UltraDavid's How-To Q Thread

Can be red or blue sometimes, depending on some unknown parameters i guess…
Anyway, except when you’re gonna die, just block and HK C&Db…

If you jump and air parry, then you can j.RH > mk > Dashpunch > SA1

ok I’m a nub what’s SGGK?

Depends on a lot of parameters, but yes you can do this combo in some situations…

SGGK is a powerful option select allowed by the propertie of a karathrow to be decomposed into only the normal move when a parry occur just before…
Usually, the normal move can be cancelled into special/SA…

I have 2 questions about Q:

  1. How to do double Dash Punch combo after Grab?

  2. How to Dash Punch after his throw without moving?

Buffer the first punch. Buffer = charge back, tap forward, charge back again, punch. After the 1st dash punch is completed, you should have enough charge to throw a 2nd punch.

Against some chars the first punch can be overhead, which is easier. Bigger chars require the first punch to be straight, timing is more strict on them.

  1. Q stands there by default after his throw, so it’ll look like hes just standing there even if you are charging.

Thanks, Bars. You just made Q my third main character.

You are right, he just stands there after throw. I just didn’t notice recovery time.

I Wish to play RPD Rookies Q on 2df.

But you’re ass and you struggle with the concept of tick command grabs :xeye:

Add:

Come to think of it you probably struggle with basic motor functions and the concept of breathing and blinking at the same time

but…IM FUKING INVINCIBLE SON!:wgrin:

I need to play some guys here and get some tips and tricks cause my Q is trash

Way to make yourself seem better than you really are dude. Trash isn’t even the right word. All you are is juggle practice for everyone else since Q is so fun to juggle.

Says the scrub who cant even beat me.

2df saves replays scrub, keep at it

Ok you win…

Any ways are there any Q’s on 2df here?

Back when I had internet at my place, I played Q on 2df(also Urien). It was hard to find some matches though because I’m in Japan, and not too many Japanese players are on 2df(a few, but not that many) so it’s hard to play without lag. Even if that lag was very miniscule, it screwed up my arcade timing so bad for a while that I decided never to play on it again.

I play on 2df cause I have to no way of going to big name arcades like Denjin or AI…

Is it just me or is Remy one of the most annoying matches for Q? :\

He’s not all that bad. He’s like an easier version of Twelve in that all he can do is run, poke and throw at you, only he can’t fly so he doesn’t have an air game to annoy you with. His kara-throw reaches almost as far as Q’s though, so that’s something you should watch out for. I think you can punish LoVs with Super but I forget just how fast he recovers after throwing one out, so you might wanna test that yourself.

I guess the frustrating thing about playing against Remy is his pokes shine pretty well in this matchup, and his corner game is good since he can start kara-throw mixups or lock you down with LoVs. It’s hard to play aggressively against Remy since his close pokes are generally better; this is another one of those low-tier matchups where it’ll probably take like 80 seconds for either player to win, haha.

Stupid Remy’s zoning is very good against Q :bluu:

So I bought the Q kuroda dvd, not one remy match  still overall pretty good. The guy is very patient and uses all of Q’s pokes, all he really needs is close st.mk xx SA1

Is Q worth attempting to learn at the Beginner-Intermediate skill level? After learning his normals what would you guys say is an important next step goal that I should work towards? Setups to land C&DB?

I’m going through the OP right now but I just want some things to work on while I try and get some of this stuff down mentally. I noticed theres a bunch of match vids too. Any recommendations that you guys know of that have some Q basics?

Q is dope but I’m kind of a noob…

If you’re a tempermental person, then learning Q as a newbie is probably not a good thing to do. The thing about him is that he’s actually a very simple character in terms of combos and strategies(to oversimplify: poke, zone, run, taunt, get that lucky C&DB juggle), but 90% of the cast are better than him in some form. Experience is everything with him.

Watching vids is good(Kuroda, TM, Ultradavid, even Pyrolee has a sickass Q haha), but if you’re having trouble against a certain character then check out vids of Q vs “character that’s giving you trouble”. Oh yeah, I’d suggest not copying general playstyles of players(a newbie will go nowhere trying to copy Kuroda) but rather, see what they do in certain situations that you might be struggling with.

P.S.- C&DB is good in certain situations, but not all. Some characters you either won’t be able to use against at all or you won’t need to. It’s best to bust it out occasionally just to show them that you have it.

So its really just patient gameplay? Like a counter attacker it sounds like.

Good to know C&DB isn’t everything. It sounds like I just have to wait for opportunity’s and seize them.
