Ultra srk tech talk awards (2014)

Disclosure: Paradise has sent me parts at no charge for R&D on my own projects and Paradise also sells some of my products. I’ve worked side by side with PAS at EVO and also been paid for services rendered to PAS. I’ve also promoted products made by Jasen Hicks and his company at a booth and convention. I’ve also been sent a product for R&D collaboration by Jasen Hicks. Just being as transparent as possible here on out.

2014 Arcade Stick(Non-Custom) of the Year
I kind of like MadCatz’ TE2. It has a great shell design and the inside is tidy and easy on the eyes. The hatch also works fairly well. On the other hand, I hate the plexi panel and the PCB, at least on the TE2, is not easy to work with. Still, over all it’s probably one of the first MadCatz sticks I really like for the most part, at least in part because it’s a great step forward to creating easy to mod and most importantly, easily organized sticks.

2014 Arcade Stick Mod of the Year
Haven’t seen too much creativity for this, at least not yet.

2014 Tech Talk Company of the Year
I really have to go with Jasen’s Customs on this. He’s been pumping out a lot of high quality products and puts his entire heart and soul into the work he does. He stands by quality and isn’t afraid to price his stuff higher, knowing the money is worth it. He’s like the Tesla car company of building cool arcade shit.

2014 Custom Arcade Stick of the Year
Hmm, Predator stick. I do agree with @FrankCastleAZ that there should be a catagory just for B15 sticks, it’s really not fair at this point lol.

2014 Custom Arcade Stick Maker of the Year
Jasen Hicks. Yes, he does customs. Jasen’s Customs. Zing!

2014 Arcade Stick Modder of the Year
???

2014 Tech Talk Member of the Year
@SusanInParadise. You might not know it, but she does a lot of work for you guys and is pretty much unknown while still being a part of the community.

2014 Tech Talk Accessory of the Year (PCBs, Parts, Bags, etc.)
Was hoping to have my own universal gate here or Paradise’s Magenta, but neither so :frowning:

2014 Tech Talk Rookie of the Year
@deserada, easily. For a second runner, I’d like to give a shout out to @Cagan, for while I gave him a ton of shit when he first joined, he stuck around and started doing things on his own. I definitely respect someone like that and have to give credit where it’s due. Oh, and a little transparency, Cagan has sent me some stuff that he didn’t need and thought I’d find useful. Des has done nothing for me yet, other than share the same first name, lol. Screw you, Des! Why don’t I get any shiny toys from you?

TE2 is ineligible since it came out last year.

I’ve been broke as hell throughout 2014, so haven’t been able to get as involved as I’d hoped, despite this, and my retreat to the GD forums, TT is still the center of the SRK forums for me.
Even if I haven’t wrote much, I’ve had a great time lurking. Really loved Moonchilde’s recent thread about visiting Armi and PAS, seeing Undamned and Phreak putting in the effort to try stuff that the rest of us lack the patience and smarts to do, staggering at the wealth of old-school and supergun knowledge from the likes of Undamned, Jasen and FreedomGundam and seeing some crazy unique sticks from members old and new.

2014 Tech Talk Company of the Year
Haven’t bought from any of the TT affiliated parts companies this year. However, if it counts, I’ve had 3 fightstick artwork commissions from @d3v‌ this year that have all been stellar. On top of that, he’s been banging out some great stick art just for the hell of it, which really proves his love for making fighsticks look good (even 8-buttoned ones).

2014 Custom Arcade Stick of the Year
Didn’t even stop for a second to think about this one. @bazdc2 with the clear Rose stick was something else. Nothing fancy, no gimmicks - just pure, clean work. Can really see the care that went into it.

2014 Custom Arcade Stick Maker of the Year
@Epi‌ Nobody quite has his…erm…vision? Really refreshing to witness the work of someone who literally sees a fightstick in EVERYTHING.

NOTE: Seconding the call to rename it the B15 award. Endless originality and the most professional looking sticks out there.

2014 Arcade Stick Modder of the Year
@Gummo for his hard work in XBOne padhack exploration.

2014 Tech Talk Member of the Year
@PresidentCamacho‌ never a question left unanswered. He and @Darksakul‌ (close second) have kicked the ass out of the Q&A threads this year with solid advice, patience and guidance. Great work from both of them.

2014 Tech Talk Accessory of the Year
@Phreakazoid‌ with the Crossbone.

2014 Tech Talk Rookie of the Year
@deserada‌ by a mile. Since he joined the forum, I don’t think there’s a single TT-related activity that he hasn’t taken part in, shown interest in or offered valuable advice towards. He’s really delved into these forums head-first. Also, has some really smart projects in the pipeline that I’m looking forward to seeing in the new year.

o… k…

Haha I said “if it counts”!

Putting it there so I can DQ myself if I somehow win.

Yeah, but I think Clay should get the award. The impact his has on the FGC at large is way more significant.

I’ll put up some proper votes soon

@"Pnoy Pryde"‌ for bringing stuff that he is working on to life and giving back to the community.

You’re going to have to be more specific than this.

2014 Custom Arcade Stick Maker of the Year - Jasen’s Customs - Panzer Fight Stick

New versions of sticks are allowed to be voted on? I thought we could only vote on new designs (industrial) and not aesthetic? Isn’t that how it went with previous years?

So in other words, the TE2 would not be allowed to be voted/nominated on UNLESS there were some changes/improvements to the design (other than aesthetic).

Like, I wouldn’t nominate the TE2. The TE2 won in 2013 and it was created/released in 2013. I would feel it is unfair for a 2014 version of the same product (although there are some slight changes) to be nominated/win the same category. Just my two cents.

In the same vein, this would also disqualify the Hori HRAP V4 PS3/PS4 stick and the Razer Atrox for Xbox One.

Your thoughts, everyone?

I think it sounds fair. Sometimes I forget what came out when.

Who voted for me? Lol

Edit: thanks @speedsterharry‌ !!

Edited my votes as follows:
Mod- AMP custom SE
Non-Custom- XBONE HRAP

Hmm, never thought about that, regarding the V4.

I think the key to remember is if it’s a big enough upgrade from the regular HRAP.V.

The V4/V is a new stick in general for 2014 though, right?

Based on what I mentioned earlier, I honestly think it should not be counted in the voting.

The Xbox One HRAP V, yes that is brand new. New design through and through. I actually have one here, it’s pretty cool (in thought), but there are comfort issues with it (personally, not in general). It’s very different in feel/use from the prior Hori sticks tho.
