Yeah, that’s the gist of it. Watch any Q video and you won’t be able to find many rushdown Qs, if at all.
You should first try using C&DB as punishers for slow recovery moves like HP SRKs or Chun’s SA2(it’ll connect). Then once you have a general feel for the other characters, try using tick setups or throw it out once they’re in range.
P.S.- You’ll find yourself throwing with Q a lot, as well. Learn his karathrow if you haven’t already.
anyone know how to do the q combo kuroda does when you have your back in the corner… and you do cdb into dash punch which makes the opponent fly backwards to the corner again, and you dash punch the opposite way to hit him a 2nd time?
I believe it’s HK C&DB(seems to be the distance based on the Kuroda SBO vid), hold forward and do HP Dash Punch, and when the opponent flies back to the wall, hit back+HP.
The timing of the first Dash Punch may have to be early in order for them to bounce to the wall; that’s how it’s been when I tried doing C&DB->DP->DP juggles on certain small characters.
Ryu’s Tatsu can get karathrown(or regular throw probably) on block. Akuma’s LK Tatsu can get thrown, MK and HK versions are both unpunishable except by Q’s SA2.
I think thats because ryus tatsu hits only once or twice no? as opposed to akuma or ken where even on block all the legs hit… Also I didnt know I could punish akuma with SA2 after tatsu :wonder:
Ryu’s Tatsu is the least safest because of not just blocked frame disadvantage, but its pushback also sucks. Ryu’s EX Tatsu is much safer though and can only be countered by a reversal 2-frame Super that can reach far enough(best example is Shippu Jinrai).
Ken’s Tatsu also puts him at negative blockstun frames but its pushback is good enough to only get punished by really fast long-reach moves. It’s a very underrated move, despite it being pissed on because of how much better Shoryus are for combo finishes or EX Air Tatsu for air-to-air or escaping the corner.
(And while yes, this move does for the most part suck, low-tier players usually tend to see and take advantage of the potential positives of shitty moves. One example that stands out is Sanchez and the DDT)
Akuma’s MK/HK Tatsu is arguably one of his best tools because of how safe it is against tall characters and characters with no Shoryus. And yeah, the only thing Q can do to punish a blocked MK/HK Tatsu is SA2. Otherwise, unless you’re good at parrying, you’re gonna get chipped to death by being Tatsu’d in the corner(seriously, this IS possible).
I’m assuming you’re talking about EX tatsu>?
I prefer to parry bait with tick lk(once or twice, once if he likes to parry aggresively) to throw off his advance. He will usually either block and sit after the first tick, or he will continue his advance by walking torward x throw or srk, in which case you go for torward/ parry xx punish.
Can someone spell out the exact way that Kuroda does C&DB, dash punch, opposite dash punch like he does on the SBO2009 DVD? Like break down the motions as much as you can. I have yet to successfully land this and I can’t figure it out for the life of me.
