otgs.
And holy shit Log assist does a hard knockdown too? Ok RR is on my team.
I was originally thinking log assist right before a basic grenade launcher after air combo in corner, no need to get fancy.
Forgot to ask this earlier and it might be too late since it’s going down tomorrow but could you test out a corner combo?
I’m trying to see if Chris can connect with a full grenade launcher after an air combo thanks to the log trap assist helping to continue it. No grenade specials needed.
Basically Air combo -> Log Trap assist + Grenade Launcher. If it works correctly then follow up with Flamethrower -> Sweep combo…
I’ve been testing it out with Spencer armor piercer assist since that wallbounces and while it works, the spacing of where chris needs to be coupled with the timing of the assist call is really strict and weird, you can’t be right against the corner because you want the upshot to miss in order to continue the combo right…but you don’t want the wallbounce to happen too soon or you’ll miss with the third shot.
I’m hoping that bigass log will help solve the timing issue since it comes across the screen, but I don’t even know if it’ll hit low enough after the first grenade OTGs and I don’t think the bounce leads to a hard knockdown? Problems! If it SOMEHOW works in a full screen scenario (which I could only see happening if the log can hard knockdown) that would be amazing but I doubt it.
Sorry if this is confusing, I’m just getting impatient haha
Sounds good, I think I may have to call the assist out first before doing the Grenade launcher super near the corner. I would want to avoid the the OTG grenade and assist hitting at the same time.
Yea it’s really about finding that ideal window, since the log travels fast enough it could even whiff before the OTG hits. Who knows, it may be too precise to bother with in a real match but I’m praying it works on a consistent basis because I think it would be HUGE for Chris/RR players.
So first things first…went to UMVC3 vs Norcal #2 tonight. Windzero and I were there trying out new stuff. I just want to get this out of the way…Rocket Raccoon and Chris Redfield is 100% approved.
I wasn’t able to get into the tourney this time because it was the people who were on the “list” who were able to play. Although I got to play quite a bit on the side since there were 5 UMVC3 setups.
Before I get into Rocket Raccoon and Chris synergy other things I found out tonight along with Windzero (Who got trolled when he found out there was no Jill):
-Chris Redfield’s grab >>> OTG Gun >>> self combos is 100% go!
-Chris can Grab >>> OTG Gun >>> Immediately cancel into landmine where it pops them up anywhere on the screen and go into either:
- Full Sweep Combo
- Link into Crouching M for a full basic Chris combo
-However, Windzero found this SUPER nasty corner reset off an air grab. Basically, Chris can grab, OTG cancel into flame grenade, and you can immediately GRAB again as they recover and as you land, the fire grenade will explode popping them up into a fresh new combo!
New Level 3 combo to replace the BNB boulder punch. I saw Windzero do an assist for this combo, but I think if you can keep the combo super simple and baby, LVL 3 will fully connect. So it’s basically:
Basic Ground String >>> Launch >>> Basic Air String >>> Launch Down >>> OTG canceled into Magnum for LVL3.
However, I you need to probably cut down on some hits during those strings so the OTG into Magnum will connect. Sometimes they might pop out, but this combo is a pretty good replacement for the Boulder Punch into LVL 3.
Now onto the Rocket Raccoon and Chris Portion!
ChrisD so I tried out your combo and yes…the log combo into grenade super fully connects. I did basic corner carry combo, and I ended it by calling Rocket Raccoon log assist out first then grenade supering. Although I wasn’t able to get the flamethrower follow up, but only because I was dead close in front of the dude…I believe if I spaced my self a bit more, I can definitely get a flamethrower into sweep combo follow up.
Rocket Raccoon’s log assist is GODLIKE! I was able to hit people at certain super jump heights…since the hitbox of it is essentially vertical into horizontal and then into vertical (durrr because it’s a pendulum). But the best part about this assist with Chris is the fact that…it has a slight delay so you can super jump in the air with Chris and when it comes out…Chris can be directly above the opponent and it’s basically an ambiguous mix-up crossup as the Log Assist comes swinging in. I wanted to try and see if I can combo on the way down as the log assist hit since it causes wallbounce, but I didn’t want to try to do anything too complicated at the time.
