what about giving cr LP +1 hitstun, so making +7 in total ? that will alow Abel to link cr lp-cr mp xx cod, but cr lp-cr mp would be a 1 frame link, so very difficult. Would this buff be too much ? Considering the difficulty, I think it would be an ok buff - strong, but not something scrubs can abuse. Plus, if you use more than 1 cr lp (ex - cr lp- cr lp- cr mp etc), and this would be most probable, than the combo would scale pretty strong.
Hmm, I kinda like this buff :). What do you guys think ?
@ Splurgendii - why do you think recovery reduction would be better for low cod ? I think the problem with that move is that is very slow, so quite obvious. Reducing recovery would make it less punnishable = more brain dead.
I didn’t mean to infer that I wanted its negative frame disadvantage to be reduced, rather I would like it’s recovery and block stun reduced so it would remain -5 on block while at the same time having reduced animation frames would leave it less vulnerable to neutral jump punishes.
But nobody should take this seriously, it’s simply something I conjured up at the moment.
this. although i am getting pretty consistent on crouching fierce as a AA it kinda trades alot. I’m loving any AA improvements since i really think thats his major flaw.
Also i didn’t realise that step kick st.hp was a 1frame link?
Yes it’s a 1 frame link. The trick is to build step kick in as a frame trap, for example after a s.lk or cr.lp, landing step kick as a counterhit, it’s a 4 frame link. And either way, it’s one of the easier 1 frame links, at least for me, the rhythm is easy, it matches the recovery animation. And it doesnt matter if you dont hit the link, very often u still hit the close hp, because the opponent is anticipating a TT after step kick or is just mashing buttons or jumps, then u hit close hp as counterhit and have the full combo.
yeah, i just picked up abel and im getting it really really consistently, even without counterhits, i just didn’t realise it was 1 frame… i guess the plinking really does help alot in this situation. thanks.
i played this game for a year straight without using step kick bnb…granted i didn’t know about srk, eventhubs, fgc, etc for the first 3 /4 of the year…but still, a whole year where all i would do after step kick was TT or cr jabs~~~
People need to stop thinking of Abel as just the step kick… Sure, it IS an important thing for whiff/full punishes and it can be a scary footsie/pressure tool, but you can get real far with Abel by just having a solid ground game, decent footsies/anti-airing and being able to read people. When you watch pro Abels, how often do you see them step kicking all the time? Instead of mastering the link (or at least, don’t make that top priority), work on defence/patience and footsies. Not directed at anyone specifically but yeah…
this man preaches the gospel lol. Pretty much every time i lose(…when i do lose mUhahahshaha) is usually because i get too lazy and do too many step kicks~~~
there was a period where I relearned the game and stopped doing step kicks and roll mixups entirely just to get better fundamentals and practiced step kick combos in training mode for like 10-15 min after i was done playing. Although i lost A LOT in this period; my abel got sooooo much better.
regardless my only point was to not get discouraged from not being able to use step kicks because I did same thing…and i’m the baest(i kid, but i want this ego boost lol)
Not saying to ignore it, but there are other facets. It doesn’t matter if you land 100% of step kick combos if your ground game and fundamentals are ass, whereas vice versa you can still do some work.
I do alright without step kick - I can beat or at least compete with some players up to 3000pp, but the next level is to use step kick as punish. I can use it as a footsie, just not link it into an Ultra or FS very well. It’s a shame as I really like the character, and love his mix-up game. I’ll come back to him, no doubt, but I think I’m going to be joining the shoto brigade for now.
PP is not a solid indicator of player skill. There’s 3000+ pp players that have the scrubbiest online tactics and get by with hail mary ultras and wakeup DPs every time.
Why would you settle for just doing alright? Get in training mode and learn how to plink first! Once you do that reliably, learn stepkick, link st.fp. Once you are good with that, do the full bnb. Once you can do the full combo, turn counter-hit on and confirm with st.mp instead of st.fp if you see them crouching. Just do it over and over and over again until you commit it to muscle memory.
Seriously, when you start getting a consistent step kick link and it starts becoming second nature, you’ll appreciate it way more. When I play against people offline, I routinely hear comments like “that step kick is so much bullshit, man!”
Using step kick effectively gives abel so many more opportunities to do his juicy damage, and I think you shouldn’t give up.
The way I see it, landing a stepkick on hit or block is a tell for the other person. A tell that says “hey i’m gonna get in now and fuck your shit up. what are you going to do about it?” and the opponent has to respond with “hey man i don’t want any of that nonsense” and jump, backdash, reversal, etc. It’s up to you to get in their head and stop them from getting away.
Top post ailerus! I think you might have inspired me
@BraxtonIV - I can’t use it consistently and I struggle to implement it into matches. Anytime I try, I get blown up because i’m thinking too much. I think it goes back to when I started playing AE. I was using a PS3 controller for the first 3 months, so totally abandoned the idea of using step kick to go into FS or Ultra.
