I’ve seen Cody fall into the “cheap” and “spammers” catagory numerous times. Mostly because of his cr.LK and his LK Ruffian. Because, heaven forbid one of the slowest characters in the game has a long reach normal that he can cancel into unsafe moves without hit confirming, or have a special move that can be spaced to be safe on block but has a low margin of error for that spacing. There was a lot of requests that Cody’s LK Ruffian get nerfed to be more unsafe, and a couple of requests for his crLK to be nerfed back to 4F on the Capcom Unity thread.
Makoto’s pretty easy execution wise (part of the reason I picked her up since I suck at links), but I wouldn’t say she’s braindead at all, since you can’t just auto-pilot with her. The only thing I would consider braindead is karakusa > ultra, since that’s almost an easy 50% on most characters.
Characters shouldnt be made good based off of turns. They should be made good, period. And before you say it, nobody ever said Chun needs to be OP. Being good is not the same as being OP.
Every character should be viable in every game theyre in. Thats not very realistic, but if they CAN do it, they ought to. So Chun should be good in every game that shes in.
If some special minor Dan changes are implemented ( less recovery on air lk danku, better hitbox on cr. mk, smaller hurtbox on gadoken, and more damage on U2) he will definitely be good enough to place top 20 in a tournament.
He placed 7th at dreamhack already, he is really not as bad as everyone makes him out to be. (dont get me wrong, he is still fucking awful, but just not as bad as he is made out to be :D)
If someone put enough time into the character he also has the advantage of opponents having 0 matchup experience since you dont see a lot of high level Dan’s mostly anywhere, other than a few people like Infiltration you most certainly wont have people who actually learn the Dan matchup.
Hugo can at least safely build meter with clap to nullify projectiles full screen, then up close to mid range I think he can keep gouken on his toes with meat squasher, clap, lariat and sweep, it will probably end up being in favor of Hugo, now against Sagat, that’s a different story
