This is the most broken logic ever. As if there are only two edges: either a low tier, or in a braindead status and there is no between. As if +5 on jab, iframes on ex.st, or the return of the super version of CH, etc. would make Vega braindead. Just accept he didn’t receive ANY buffs that target his current problems. None of them. Whereas every other char has received buffs , as Combofiend says in those videos, because they “were free on wake-up so gave iframes”, “had hard links so made them easier with one additional frame of hitstun”, etc.
Pretty much this. I think there was literally no excuse to drop a needed buff to help him a bit while others get something else. I felt like these new changes are nice but i could deal without them if I were to given the option to have some extra frames or one defense option.
As for now, with similar style and twist they are pretty much telling the minority that is Vega players to jump into the new doll.
I don’t know why the price is so high to play as the most gracious and elegant character in the street fighter universe.
I would have been disappointed if Capcom had sticked to their initial plan, which was to buff everyone like crazy (except for the well-known top tiers of course).
But look at what is happening right now. Most people are crying in the comments for the change videos and the change list because their characters got at least one nasty nerf.
If you look at the changes, you can clearly see the way this is going: Capcom is making a lot of the “cheap” stuff less safe and/or less abusable (reversal FADC being -5 on block, Makoto being -3 after a blocked Tsurugi, less pushback on Honda EX Headbutt, no more low invincibility on Deejay’s light Sobat (not really cheap, but, hey …), Ken having two more frames of recovery on his sweep, …). There are more things that are punishable (or at least less safe) than ever in this game.
We, however, only got buffs. Probably because we didn’t have this kind of cheap stuff. And some of them are quite nice.
Looking at the big picture, I think Claw will be more competitive than ever. Maybe more thanks to the nerf bat than to his own buffs, but still.
I won’t hold my breath here, but if cls.MK ultimately became +5/+2 with a 5 frames startup … that would be the hottest Christmas I’ve ever seen.
My guess is that Capcom tried to do that, and then realised it basically became a super fs.LK usable at close range, and decided to re-nerf it at the last minute, but still haven’t updated the Japanese arcade change log.
Sadly that sounds about right. Even more so since the western release in around the corner and the other (+4 on hit) change came from the unity site.
Nr. 4 Is quite puzzling though - it reads EX-RCF and “on hit” (compare to Nr. 3 and Nr. 1.3) But why is that listed? This is already in the current Ultra played in the Arcades.
Edit: oh they changed it to the Japanese Changelog on SRK. Great!
I’m just glad they reverted all the nerfs from 2012 until now. I think this is the best version of him, however, he is still free on wake up which I think is what most people have issues with. Perhaps nerfing the vortex game will help deal with it but then I saw that Ibuki video I posted and the damn vortex game is still there.
Sadly DWU hurts Vega’s izuna corner game. Not that it was exactly the best “Vortex”, but it was still nice to bust out against Able players, who btw has ZERO answer for it…besides U1.
One more thing that has always annoyed me was ST’s forward hitbox. I can’t count the times I’ve seen my feet go through a standing opponents face. Also, when it misses it looks stupid as f**k.
That shit is stupid. It should have gone long ago. You can argue that Claw need everything he can have… but that doesn’t change that Izuna Loop is bullshit against some characters, and a good part of those characters already have a bad time against Claw.
Btw, it seems that you have never faced a good Abel. He does have options for it.
I sincerely hope the JP ver is real, I think Vega will be possible top 10 material just based off matchups and how many other characters got the nerf bat.
He got several buffs and although they are mostly mediocre, combined with the system changes it seems he will be quite solid.
Still it’s sad they didn’t do anything about the lousy hitboxes, especially ex.fba’s.
Yeah. I’d trade a lot of things that we got for that.
clMK counter hit is probably going to be +8. So it’ll be easy to counter hit clMK crMK crMP xx EX FBA. The problem is that it won’t hit a few crouching characters mid screen. And in the corner… even less.
But the +2 on block and 5f startup are its biggest selling points. So this new clMK + jiLK crossup + EX RF/Super for damage should give Claw an easier timing scoring that KO.
At the moment the other buffs seems to be minor, but lets see.
We go no nerf aside from “Super gauge consumption timing changed from when Vega reaches the wall to at the time of activation” which is completely understandable since the “Super hit on the way up” buff.
Whelp… it seems that Decapre will need to wait a little bit.
cst.mk also comboes into itelf. Just tried it with Guile to check if the pushback makes far st. mk come out but cst. comes out instead.
As the pushback on far.s.lk is enough for us to make j.hp-cr.mk-far slk.-cr.lp-cr.mp-ex.fba possible right now in ver.2012, so: J.hp-cs.mk-cs.mk-far s.lk-cr.lp-cr.mp-exfba will be possible in Ultra. Though it will require 3 one frame and one 2 frame links.
All aboard the Claw hype train, time to punish the hell out of Fei, Gat, and Honda players. [And play gloriously with these new buffs, too.]
By the way, I kind of wonder if you can hit Honda’s EX headbutt with Vega Cr.hp, or if it won’t reach. I figure 110 if you lack the meter for barcelona off cr.mp would be good. Or just doing cr.hp if you didn’t want to waste the meter for it.
I appreciate that they’re giving Vega tools he didn’t have. A good close standing normal, a crossup, a coner carry without a second of charge time… they’re just not the tools that actually complete the character. Still, between the other good characters getting nerfed, the Ultra systems (RFC DWU) and these buffs, I think Vega will be a solid mid.
