I’m still under the impression that AE Yun was more bullshit/braindead than Vanilla Sagat. I just can’t wait to get my Vanilla Ryu back. Hopefully the edition select becomes adopted by tournaments in about a year or so.
And 2v2 ended up being done for EVO so…yeah, wouldn’t rule it out completely.
I’d say that the best way to do it is, assume USF4 is in EVO next year (I mean, come on, seems likely). Do just normal USF4 this year, and then gauge for Edition Select next year.
My point is, if it’s not the tournament standard mode, then it will only be a mode that you dick around with. People are making it sound like Edition Select IS Ultra SF4.
The tournament standard mode is whatever the community decides it will be. While I’m sure Standard USF4 is the likely choice, it’s not a guarantee. Especially when the top players are likely KILLING for a chance to get their favorite variant of their characters back.
Anyone remember Vanilla Akuma RH loops? Zangiefs 1200 health and full body lariat hitbox? Chun LI’s S.RH? Bison RH? Vanilla rufus J.Hk into ex Snake strike for 330
I guess this means Edition select wont be the official tournament, also Jebailey tweeted he’s planning to use it for FighterMania, that hints he will use it for a side thing as well.
Kinda sad, it would have been entertaining, but its just aint happening.
It’s not surprising. Like I said, while it wasn’t out of the question I did figure that standard USF4 would be the choice of TOs.
Plus you know I doubt Capcom would’ve put that much work into all the rebalancing if everyone was just going to choose all the older versions anyway. Cammy would’ve been especially hilarious. “Oh, we toned down Cammy a bit but she’s still the same ole. But, you can always still play her AE 2012 version ANYWAY! But I’m sure some of you will certainly want to play the USF4 version with all nerfs and no new tricks…”
