Giving Abel his bnb on all crouchers is a mistake
but if you all relentlessly insist on this becoming the case, does anybody have ANY sort of nerfs to go with this change?
He simply doesn’t need it
I believe I’ve went into painstaking explanation as to why I think this way earlier in this thread or at the threads created over at capcom-unity.
Maybe I’ll recreate here later but for now just know that not every Abel agrees to that.
But my thoughts in a nutshell
It would make Abel’s offensive game too linear/boring and broken imo.
Giving Abel an easier way to combo into falling sky on someone for holding up after blocking a step kick…
very strong… unless there’s a significant damage nerf or a nerf to post FS oki, I think it would be a little too powerful.
to bring back what a few of my ideas were from Abel’s week of change suggestions, I thought it would have been nice to reduce the start up of COD 2nd low. I think someone suggestions a reduction from 22f start up to 15 or 16 frames. As long as they reverted its frame advantage on FADC back to +5 rather than what it is now (+9 iirc).
I think it would also be nice if COD 3rd LOW were to receive some kind of change.
Either make it a true command grab
immune to attacks or throws
safe on block
or simply make it come out faster
lots of people had some nice ideas about this, one or two of them at most would be a great change.
I’ve said it before, but making far HP a command normal would give him the easy hit-confirm of cr.lk, cr.lp, cl.hp from any range which would be broken. Abel doesn’t need any hit-confirms that easy into knockdown
That being said, I agree that Abel’s stepkick, cl.hp combo should work on all crouchers. Yeah that’s strong, so what? He already has plenty of weaknesses that a good portion of the cast doesn’t so throw him a bone.
Let’s try again to visualize the practical difference this would make. As Abel is now, In matches where the footsie battle is against a character like Ryu who is going to be crouching a good amount of time, Abel’s standard toolset is the following:
pick away at Ryu’s life with far light kick
whiff punish crouching normals with step kick into standard 50/50 command grab pressure
counter hit step kick combos.
Hypothetical 2014 Abel
Step kick on hit into command grab mix-ups would not only be unnecessary but would be an objectively, inferior option in most scenarios.
The utility of Counter hit step kick would be solely for more damage and would on the whole be unnecessary.
Light kick would still have a presence but it would be completely overshadowed and would practically be irrelevant in many scenarios. Not to mention close medium punch would be made irrelevant as well.
Now, given all of that.
Do you all understand now what I meant by how this would drastically simplify Abel’s offensive? Making his BnB too consistent would without a doubt degenerate Abel’s offense into nothing more than a simple linear step kick flow chart which would make the character much more boring and too powerful.
Makes Abel very very linear and boring while at the same time sky rocketing his damage!
not a very balanced suggestion I think
This write up here is superficial, I’ll write about this later one today when I get the energy to write out more clearly.
This is a bit out of left field, and one of the more extreme suggestions, but how about making step kick an overhead on those crouchers that st. cl.Hp whiffs on?
Edit: just to expand. It seems absurd at first, if you think about it
it allows Abel to continue pressure without a big damaging combo
forces the opponent to chose to risk standing or accept getting hit crouching, thus increases the mind games between opponents
But how would that work? Making step kick work as an overhead to half the cast but not the other half.
I would like to see Abel’s Hk overhead get more range or become a command normal. So we dont accidentally get the wrong move. seeing as how far HK is possibly his worst normal, I dont use it and hate when it comes out if I’m even just a step too far for over head.
Man but why??? I think the low, FADC, ellbow possibility was a very nice change!!! I use it way to rarely, but it is still a very nice idea and option to have. When used sparely it catches a lot of opponents after they block the first COD punch.
