Ultimate mvc3 iron man

That seems to be the entire retarded point of U.Iron Man. It looks like people got pissy that there weren’t enough pure zoning characters in vanilla, so they decided to neuter Tony’s offense and shoehorn him into a zoning role.

Got a chance to play him at PAX this weekend, new Tony makes me cry. No more tri dash and he sinks like a rock now, no more floatiness for him. air H in any direction comes out drastically slower now. Unibeams all come out faster as does proton cannons. Not used to this new one, may drop him because his tri dashing is what I liked best. Need more hands on with the new stark.

As a player who has always struggled with Tony’s execution (fly / unfly combos are not the easiest thing in the world to do) I welcome these new changes! His fly is much faster now allowing for easy fly/unfly combo execution. I landed it on my first try!!! In Vanilla I land it maybe 4 out of 10 times, being able to land them consistently felt awesome and made me super excited for UMVC Tony.

It’s true, his tri-dash is a lot slower now, but so is Magnetos! The designers want to lower the impact of rush down characters and I for one am very thankful for that. Magneto is HARD as fuck to block some times, score one for us little guys!

I wouldn’t be surprised if I played you at some point, I was at the Capcom booth most of the weekend.

Yeah Tony is now a zoning character for sure but now has good fly/unfly combos. But I have to say its not that his tri-dash is slower, its that its non-existent. Its gone. The way the new air dash works pretty much removes that ability. Not only that but his J H is much slower which is a pain for me since I abused the crap out of that thing. I still believe in my good old Iron Man so I need to see how they will do more to balance him.

I know this isn’t really an easy question to answer, but, to those of you who have played UMvC3, does Tony still feel like Tony? With all this talk about no more tri-dash, I’m getting worried that he isn’t the same. Because if he doesn’t feel like tony he’s going in the can crusher.

Also, can you tri-jump with a super jump tri-jump like Magneto Storm or Doom does.

I’m all for new combos but how exactly are you ment to get that hit in the first place?

I probably play Tony different (read: worse) then everyone else, but I tend to play him like Taskmaster. I make them come to me. UniBeam seems faster now so I was spamming that and repulsor/blast when they got close. Then I wait for a mistake and punish. I will miss being able to switch to rush down mode now that I think about it, but I guess that’s what I have Wesker for.

I’m curious, do you all run Tony on point? He’s my 2nd (assist role) so I don’t tend to be SUPER aggressive with him. The safety on the Proton Cannon is going to do wonders for my DHC though.

Yeah I played him on point for a while too. His rushdown is actually surprisingly effective with the right assists, but like quicks said its only because of his tri dash. Its really gonna be like learning a whole new character in umvc.

Does anyone know if he can even combo off of his air throw anymore?

After watching that vid it seems like iron man will be a much better zoner… Possibly one of the beat in the game. His unibeam is so fast! The ability to cancel his c.h is also a huge buff. U can practically force jumps due to the heavy chip c.h. plus unibeam can do. C.h canceled to repulsed blast also seems really good. His up, up, float can b performed in the air almost like a small double jump, so I wonder if this will allow him to extend combos? His tridash is slower, but it might allow for two overheads on the way down… Im kinda excited they changed him up. He was underrated in vanella, but at the same time he was a poor mans mags, so hopefully the changes will make him stand alone more. Also yes I hope he gets his air knee move as well. If so it will eliminate the problem of his slower tridash and improve his rushdown.

He doesn’t have a slower tri-dash… he has no tridash… at least that’s what I understand.

the bolded is my question as well. if he can still superjump tridash then im not worried at all… he’ll be just like mags rushdown which is also superjup based in order to get off highs.

if however he cant superjump tridash> high attack then yeah ill probably drop him… even though i mostly play him defensively anyways, i like characters that at least have the threat of going offensive… ie not like sf4 sim, but like ST sim… LOL

yeah its a shame seeing his Offensive game go down like this, and Im on the fence on dropping him, and ill wait till i actually play him to see what hes like.
Tri-jump’s gone AFAIK, but I think cr.L/M, Fly, Air S is gonna get more mileage, also Boxjumping might still be an option.

That being said, im down for his Beams getting better, especially Repulsor Blast.

Holy shit, I forgot about the knee dive! I hope for a new special move and not just a command normal though. Ideally hoping for both.
