Ultimate Ken (Everything you should know)

ken vs chun li

hit down a lot

press c.MK, do shoryu shoryu

Watch for those double low MKs from Chun Li when the opponent has a Super Art bar. Stay close when you can and throw a lot but don’t be predictable.

no one has anything new to contribute?
well i guess i’ll throw out this little nugget of knowledge. use ken’s st. rh against chun when she’s crouching. try to use it when chun is at max range, apparently she can’t super reversal it unless she’s standing.
take that as flame fodder or even ignore the post altogether, im just tryin to keep this thread alive.

I saw Hirai in some new vid red parry the first hit of the fireball when blocking cr mk xx EX hadou, then did mp srk xx Shippu through the second hit of the fireball to punish, is that new?

no its not, probably just new to video though, ive seen it irl before

Does this work against Denjin or just EX (most likely w/o the red parry)?

Like if someone is doing fireball denjin over your wakeup can you parry the first 2 then go through to punish if they do it within range, or if you block like cr mk xx srk xx denjin and red parry first hit of denjin (would that even be red???)?

john choi is the master of this.

ps. also works with ryu, you can parry, shoryu, shinsho!!! :looney:

5 star went through an ex fireball with a jab shoryu in an FFA ranbat from earlier this year. Made the entire notion fairly obvious.

That Hirai lost that match is nothing short of depressing.

ive seen it like 2 years ago at cf tho, def not an invention of 5star.

forget the guys name, would always do it after a target combo/low foward vs scrubs (always parry first hit, to confirm the ex).

First time I saw it was in a Japanese video with a Ken player named Makoto, I believe he is a CvS2 player, and this video came out in 2003 and I’m sure some other Ken player did it a year or two before I saw it in that video in 2003.

This is nothing new just like anything else that might impress the American eye, they’ve been doing everything in Japan for the last 9 years, we just suck at the game.

I’ve only seen you do it with the kab uppercut but I also saw you lose to zantua so…

Sorry, I wasn’t trying to imply that it was; just saying…

How many kens here try to do jumping ex-tatsu cross-up,dash, shoryu, kara-shoryu ? I would say the damage is worth it but the difficulty is very hard, at least for me it is  .

I have a question what is the best thing to throw out when you dash in? and whats kens best option when he has a knockdown I noticed kd sucks with ken.

If the dash is going to put you in point blank range, then you can use cl. MP, cr. LK, or throw, for example. Cl. MP has good priority, goes into the target combo, and has good frame advantage on block (+1). Cr. LK is useful on hit or block (+2). Throw could surprise them if they’re blocking.

After knockdown, you can use cl. MP or cr. MP as a good meaty, b+MK or UOH as a high, or cr. LK as a low, for example. UOH beats wake up throws.

After SA3, the ambiguous cross up set up is (1) hesitate, (2) walk a step forward or back, and then (3) super jump so you land right next to them as they wake up, and then (4) target combo. Alternatively, you can always just taunt after SA3 for the damage bonus.

In the corner, whiffed cl. LP works well as a fake out to set up a throw. For example, you could do cr. LK, stand up, cl. LP whiff, and then throw. Also, sj. MK is effective after a corner knockdown.

You can also go for a cr. HK from out of throw range, but it can be punished by a reversal super on block (-13 ).

Of course, Ken can also walk in and out of throw range to bait out a wake up throw. And he still needs to watch out for wake up DPs and wake up supers.

(I used the SF Anniversary Collection strategy guide as a reference, but I wouldn’t mind seeing what 5 Star and others have to say on this issue).
