I’m right there with you on every point. I just recently ordered a cable to let me use a PS2 controller on all consoles so I can play more with more people before the real thing, and with a better controller. I wouldn’t feel too bad about losing to Magneto, though. That guy is just impossible with this character. Morridoom, though. You use Rocket Raccoon, so don’t you have a sick THC to catch Morrigan and Doom as they’re both out and committing to their projectiles? That or a YOLO MGS > XFC seems like the best option if you’re forced into that situation as Jill if Morrigan already has momentum.
I also used to have the same issue where stations wouldn’t have Jill, but I made it an issue for them after becoming a regular, and they finally made it a tournament standard to have the two DLC characters on all stations without incident. Keep going and get vocal about it to those in charge because it seriously is complete bullshit that it’s still not standard regulation everywhere.
Its not always an option but there are several things you can do against morri/doom. Morrigan is only really a threat while astral vision is up, if you fail at rushing her down to prevent it you need to go on the defensive until its over since you don’t want her to gain any meter from the super. If I have two meters I use MGS to destroy all the fireballs/missiles and DHC into coon’s trap super. Then I proceed to burrow under the trap until I have to come up again. If I see a break in the fireball chain I come up again so I can H burrow some more. If I don’t then I superjump and float at the top of the screen or use dooms missiles + advancing guard to stay up at superjump height. If you stay at the top of the screen most morrigan players will switch to the angled soulfist or superjump to soul fist you which is to your advantage. Unfloat or rocket skates down to the floor and continue to burrow until the astral vision is over.
This may seem like a lame strategy but astral vision is only powerful if you get hit. If you avoid most of the chip, don’t call assists and don’t take any hits from soul fist the the astral vision is made almost worthless. As soon as morrigan has no meter she is almost free
Stealth edit. I finally got to watch your footage, I thought you handled the morri/doom pretty well and were already basically doing what I suggested :(. Shame that it didn’t turn out better.
Morridoom nonsense is lame enough that nothing else can even look lame while it’s going on. I’m disappointed by how quickly common sense can just fly out the window the second Astral Vision comes out, but not as disappointed by how long that crap lasts on top of being able to build meter while active. Even when it’s not out, I’ve seen players get defensive when really nothing is happening. Being able to clear the screen of fists and missiles with an invincible start-up hyper is a strength that should be taken full advantage of, I think.
If I ever see a morrigan, I immediately switch to Morrigan/Jill/Strider, most (not chrisg) lame morrigans expect a bullet war, and get completely shut down by full rushdown morrigan pressure. Into a jill DHC or TAC, I can kill morrigan in one combo. Then again, if they kill morrigan, i pretty much lose because jill/strider against morrigan is good, but is in morrigan’s favor. Then you consider that im pretty bad anyway, it’s pretty much an auto loss.
If you want some jill/strider anti morrigan stuff, her MGS clears out projectiles, so I call strider and use the super simultaneously, and if they get hit, they get knocked down into immediate pressure, if not, strider assist will keep them in blockstun long enough to go for a quick mixup. Just some thoughts for anybody having trouble against morridoom.

It really is. The best part about MGS is that it completely changes the momentum of the game temporarily.
Does anyone know how to deal a Good X-23? ¿ She is really Fast , I was trying to attack her with only L and M attacks, but she can combo me if they are blocked. D: and She can even get me while I’m Feral crouching (I didn’t know if i can put this question here, I’m New)
First of all, I just wanted to thank you for the amount of work and time that you have devoted to the Jill forums, especially the revamped “DIE ALREADY!!!” thread. I have definitely learned a lot from that page alone and always look forward to any additional material that you post.
Regarding the video that I posted – this was just a casual set with one of my friends and was not a serious match, tournament, or money match. I was basically testing out the elgato capture that I had just purchased. Normally, I use Plasma Beam or Hidden Missiles as an assist with Doom, but I am trying to learn Molecular Shield. I feel like all of Doom’s assists are worth knowing because they can be interchangeable based on your opponent’s team.
Regarding your critique – I agree with mostly everything you have said but disagree with some of it.
TAC’s, unfortunately, are a crucial aspect of this game. All of the top players who actually win tournaments use them in their gameplay. I am not a fan of them and never even practiced the [what seems to be now standard] TAC combos with Doom. I do plan on learning them in the next few weeks.
My Jill gameplay needs a lot of work. My combos are outdated. I’ve been playing her since vanilla and resort to old habits. I am learning the new and improved combos that have been showing up but still need more practice. And practice is hard to come by when you live with a girlfriend who hates when you play video games!.
