Ultra SFIV - Change wishlist for Abel?

Only time I use the second low is too get cute and go into super lol, anything that makes me want to use it more will be welcome, I agree fadc into elbow is bit too strong though.

too strong? but it is actually possible !!!

No no, we meant that if capcom were to crank up the speed of 2nd low while keeping it’s fadc frame advantage

I think step kick should force stand on hit. That way your only combo your rewarded with will not whiff on those certain characters anymore.

Honestly even though everyone wants this change it would be too powerful, heck I initially wanted this change. The only way this would be fair is if you completely nerf the damage that is done from the combo, and honestly abels greatest threat is his damage output so im fine the way things are.

I really do not see how it would be too powerful to have a guaranteed step kick, st hp. It would certainly make some of his good matches even more in his favor (Vega springs to mind). Ryu would get pretty shafted as well if your getting 350+ with 2 bars on every whiffed cr mk/sweep as would some of the other shotos. But this is something we should have and buffing the other characters should resolve the majority of balance issues that may arise.

I don’t think they should make step kick force stand though what they should do is make st hp only hit once, be punishable and have a lower hitbox whilst retaining its cl AA properties. The only issue I see is that it would make st mp a bit useless but i could live with that.

Anyone thinking this would be too powerful needs to have a look at the Fei matchup…

Hell. Ken gets faster walkspeed and his s.lp into sweep link back, with this background, I dont think a step kick buff is overpowered. :stuck_out_tongue:

Meh…

Ya, It’d be nice to get that link on every croucher but Splurg kinda has a point.
Step Kick -> command grab, counterhit combos go out the window if this buff goes through. It’s good for abel but it might make his game plan really linear

whatever
I’m tired of this topic

You guys got ANY other ideas for changes to Abel.

Was thinking about a couple of the suggestions in this thread and I’m not understanding something about Abel’s frame data.

Anybody who understands how frame data works is welcome to help me plz
How big of a frame window is there for the opponent between blocking Abel’s Cod and the 2nd low? I know it’s big but I can’t figure it out from the frame data chart :frowning:

I didn’t look into this until you asked and I’m very glad I did as now I’m having second thoughts about the change suggested.

Here’s how I figured it out

Cod on block cancelled into 2nd Mid is Not a true block string.
It will counter hit zangief and T.hawk out of their SPDs
Seeing as how their SPDs come out in two frames, the only way for cod into 2nd mid to do that yet not be a block string is for the frame gap to be exactly ONE frame.

From the frame data chart we can see that 2nd mid comes out in 15 frames
If the gap between the first cod and the 2nd is one frame and the 2nd mid comes out in 15 it means that the first COD imposes 14 frames of block stun.

The frame data chart has 2nd low come out in 22 frames
If you cancel the first cod into 2nd low
14 frames of block stun, 22 start up
22-14= 8

The frame window is 8 frames

*on that note

IF the 2nd low were to be reduced down to 16 frame start up as suggested by some players it would mean the frame window would go down from 8 to 2, it would be impossible to jump out of it or interrupt it with a throw. I no longer support this idea.

Position

Rebuttles

Justification
But this is something we should have and buffing the other characters should resolve the majority of balance issues that may arise.

You make a point, give legit problems against your position and then justify it by saying it’s something that ought to be the case despite the probable repercussions and further state that other changes made to other characters MIGHT balance everything out. (“hopefully” would have been a better word).

Not very convincing at all, at least for me.
You say that a 350+ with 2 bars on every whiffed cr mk/sweep is something that Abel SHOULD have, why is that?

More

What’s the practical difference exactly between a step kick that forces stand up and a close fierce that hits crouchers in regards to Abel’s combo ability?

Step kick -> Fierce works on Fei Long when he crouches

Does anyone else feel like our bad match ups are going to get worse in the next game?

-Cammy getting her normal cannon strike height restriction lowerd
-chin li getting better damage output
-gief knocking down on ex green hand
-i know ken is not considered a bad match up but he will be able to knock down so easily and his vortex is just as strong as the other characters
-also Yang getting so buffs

I’m not saying some of these characters don’t desrve the buffs (Excpet that cammy buff is a little strange) but I just wanna know what there gonna do to Abel to balance this out.

We need to be more like the makoto players I heard those guys cried so much that they’re getting one of the best chatacters in the game buffed !

Whether you like it or not the mixup is too strong, if they did it i would be the happiest man in the world. But cmon bro, characters that have under 1000 health wouldnt be able to handle such damage. Plus another deadly mixup leading to more damage.

All together remove far roundhouse. Therefore abel can have nice range on his overhead. Another change i really think is necessary is for capcom to fix hondas hurtbox so that stepkick into close standing fierce hits on him.
An extra change that is unnecessary that i would love is to make abel cr strong 5 frame startup reduced from its current 7 frame startup.

Im worried about the chun li matchup, she really doesnt need any buffs. Chun is so solid, and already gives a lot of characters fits. Juri, is going to be even tougher for abels to deal with. But to be honest, nerfing akuma, viper, ibuki, cammy to an extent, and hopefully nerfing brain dead sakura and adon will end up balancing things out for abel.

@Fighter21

Chun li is going to be problem, also akuma and cammy we’re nightmare match ups for abel. I never really got to play and learn the match ups against a good viper or Adon but they both seem tough to deal with. But ibuki wasn’t that big of a problem for me, her vortex is solid second best maybe even as good as akumas but she doesnt have that same ground game he does, no fireball, godlike sweep or Double roundhouse. Ibuki’s buttons on the ground suck so keep her on ground and I feel like its in Abel’s favor

Honda hurtbox and el fuerte hurtbox too.

But The cr strong buff i dont see that happening, If they reduce startup on cr strong then you would be able to combo cr jab into cr strong also if the distance is right you could combo cr strong after overhead and that would be way to op. Stepkick into a high/low mix up that could potentally deal 250+ damage from any option … that’s broken… so lets cross our fingers and hope they give Abel a 5 frame cr strong

I don’t play Abel, but Finish Low is bothering me. Unlike 2nd low, which can actually be comboed into on meaty counterhit and/or potentially catch the opponent off-guard, finish low is completely useless. I’d like two changes to fix this:
1: Make it a grab.
2: Allow a free juggle afterwards.
Makes it slightly easier to land, and makes the reward a lot higher. Not to mention it would look nice.

Got it, thanks Professor Layton

Too early to tell, they haven’t said anything specific about Abel, it’s too early to panic.

Bad Joke

wow…

Reasonable

180 shift

That went from reasonable to dumb in 0 seconds flat
at least you admitted that it was unnecessary.
glad I’m not the only one who can see this~ Paulanthony.

Chun is going to be a problem?
So her ex fireball knocks down… Now she’ll be able to demon flip or empty jump into 720 right?
overreaction.