The only downside to the Log Assist, is that it has a slight start up time where it can be stuffed. But most of the time I has able to cover RR with grenades and such so that he won’t be hit. Also, it’s very hard once the assist activates since he bends down and makes his hitbox smaller. I approve of RR and Chris!
I did notice the landmine combo on stream, which is awesome because even if you miss after air throw (which still 50/50…sigh), the landmine/grenades cover your ass and prevent any punish off of a whiff. That reset sounds crazy, will have to test that out.
I noticed on stream that the OTG to magnum was missing on smaller characters…might be a problem down the line but we could certainly figure something else out, this is a good start.
Yea like I said before the spacing is key if you want the second shot to miss on the way up but hit on the way down, if you find yourself in the corner you could backdash quickly while calling RR out. Thanks for trying it out!
I do like the idea of crossing up with it, it did look pretty ambiguous once it flies out there. I was seeing some punishing early on but that just shows how you can’t spam him like you could with Tron/Haggar in Vanilla. I’m really stoked to test out every possibility with this assist now.
OTG can only pick up one character like Wesker IIRC. I like that simple combo into lvl3 posted above. But now in MVC3 when I have 2 characters in an air combo what’s the best way to end in lvl3? I am assuming air combo -> land -> j.magnum -> st.Magnum -> lvl 3. I find the timing a bit tricky (lag doesn’t help) so I am interested to know if there are better alternatives. Or does the magnum comes out faster now therefore making it as consistent as boulder punch?
I mentioned it before but it works a lot easier when you have an assist continue after jump magnum. Log trap should work on more than one character so there’s that option as long as the magnum after wallbounce was used still causes hard knockdown.
jumping magnum into standing magnum is not as hard as people think it is. just practice it until you get the muscle memory down. it works on every body and it looks like it’s essential to his game in umvc3 now because of h boulder punch nerf. once you get that down learn to hit confirm standing magnum into lvl3.
I don’t even play that often. And jump mag to stand mag ain’t even that hard. I just can’t place level three to save my life
Mostly good to great news: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVOtSzoaX3A&feature=channel_video_title
Max’s changelog shows sweep combo working after a groundbounce, the sped up prone (it’s sped up a LOT, by the way.), his wavedash and even self relaunching by cancelling otg gun into mine. The heavy boulder punch is worse than I feared, but all around, I am (and we all should be) very happy.
(I’ll watch the Chris video later; there’s way too many UMvC3 videos to catch-up already.)
So, I feel like we should make another, new Chris thread for Ultimate. I’ve felt this way even before Karst provided that wonderful template. If the Street Fighter 4 forums have taught me anything, then it’s that having only one thread for all versions of a character throughout various editions of a game leads to it being overly confusing, highly repetitive (even for the most basic things) and, most importantly, difficult to navigate.
So…yeah. I feel someone should do this. I’m tempted to, because Chris is the person I’ve used the most and it’s likely that I’ll ultimately (no pun intended) continue to use him even after messing around with a bunch of characters, especially since he and Hawkeye and Doctor Strange/Dormammu can probably easily fit on a team together. However, I’m hardly the best Chris around or even more than mediocre–I’m just the one with the most free time (for the next couple of months at least).
If anyone like Densuo or ThaGuy or ChrisD who have “proven” themselves better than me by at least having videos up and are going to stay updating it want to do it, then I will gladly let them. If not, then I’ll put it up by Saturday night/Sunday morning at the latest.
Oh good. I’m not the only one who finds his Level 3 hella unreliable even I’m basically mashing on it outside of the corner. I seriously think it’s the worst Level 3 in the game (and probably still is), though it’s certainly usable. Or…it was, at least before Hard Combination Punch got nerfed; we’ll see how the Magnum changes affects it too.
I’m not really sure I care that much, though, since Sweep Combo got buffed/fixed, which I wasn’t expecting on top of all his other buffs.