Dormammu is probably my favorite character in the game, but I love playing Jill. The only problem is what you said – Dark Hole along with his other assists are just not good for Jill, theoretically speaking. But in reality, especially with a character with 850k health, we all know that all it takes is one hit or one throw and Jill is out of the picture. Which, in my case, would leave me with Dormammu and Doom who we all know are a great pair. Look at Paulo’s team, someone who actually wins in tournaments. Super Skrull’s assists are not good for Jill either, but he wins matches. Of course, he is a much better player than I am, but it’s the same concept. I always try to replace Dormammu. I’ve tried Jill/Doom/Strider, Jill/Strange/Doom, I would love to play Jill/Doom/Dog [but i suck with the dog]. Now I’m working on Jill/Frank/Doom.
Thank you for commenting on the video altogether. You were the only one to do so.
Here are some videos from the Break last night. Of course, I did much better in my matches that were not streamed [the story of my life].
I admit that I started playing the match scared because one of my friends plays Hulk/Sentinel and it’s so hard for me with Jill. And the second match was, by far, the biggest choke that I have ever done. I completely thought that I had used my xfactor already. Anyway, I know I should have won this set. http://youtu.be/JmQpeCXvErA
I just played bad in the set. I missed the second camera shot since arrow kick whiffed in one match. I was waiting for strider so I can xfactor and kill him in another match but he ended up behind me. And I shouldn’t have used xfactor on Morrigan in the last match. http://youtu.be/dIGZNxkwxcI
@zer013
That morrigan play hurt my eyes. So bad.
Had no confirms, magic series combos, (seriously she has some fucking combos, my bnb does 700k -_-)
Her pressure fucking sucked
All she could do was throw soul fists, and she didn’t even do that safely.
Next time you play that player remember a few things
If he does a shell kick from superjump height, he won’t be able to do any actions until he reaches the ground or hits you. Make him whiff it, and punish his ass hard.
If he dashes at you, ever, without being in flight mode, punish him. MGS, something. Remember that if he dashes in with fly, he can unfly to make himself safe. He did raw fucking airdashes. Like I said, he was fucking bad. Also, if he tries whiffing a normal to stop the airdash, punish him anyway, as he won’t be able to act unless he uses fly (which you can just punish anyway, because theres no way he’d fly and unfly all in a few frames)
Dont be scared of that ass morrigan. He played semi-rushdown, but sucked at it. Seriously, if you’re gonna do it, do it right. Use her infinite motherfucking blockstrings instead of light light light light light
God that guy made me salty, seriously, its people like him that give morrigan a bad rep.
Man, you got the short end of that stick in the second set, yet you still did great with all things considered. Dropped combos, outdated combos, and extremely unfortunate mistakes aside, I can’t even say anything bad. When Jill got to come in and do her thing, it was beautiful and I honestly should be taking it as an example for myself. What I can say is to practice the combos, especially the flip kick loops off of normals, and to learn the match-ups, maybe space better with Frank.
It’s not entirely Jill-related, but I think Frank is primarily what lost you most of the matches. When you have Arrow Kick behind him, back up your rolls with Arrow Kick; it works really well for some reason. You also have Smegma Beam to help you play keepaway. Frank’s object toss, while very unsafe to use since you can’t cancel it with anything other than X-Factor, is an amazingly powerful and durable projectile once you get past pie, and even more so once you reach the bottle. I saw you poking with M some. Do that more, and know that Frank can confirm off of an almost fully spaced M with his Roundhouse M, then you can roll to close the gap and cancel the roll with his OTG groundbounce and pile on some great damage.
I’m glad you liked my comments, but I’m unfortunately still just a lab rat who barely gets to play. I’m just about getting ready to start going to more tournaments and hopefully become seasoned and competent like you clearly are. You’re totally right about TAC’s, and I really need to start incorporating both them and snapbacks. I just don’t like the gamble, but I’ll have to suck it up and bite the bullet if I want benefits like level 4 Frank or Jill infinites at no cost of meter.
Yeah, that second set just went wrong for me. It wasn’t even Morrigan that beat me. It was more Dante. I’m so free to his standard box jump H. I actually played this guy at Disciple’s house a few weeks ago so I know that I can beat him. Next time I’ll play smarter. After watching the video again and seeing the arrow kick whiff on Morrigan. Does that work even work on Morrigan? It looked like she was too small like when she completely ducked under the plasma beam while she was comboing Jill. That part made me mad lol.
I’m going to another tournament this Saturday and will probably record some sets beforehand as well. I’ll post any matches that are recorded.
