Ultra 2? I might actually stick with Ultra 1

Try it against Rufus, he’ll want to kill himself by the end of the match while you sit there giggling.

Things that I found suck with Ultra 2:

  1. The start up is worse than Ryu’s Ultra1. I’ve been DPed out of Ultra2 when I did it as a reversal… my opponent said “that sucks”
  2. Unless your opponent is right inside the “ball” it will not connect fully. So if you’re ultra is active and they are at medium range they can throw a fireball INTO the ultra to hit you (i believe it trades though)

Other than that I’d say I like it more than Ultra1. Its just been rough trying to brainwash myself to not do f, b, f->KKK after EX legs, i swear every time I do it something bad happens. :frowning:

As a Dhalsim player, I would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to all the Chun-Li players who are picking U2 in the Sim vs. Chun match-up.

:lovin::lovin::woot::clapdos:

Please keep doing so. :chat:

After playing the game for a week, some more thoughts…

I may start using U1 against Gouken. I’ve done a few U2 Gouken matches, and trying to deal with his fireballs gets annoying. I’m thinking about the same for Cody and the rocks. I may also use U1 for Vega, if for no other reason than to take away wall dive feints. Makoto will probably go U2.

Zangief might actually become a U2 match. U1 Gief would probably be U1, but U2 Gief…Gief’s U2 grabs her out of EX SBK, and since jumping is out of the question, Chun is forced to stay on the ground and hope she made the right choice. With U2, if Gief jumped Chun could just activate Kikosho and Gief is boned either way. Or she could try DF+LK and then get the Kikosho bonus damage (I dunno if this gets grabbed by Gief U2 though - probably?)

On a hunch, I picked U1 against a U2 Sakura. In the final round, I was in the corner, and Sak did her ultra. It was nice because I didn’t have to try and guess which fireball she was going to throw - I just activated my ultra and blew through hers (she did horizontal fireball incidentally).

it took a little getting used to U2, mostly the motion, but once i did its a good ultra. It does seem that it does very low damage but with all the damage reductions in super and how easy it is to combo into it makes sense. It is pretty much guaranteed damage. I dont think you can say one ultra is better than the other because both have their pros and cons. It is mostly matchup specific. U1 is great and i loved using it but ive been strictly using U2 since super came out just so that i can see what options open up with this new ultra. There are many instances where i say damn i wish i had Hosenka right now and thats what i wanna see. I want to see for myself when and where to apply each ultra. I feel every chun player should learn to use both ultras to their fullest potential and decide for themselves when to apply each one.

whatever, u2 is WAY better than u1.

mag had it right with the too many ifs with u1 whereas u2 is “when”.

as far as shutting down options, how about shutting down the option of your opponent jumping at you so tat they have to deal with chuns fireball and poking game? thats what u2 does. it funnels people into chuns godlike footsy game, and they cant just play the scrub jump card anymore cause chun has a braindead easy STRONG AA.

in most of the matchups that i play i’m NOT using u2 from short short ex legs… what a waste! i’m using it after a successful crumple into close hk ex legs >u2

or i’m using j.fp x2 >u2 or d/f+lk > u2 or i’m using it raw versus horribly telegraphed jumpins that will land shallow… i will on occasion use it to hit crouchtech/tech as well if my opnent is REALLY just that predictable with blocking jumpins and teching afterwards.

the only time i use u2 from short short ex legs is when the opponent has less than 20% health left after i land the exlegs… cause at that moment i may not get another chance to use it with the opponents life being so low.

also, dash > u2 works against fireballs as well… LEARN IT.

i’ve noticed that my game tends to boil down to scrubby turtle style with have U1, especially against shotos…
i think having U2 is really stretching my ground game, and making me a lot better overall.
i’m still not that good, tho, but it’s helping.

i think i’ll just stick to U2 from now on.

I have to agree with Dime here. I generally use U2 for my Chun.
U2 is more guaranteed damage while U1 is an “if”.

Although I do agree U1 does shut down options.
Chun can deal with projectile pressure very well compared to some other characters.

This girl got two viable ultras. I can see a Chun player going either way vs say Ryu.
U1 shutdowns options while U2 adds extra damage to your options.

Both have their advantages and disadvantages in comparison.

Very interested in what Chun players choose.

If they had fixed U1 so that it actually juggled everyone, it would be more viable. Since they didn’t U2 all the way. (Except vs. Blanka and Honda)

hosenka can also shut down hawks condor dive, but i never went against a hawk player who already knew that, so i dont know if thats the ultra of choice against him in high level play