It’s fine. I prefer Chris demanding that people suck on this, eat it, and take it as opposed to him asking to bring the pain
I already manage some Fuerte threads which are my focus. I don’t even play mvc3 like that so I can pony contribute so much >_>
Im all for this. I plan to use Chris on my secondary team and I think that all character boards should reset. Hopefully the mods would allow that to happen so the vanilla junk doesnt get mixed with the ultimate.
Honestly playing skill has nothing to do with running a thread. As long as your knowledgeable and keep things pretty organized thats good enough. No one needs to really prove themselves as a player.
(I expected as much Densuo. Just wanted to be sure.)
Yeah, I’m not exactly the competitive either (at present), so it would be hypocritical of me to expect that when offering to do it. I merely meant it in the sense that competitive player is more likely to stay with the character if they really want to and keep playing the game in general. I’m just not sure how much I’ll end up liking UMvC3 depending on what inevitable bullshit crops up later, but I’d personally keep trying to update the thread even if I stopped updating the thread or step aside if someone else wanted to take over if that happened.
I just wasn’t sure how to phrase it without it sounding either more unclear or even more rude. If you want to start it since mods are definitely not going to reset the character boards (they shouldn’t really have to, either), then I can let you do it.
Otherwise, as I said above, if no one says anything by like noon tomorrow, then I’ll just post one in the vane of Karst’s outline.
I will gladly take you up on that offer and help contribute. Is there anything I particular I should follow/create/etc?
I have a good feeling that Chris will get more notoriety this time around, he wasn’t bad by any means, he was just a hard character to use since basically a majority of the top tier characters WERE his bad matchups. Let me know what is on your mind Damned.
Although if possible, I nominate someone like GCyoshi being a top contributor!
(Speaking of things on my mind, your avatar keeps reminding me how I haven’t watched anything I’ve recorded on my DVR, including all those episodes of Durarara!. So behind on everything…)
Despite his DLC costume easily being one of the most boring or least amusing (oh, gods, Zero & Frank’s are just for troll value) ones, I like RE1 Chris Redfield a lot. Hell, he’s a lot of the reason why I’m using Chris since Resident Evil is pretty much the only game represented well on the Capcom side that I actually like; I’d probably use Felicia if I could stand her sweetness, but she was always my least favorite (female) Darkstalker. [/useless information]
Sure. Thanks. If you want to create thread, then please use the template that Karst provided here. It’s pretty detailed and, thus, demanding, which is why additionally part of the reason I was considering doing: despite being a lazy bastard a lot of the time, I can be pretty control-freakish and exacting and I tend to stay on task if I have a guideline to follow as long as I don’t deem it utterly inane.
If you want to contribute, then I suppose just post after I done with setting up that template tomorrow or early Sunday. You and quite a few other people actually have tournament experience with Chris, so that’s a lot more valuable than me only being able to play with him online.
Yeah, Chris was never bad. He just can’t really touch fliers at all–oh gods, that Trish match-up is so one-sided–without assists and the other top tier characters who didn’t stay in the air either didn’t give a damn about projectiles (Wolverine, Akuma) or zoned him better (Wesker [freaking gun], Dormammu, Akuma [again]) than he could them. He definitely wasn’t bad; just limited, which was enough to not see him used, especially since DHC glitch meant that his high life didn’t mean much.
He’ll definitely see more use, especially with him able to zone diagonally from super-jump without leaving himself (as) open when he inevitably missed because of how sluggish things were.
Oh, there should definitely be more than one person contributing. Unless by “top contributor”, you mean that GCyoshi should be the one to make the thread. If so, then yeah, I’m fine with that too. Anyone, really, as long as they’re someone I know will stay on top of that (for months, if not years, down the line); no one should be creating a new character thread for UMvC3 “just because”–too many of the more unwieldy character MvC3 sub-forums already have original posts that have never been updated.
I don’t have the game though =(
I’m down to making a thread though, but if someone else wants to, more power to them.
