Given that MVC2 was basically glorified Mugen, and at least 1/3 of the roster is unpolished crap anway, I’d say most reasonable folks did not expect MVC3 to have a roster that big. However, given that it’s a 3-character team based fighter, the fact that its roster was only average-sized for a regular fighting game really starts to hurt after a while, and when many popular characters are missing it just plain doesn’t feel like the roster was big enough. I think in the end, Capcom wanted to cut down the development time and increase their profit ratios, and while I’m sure some of their more brain-dead fanboys would applaud them for making as much money as possible, I as a consumer do not feel like they gave MVC3 Vanilla the amount of work that they should have considering I paid over $60 for it.
If they’d given it a more robost suite of training and single-player modes with better netcode, I probably would have forgiven the small roster. If they’d given it a bigger roster, I would not have cared as much about the bare-bones presentation for the single-player and crap netcode. Ultimately though it just was not a very value-packed game. UMVC3 addresses this slightly with the cheaper price, but it annoys me greatly that Capcom didn’t do most of that for Vanilla, and for UMVC3 they are still leaving out many fan-favorite characters and premptively planning to leave out game modes just so they can sell them as DLC, and probably leaving out characters so they can release a third version, all in the name of the mighty dollar with an attitude of “loyal customers be damned.”

Stop making things up, this is a very large and more importantly varied roster even by today’s high expectations. I’m excited for an 8 character starting roster from Skullgirls, another 3 on 3 fighter, due out this year. I’m not sure where you’re getting a 36 character roster as average when that’s actually larger than most fighting game rosters out today. If you want to get technical, there’s thousands of team combinations to choose from.
Take your disgust and conspiracies to Unity, where they actually have Capcom employees at the forums.
Vergil getting in is pretty sweet but I’m pretty content with Dante already. I’m most hype for Doctor Strange since I already had a feeling he was going to eventually make it since a couple of his most powerful enemies are already in the game. Being a sorcerer in a game like this you know Strange’s moves are going to be acid trip as hell to look at and he and Vergil will probably be fighting for flashiest of the new characters. I wont buy this game for a week if Doctor Strange’s moveset isn’t super duper flashy.
I also never got the idea of people getting all pissy about not having as many characters as MVC2. Honestly…how many of those 56 characters did you actually play where you got a bunch of replay value from 2 Wolverines that suck ass, Darkstalkers characters that were useless outside of maybe one and a bunch of other randoms that nobody played just sitting there on the screen? I want Marrow to come back just so she can return in a game where she’ll actually be a threat. Yeah lemme tell you I was totally enthralled about MVC2’s 56 characters after I watched some Evo matches and realized there was no reason to play more than half of them.
Can’t wait for Vergils gameplay. I feel like he will be an amazing character on UMVC but I guess we have to wait and find out. 
Im hype for Vergil,Rocket Raccoon, Nemesis, and Nova and just to see how he will work Wright. But mostly Strider,Firebrand,Hawkeye
Yeah Capcom I’m sure will do a good job making sure he doesn’t play too much like Dante but probably also make sure he has like 24 different special moves and 10 different command normals also and combos that pay tribute to the style combos of DMC3 where you basically watch him do 8 different OTG moves before you finally get supered. The spirit swords will totally be an acid trip to watch if they’re like part of his normal gameplay or an activation super or something like that.
I voted for Vergil and Strange in the MvC3 DLC topic. Maaaaaaaaaan UMvC3 got me hype.

If I want a Capcom employee to read something I’ll post it on Unity. I post stuff on SRK because I want to discuss it with the SRK community.

I really liked that interview, it was really informative. I’ll also now be extremely surprised if any characters are revealed at EVO now. It seemed like Seth was hesitant to say if anything at all would be announced, and even then it would probably just be Ono who announces anything.
I’m responding because you’re posting incorrect information. You’re pretty much fishing for responses at this point when you’re saying 36 characters is an average roster size for a fighting game in any iteration and still going on about how unsatisfied you are with your purchase but not unsatisfied enough to tell someone who cares about your feedback.
You’re coming off as insatiable and foolish. If you don’t like MvC3 or UMvC3, why are you here?
I think we can all agree that one thing Ono will talk about is Darkstalkers again, and how he wants to make the next game so badly.
