what Eternal said in this thread makes sense to me, and I find what ShinAkuma was talking about in one of those other threads is interesting too with the hitboxes not being that good. if I see someone mashing crouch tech or jabs and shorts as I approach in old SF, I’m immediately gonna hit a reasonably fast normal with a good hitbox right in front of me - I’m thinking CVS2 Sakura St RH or 3s Chun back fierce. eat a couple of those and they’ll cut the habit, you don’t even have to get into the more technical and difficult punishes like buffering low parry or whatever.
really I think what we’re all talking about is that a lot of factors in SF4 require the game to take place at a fairly close range and the risk-reward between offense and defense is out of whack once you’re there. slow walk speed, large tech window, great reversals, FADC, being able to combo off crouch tech, hitboxes lacking, no blockstun, these all combine into making a game where what would’ve been really bad defense in old SF requires too much respect in SF4.
but start changing all of these and you’re playing a completely different game. I’d like to change as few things as possible, so SF4 can remain mostly SF4 and just open up a bit to allow for a better and interesting midrange game. that’s why I only suggest buffing walk speed and making the throw tech window smaller.
EDIT: No it doesn’t. The reason people are bringing older SF/Capcom games up because these games are the ones that have thrived on the competitive circuit. Their tournament appearances weren’t just 1 year deals, no they were in the top tournaments for years on end. The other thing is… off course people will bring these games up because this is a Street Fighter game we’re talking about.
if it looks like a duck, acts like a duck, sounds like a duck…
saying throws are retarded while having based your opinion on what prior competitive games? you made a comment, I acknowledged it, and you got all budokai and dimps on everyone. of course you’re a novice, don’t pool yourself in with the people who actually understand the game. you can’t distance yourself from sfiv with a statement like, “I only play it cuz it’s dimps” one minute, then expect people to respect your opinion as someone who knows the game the next. it doesn’t work that way. the easiest tell as to how I know you’re a novice is how you hate on things without the knowledge to back it up. you regurgitate what you read about throws, but don’t have the experience to actually contribute anything more than “throws are retarded”, after which you state the obvious, “they should only be used for when people block too much”. NO. FREAKING. DUH.
Anyway, good luck getting better. I’ll listen for the guy screaming “kayo ken attack level 20!” at evo and say hi.
Of course I don’t expect forum monsters to accept my challenge, but I don’t like to get called out on my skills by random keyboard warriors on the internet. If you’re gonna talk shit bring it on fag.
aw, see now I feel bad that you got all worked up and went there. my bad. it’s just that…well, look at the threads you started…
as for online, we all know online warriors exist in forums and online lobbies, right ;)? “meet me on psn, bro!”…uh, no. I have arcades I can go to.
and reread my threads, I questioned your knowledge and well of experience you were drawing upon, not your skill…although you are a self proclaimed masher who cant avoid air throws, so I don’t know what to tell you.
in the end, you got ultra defensive and I checked you. now lets leave the “meet me here to fight” garbage alone, you’re making people uncomfortable.
You’re clearly trying to start shit with me with your DBZ garbage, i’m talking about the gameplay aspect and you bring up random shit like kaemhaeha kaioken attack, don’t pretend like you aren’t trying to start shit.
Are you really out there watching everything Killer Jigglypuff does all the time to know he doesn’t go to tournaments? And even if he doesn’t what does proving you are good at playing a game have to do with understanding the mechanics/design/way all of the pieces fit together?
Some of the stupidest requests for balance changes in USF4 came from top tournament players who are great players but don’t understand the way the game itself works or how to balance it.
How does the fucker TheRetroKid know that i’m a self proclaimed masher? Cuz he reads some of my posts, I read some his posts and he said he had no offline scene.
I live the bay area, have access to two golflands and used to hit up southtown before it shut down (rip).
and you admitted it yourself that you mashed, so I hope you aren’t going to double back on that statement.
look, this thread is being derailed, partly because have anger issues and partly because I prodded you. if you’ve got something to say, PM me, and leave these guys to the discussion.
Daigo mashes Shoryuken without a second thought, does that mean that Daigo is just a typical masher? So I mash occasionally, what does that say? Nothing, mashing is part of the game whether you like it or not.
I’m curious what SF4 players think of buffing walk speed across the board for the purposes of making the midrange game better.
good idea?
bad idea because it wouldn’t work well with the mechanics?
bad idea because it would work but it would change the nature of the game, and you like it just fine how it is?
That would be one thing to get me and a few other Freedemonia Norcal peeps to play. Walking in that game, even with Akuma feels bad. Better walkspeeds and dashing would be so godlike.
