In which matchup are you going to use U2 instead of U1?
Here’s my preferences:
U1:
Akuma (divekick beats U2)
Cammy (divekick beats U2)
Dan (shoryuken beats U2)
Gen (cannot punish his fast jumpin with U2)
Ibuki (air knife beats U2)
Juri (divekick beats U2)
Ken (shoryuken beats U2)
Rufus (divekick beats U2)
Ryu (shoryuken beats U2)
Sagat (shoryuken beats U2)
Seth (shoryuken beats U2,cannot punish his fast jumpin with U2)
U2:
Abel (EX roll make U1 unuseful, U2 punishes wheel kicks/rolls)
Blanka (U2 punishes blocked rolls and blocked slide)
Dhalsim (U2 punish blocked yoga flames, Dhalsim can use teleport vs U1)
Hakan (U2 punish blocked slides)
**
BOTH ARE GOOD:**
Balrog (Boxer)
Chun-Li
Cody
E. Honda
Guile
M. Bison (Dictator)
Rose
T. Hawk
Vega
Zangief
**
STILL DON’T KNOW:**
Adon
C. Viper
Dee Jay
Dudley
El Fuerte
Fei Long
Gouken
Guy
Makoto
Sakura
Viper is a no, air BK goes right over. Same with Gouken, Adon and Saks for the same reason. Maybe Makoto too.
Also, idk if saying srk beats it is the best reason to not use u2, simply because if you’re using it as a punisher saying SRK beats it is a moot point.
I also think it’s good against Akuma simply because it stops all demon flips.
I disagree with a lot of your list. I’m with konkrete on this. I don’t really get your reasoning for saying srk > u2. U2 is definitely a lot more useful vs akuma than U1; Akuma can escape a lot of U1 mix ups, and U2 stops some of Akuma’s (important) offensive options.
I think some of your dive kick beats U2 thoughts aren’t right on either, but with Rufus that’s not really the reason I don’t like U2 for the match up.
I was summarizing a concept: against DP chars, the time to punish empty jumpin with U2 is tighter that non-DP chars. Why? Because they can DP it when they’re landing. It’s the same principle that they can block a slide HK if they empty jump.
Of course if you time right, U2 can punish them, but it’s more difficult, so I prefer U1 in that case.
It’s too hard to perform. time is too tight for me, and it change depending on demon flip version. Have you ever done it in real match?
I know that U1 seems not useful, but if you done at the end of a demon flip it works (not vs too close demon flips like the ex version).
It’s also useful when he uses EX air haduken (and you’re waking up). U1 will trade, obliviously in your favour.
Yes, if you time it wrong, it doesn’t work.
The point is, is that srk is not the reason not to use U2, all those characters have moves to change their direction or stay in the air.
Tourney? No. Everywhere else? Hell yes. U2’s invulnerability and long active frames make it perfect to stop demon flips. I can’t say for sure how well it beats all options, but I know from experience it’s damn good against it. You really have to watch out for dive kick from demon flip but when you know that isn’t coming U2 seems free…
