I’m trying to get good at this game but damn I just keep losing, I was 4-15 last night. I was trying to try out Human Smoke but that wasn’t working out. No one uses Kano online and he’s apparently top tier so I’ll try to switch to him.
I’ll be on tonight to see how rusty I am at UMK3. Any of the old Xbanders that could remember me knew I was pretty strong at this game. Lets see how we hold up with the lag and all.
o man I love this game!! If at any point you block than freeze with subzero its lag tactics! I was in the dark all this time! Who knew throwing dumb shit out was how to play?
Who’s throwing dumb shit out via lag? Honestly, there are plenty of people available to play who have decent connections where you won’t experience any noticable lag. Even when I play laggy games I don’t throw out random unsafe attacks because that would ruin my “offline” game.
EWA: It’s hard to really justify who is right now from a personal standpoint because I’m playing with a pad, and can’t block/do combos/bike kick properly. So I can not say who is really good or not. As far as in general who the best players are and could be, I am certain that if everyone was able to utilize a button configuration for a joystick, more players would be all over this. I tried to use a couple of different joysticks with correct button configurations, but they seem to jump Up and move to the right by themselves EVERYTIME, so I guess there is some weird wiring issue going on…
Also, who even brought up MKII? Don’t start in about “that not being a fighting game” because you don’t like the way it is played. I am sure a lot of people don’t like Smoke/Kabal/Insert random character that can do 40% combo BS here, or run XX Jab fun. It all depends on the players who remember the game. MK II and III are different games, the run button revolutionized one section of the game, and I respect UMK3 since it took away most of the BS from MK3, but don’t start in on MK2 because you don’t like the way it plays because it’s much more of a defensive game.
I do see people doing things (like constant slides with Reptile and Sub-Zero) that are easier to react to with combos and uppercuts offline, but there is lag, plain and simple. Biggest issue I have is trying to block on a dime and uppercut anything that is thrown at me, because you need to be precise with certain things.
Or don’t get into the fact that MKII simply has less gameplay options and more missing fundamental components than UMK3. It’s a less balanced game, there is more room in UMK3 for other characters to compete with the top tier.
As for controller issues, lag, delay, etc, it effects everyone. For instance, last night when we played, I think I hit you with 2 slides that you blocked but even offline it would have been tough to punish them because of how they were timed. Critically you could have countered with no more than 22%, but there were 3 times when 50-60% counters on my part were missed on my end. There wasn’t enough lag to make a difference though.
EWAShock: You don’t know how the lag feels on my end, or what I would or would not do differently. Controller issues? Anyone that played MK3 on SNES or Saturn has a HUGE advantage because they are a bit more accustomed to it. I just can’t get used to it, and my game suffers. I know you missed some stuff, and (I am not saying I am better than you at this game) I missed some stuff too, but those slides? I blocked a lot more than 2, you only SAW Block come out twice. It also does not matter how much damage I would have done if those were blocked. I do a lot of run up instant block uppercuts, and I can’t do that ONCE online because of the lag. With the character I use, I need to play almost perfect to beat most of the characters. Like I said, this is fun and ok to play online, but (me personally) can not play the way I am used to without lag. Wavenet was much better than this, and even Lex ad something to say about the online/offline deal here, but it’s all we have, so what can we do.
AS far as MKII goes, yes, that is why UMK3 took a step UP with the Run (but also turned off a LOT of players AWAY from the game) but you are completely blasting the game based on the fact that it is older. SFIICE, was that not a hugely popular game at one time? SF2HF took its place, and no one touches CE. MK2 and UMK3 are different enough to actually merit people still playing both, but MK2 (which was much more popular) died years ago, and like I said before, if it was not for the two small areas that still play UMK3, and now the resurrection of it on XBL, no one would be touching it either.
I think lag is hurting this far more in some cases than people would believe. XBL is telling me my ping is really good, and the game moves fast enough, but I have to use Hk, Lp with HSmoke because Hk,D+Lp, D+Hp isn’t comboing and this is against people who have relatively good ping
This isn’t to say I should be doing better than I am (I’m still learning the game) but it really hurts when a simple gatling combo isn’t working.
Yeah, I don’t get it either, the game seems choppy for some reason, and since there are less frames in this game than most other fighting games, it really hurts when you are trying to do certain things in tight spots.
The game was choppy when I played you, with a slight delay. I personally cannot play beyond 50% full ability on the 360 gamepad, which hurts in situations when I’m playing someone I would obviously need more than 50% to beat.
UMK3 is a better game than MK4
UMK3 is older than MK4
So logically, wouldn’t I blast UMK3 just because it’s older? No. Because its better than both games and don’t blast things without knowing about them. I blast MKII because of it’s super ridiculous overratedness. Most people only like it for things that have nothing to do with the gameplay.
Wasn’t there a time when you said you could beat me only using “The Turkey Kick”?
Yeah that lag ruins shit most of the time but if both people have 4 green bars it usually runs really good.
really? I may have to try and only connect with those people, although I’ll prolly only play two matches all night :bgrin:
EWAShock: MK4 did not have something as drastic as the “Run” button added, just some pseudo 3D movement, and even the final arcade version had some choppy bugs that still remained in Revision 3. It does not matter, people will always have their favorites, and a lot of people like UMK3, a lot of people like MK2, so I’ll leave it at that.
Beat you with the “Turkey Kick?” You must have me confused for someone else, I’ve never called the bicycle kick that, and I have not played this game competitively (even though I run MWC and sometimes there are tourneys there for it) since a tournament in 1998…game has been dead for so many years, I don’t know why anyone would talk shit about it, LOL.
50%, eh? I’m at 32.5%, when I’m not using the joystick that goes Up and to the Right randomly. Then I actually move up to 40%, =P
Obviously I am kidding, but I really would like one day to get a stick with the right setup…
wow, i almost pondered buying xbox solely to play umk3 live…to relive my glory days of beating every1s a$$ in the ILL arcades like super just games, just for fun, party zone, alladins castle when i was 14
i guess im glad i didnt spend the money?.
Tekfreak: You’ll still have fun, there’s a LOT of Chicago players playing, much better than any of those places you mentioned, players from Dennis’ Place, Diversions, and Friar Tucks, as well as Times Square, North Pier, and some others…
Yeah that’s the downside lol.
haha i dont even know what Friar Tucks is, i just remember being on wavenet and getting my azz handed to me by someone who was playing from Friar tucks:rofl:
Friar Tucks is an arcade in Calumet City, IL. Not sure if it is still there. Moe30W and throwerchicago are from there. They are in the top area of the leaderboard…
Well, I played a few games tonight for the first time. There is definitely alot of lag, but whats worse is that my skills at this game have gone to the graveyard. Good games to anyone I played from SRK. My gamertag by the way is soul hadou. See you all online!
GT: Ninja Grinder
hope to play some ppl from srk
DreamTR: I saw u playing the last (and only) time i played vs a fellow Colombian gamer (Killermastermk -i know his nick is lame).
