I honestly think the Japanese va’s in this game are complete ass. For the most part, the English va’s really surprised me. Ryu actually sounded like he had some personality for once.
Speaking of va’s, I’m currently finding myself irritated with the usual weaboo nonsense in regards to Strider’s english voice. His in game battle cries (‘HAH HEH HYAH’) are absolutely identical to his MVC2 cries, and some of his lines are fucking epic. “Strider Hiryu, ready for battle!” makes me giggle like a kid at Disney Land. Definitely liking manly Strider as much as MVC2’s calm Strider. Only gripe is the odd delivery of one line. I hear “No place for manicures” every time. Could be the new “You’re in for a world of derp”.

I cant stand ryu’s english VA man. Jap one has a lot more emotion to me. “shin…SHO…RYU…KENNNN!” :3 And OMG Ryu’s NEW english VA in UMvC3, he just totally botched his pronounciation! Like wtf he had it down in MvC3 but in the new one he forgot how to say all his moves and they sound really stupid. When he does the Shinkuu Tatsumaki Senpukyakku, imagine an 8 year old sounding that word out syllable by syllable really fast. But a lot of the english VAs are really good, im def not hating on them all. Wesker, Dante, VJoe, Deadpool, Doom, etc. are all great.
Actually, I agree with you. I saw myself putting Strider to jap as soon as I got the game but once I heard those MvC2 style slashes and battle cries, like you say, EXACTLY how they were, I was like “damn, thats legit” Plus, Ghost Rider vs Striders exchange of “You better start to pray…” and “I am the hunter, you are the prey” is literally pretty epic, which is something I dont just throw around.
Because the orbs are still pretty much instant death when they come out, and would have to be nerfed even more if made anything but a level 3.

I haven’t noticed his UMVC3 pronunciation, but I did enjoy his dialogue. “TAKE EM”, “CMON”, “Interesting, YOU FIGHT LIKE A WILD ANIMAL”. Dude, sounded fucking pissed all the time. I liked it.
And yeah, Hiryu’s win quote over Ghost Rider made me let out a fanboyish squeak of excitement. “Dont worry, I’ll punish the guilty…” Then again, I suppose anything you say sounds badass when you’re riding a robo-tiger.

If we’re to get a Red Earth rep, I’d still want it to be Tessa. I’ve only seen gameplay vids though, so I’ve yet to see if she’d truly add to the game’s diversity when it comes to MvC’s gameplay (looks like she might). I feel Hauzer would be an awkward shape to maneuver in this game, despite me liking uniquely-shaped characters like Shuma and the other three heroes seem redundant with what we already have.
But anyway, back to the present. Did anyone catch Hsien-Ko throwing out other new items than the ones I listed, or anything else for her? I can’t watch the replays right now on an iPhone.
Getting a bit of a Samurai Jack vibe from Striders VA, and I’m ok with this.
Most of the English VA in this game is top quality, only a few “wtf” ones (mainly Akuma and Ryu, ick) but the others make up for it.
And what do the demographics of America racial disparity have to do with a japanese game? Putting white people in it is diverse for japan lol.

Anyway guess I’m the only strider player that would prefer a “nerfed” level 1 orbs that are more similar to mvc1/2 and would prefer to deal with that.
I don’t think they’d be closer to mvc2 if made a level one. They’d probably just last much much shorter or something.
