I’m not saying that all the people asking for Karin are just mindless sheep, there are bound to be people who actually like the character (such as you), hell, as hypocritical as it may sound, I’d use Karin, she’d probably be pretty good in this game considering how her tools worked in A3, my problem with Karin being added would be that she’d become Fei Long’s Ken, her tools wouldn’t be that original or different to actually warrant adding her as someone original.

A doll would be very similar to Cammy, yes (even though Decapre in particular could end up being pretty interesting by adding some of Vega’s moves and specials), but Karin would be pretty similar too, so I don’t get how people would drop the game if Decapre gets added because she’d be too similar to Cammy, but would buy the game in a heartbeat if Karin gets added considering that she doesn’t add that much into the game either.

I believe she would add a ton to the game and explained why I think so already. We just have a difference of opinion.

Besides gameplay there are a few other reasons people would be more upset with Decapre than Karin.

  1. People already think Capcom is lazy, so using Cammy’s model with a mask visually would reinforce such an opinion far more than a brand new character model created for SF4.

  2. Karin has a big fanbase which we have already discussed, Decapre doesn’t.

  3. Karin would not recycle any moves. Decapre is guaranteed to have a bunch of exact copies of Cammy’s moves.

  4. Karin would be a returning character not this brand new 5th character that has been hyped for months by Capcom. Therefore if Karin was added, it would be in addition to the 5th. If Decapre is added, there would be tremendous disappointment that all the hype was for naught.

  5. Juni and Juli weren’t exactly popular in A3.

  6. Cammy may be the 3rd most disliked character in the game (not by me I support her) after Seth (#1) and Akuma (#2).

What was Karin all about in Alpha, anyway? I recall her having a Rekka-series and various counters. That, and one of the most gdlk st.hp’s I have ever seen in a fighting game.

Let’s see here. I’ve been reading your arguments and I’m trying to figure out how Karin wouldn’t add anything substantial to the table. Yes. She might play similar to Fei in terms of footsies into complete rushdown, but she does so in a more in-depth manner. She’s a more advanced Fei if anything. A more expanded Fei. Including her would most likely render Fei obsolete. She has many rekka options to use that greatly adds to her diversity from Fei. Because of these enders, she definitely plays the mindgame portion of rekkas much better than Fei. If she were put into Ultra, her hop kicks ender would most likely put the opponent in a juggle state for more combos/damage. It’s also used to eat many low attacks. Her elbows are used to bait out any attacks from the opponent trying to get free and to add confusion. Her palm is for outprioritizing attacks, which helps her start her offense. Her slide is for mixups since it’s a low. When landed, it gives her vortex-like options and control over the whole match if everything goes as planned. You can continue your offense from here and can bait out reversals easily after your recovery. That’s completely useful since reversals are much more common in SF4 than A3. Her overhead is for mixups as well but you can’t abuse it like you could with Fei’s chicken wing. It’s a “use sparingly” type of move. High /low counters are for shutting down any type of offense from the opponent so you can continue yours and hopefully keep them in the corner. Why am I listing all of these points that you, a Karin main, should know? I’m basically reiterating my earlier statements. Maybe if I write it out, you’ll understand that Karin would add a GREAT amount of depth to the game with her countless options rather than just a little because of how “similar” she is to Fei. Capcom probably didn’t add Karin in because they feared that she would overshadow Fei. Of course that’s a bit of a stretch for the reason of her absence, but it can easily be a possibility and has truth to it. She does everything Fei does, but better and covers certain areas that Fei couldn’t thanks to the counters and the uses of her rekka enders. All in all, Karin’s inclusion would not be a waste. At all.
P.S - Just another note to add. Based on what your saying, which is that Karin wouldn’t add anything significant because she’s so similar to Fei, is this also true for Yang? I mean, he plays more similarly to Fei than Karin, yet he’s in. I would consider Yang to be Fei’s Ken than Karin. Same could be asked for Abel, Rolento, and Poison.

Stop posting with your gut and think, who adds more to the game, another character whose offense is pretty much based on normals buffered into rekkas or a character that could possibly play 2 playstyles proficiently and add a completely new gameplan to the game? You even said in your post that Yang already plays similarly to Fei in the buffer rekkas department. Abel, Rolento and Poison don’t play the “normals buffered into rekkas” neutral game as Fei, Yang and Karin do, which is my point, it’s not just adding another character which happens to have rekkas, it’s adding another character that uses rekkas just as 2 other characters in the game already do, I know she has different followups, I know she has several options in her rekkas (which would make them more akin to Abel’s, but you know, Karin’s other followups are actually good), but how different would her gameplan be from Fei’s and Yang’s? and how different would a hybrid between two characters be from both Cammy and Vega? (take into account that Cammy and Vega themselves are vastly different, so even the mere idea of a hybrid character would be pretty interesting right from the gate).

1.- I don’t know why people didn’t stop and think that Capcom may not be doing every single thing they have done in the past 2 years just to piss off fans after it was released that they have no money in the bank. Also, no money in the bank makes it more likely for them to reuse assets…so Decapre is even more viable.

2.- Karin has several people who like the character, but do you really think all the people clamoring for her in the forums played A3? or that they read the comics?

3.- And Vega’s too, Vega and Cammy are different as fuck, I don’t know how an hybrid of those two doesn’t sound interesting.

4.- Karin has been in a fighting game before, so she’s already out of contention (and has been for months but people keep pushing for her for some reason). I don’t understand what’s so dissapointing about Decapre.

5.- A3 itself isn’t exactly popular. Karin was played, yes, but if you search for replays you’ll find a ton of Akumas, Sims, Sodoms and Zangiefs.

6.- Because she’s pretty crazy right now, people also hated Yun, Yang and Fei, and Honda and Guile before them. She’s top tier, therefore she’s hated.
