Here is some garbage footage of me playing like crap at the tournament last night. I don’t know if you wanna take tips from me, as you are probably better than me. But from my perspective, you need to be in feral more. Gives you access to more mixups and somersalts. From what I see, wavedash less.

No, you’re completely right. Having not played in so long and being conditioned prior by at least thirty casuals against Zero, I was constantly jumping like a complete moron and not taking advantage of Somersault.<br>

Gotcha, it happens. I’m slowly being conditioned to playing online, while also playing a lot of offline with my brother. I’m having a bit of trouble because im constantly feral whiffing somersalt. only once in a while I go for actual mixups in the beginning. I just fish for somersaults to put them in block stun, then either stagger more somersaults, or feral dash to the other side for a 33/33 (up, up+left, right). Am I doing it wrong? I mean im winning but that might be because of people’s lack of knowledge about jill ><<div><br></div><div>also, jumping around keeps you safe a lot of the time, so its not moronic, it’s just a habit against certain characters that I have too :</div><div>p.s: my next recorded video will be interesting ;)</div>

<font face=“Arial, Verdana” size=“2”><span style=“line-height: normal;”>Yeah the only thing I could say is don’t use fallen prey L so much. Using that OTG ruins opportunities to get mixups off of the hard knockdown because you lack to frame advantage to chase down your opponent with a feral dash mixup. That and of course somersault more, like when that dante kept trying to box dash over to you, you had enough time to feral stance and somersault him but instead you kept trying to dash in from some normals. </span></font><div><font face=“Arial, Verdana” size=“2”><span style=“line-height: normal;”><br></span></font></div><div><font face=“Arial, Verdana” size=“2”><span style=“line-height: normal;”>One thing in general is to always play the match up especially since jill is a defensive rush-down character , like where you played haggar the first game. At least for me playing jill is a lot about knowing what your opponent wants to do based off of his characters and assists. In the first match you tried rushing down haggar however that haggar team had no ranged assist. If you know your opponent has no long range capabilities then you can keep at range with jill and somersault your opponent’s approach. Since haggars main counter to jill is the lariat he looses this advantage when he has to rush in himself. When your jill came back out against haggar that same game you stayed defensive, which in turn netted you the kill. </span></font></div><div><font face=“Arial, Verdana” size=“2”><span style=“line-height: normal;”><br></span></font></div><div><font face=“Arial, Verdana” size=“2”><span style=“line-height: normal;”>All in all I could tell you were rusty but great games I was glad to watch them. I hope you can get more games up</span></font></div>
Fallen Prey is really useless; it destroys your Okizeme game. Try not to use it as Admiral pointed out.<div><br></div><div>Admiral took the rest right out of my mouth. Seemed a lot like rust to me more than anything. </div>
Thanks a lot, everyone, I really needed that positive reinforcement and I’m glad my time away is more obvious than I thought it looked. As always, all of your input is invaluable.<br>I plan on attending the same tournament more regularly, and the only set-up they have with DLC is on the stream until I start making it a problem, so you might get to see more.<br>
It’s so frustrating to go to tournaments that don’t have DLC! I started bringing my own setup whenever I go now. Anyway, I ordered a capture device so I can start recording some of my matches. I’ll probably post some first to 10 sets with some of my friends, but don’t expect high level play on my end. I’m still learning.
I’d bring my own, but it’s 360-only. The universe is against me.<br>Can’t wait to see your chops.<br>

Offline, I can convert off of any hit, not so much online, in fact, i rarely finish combos online :. Also my somersault whiffs are getting weaker online, so I gotta practice those. But I would love any critique :D</font></div>
When I catch an assist but not the player, I like to end it as soon as possible as safely as possible with a quick Somersault > MGS. It still amazes me how much damage that does, particularly to assists. It may even be a good opportunity to blow X-Factor the moment it ends and start mixing up with your newfound speed if you’re in the corner.
It’s hard to critique online matches. You were very clearly missing great confirms and acting goofy like chicken-blocking in the corner because it’s online.
Still, too many point-blank Arrow Kicks and Roundhouses. Use Roundhouse sparingly so the bad guy doesn’t expect that kind of range out of you, then counter them with it when they think they’re safe. I think that’s called a frame trap. I’d reached the point where I would only use Arrow Kick if backed by an assist and was sure it would be blocked so I could go in for mix-ups, though I wanted to phase it out almost entirely because it was just making me slower to stance and getting me killed. Alukard likes to use it as part of his okizeme game, though, and it looks pretty spooky when you use it for movement; both of which I think are pretty cool.
You may also want to stick to one team for a while. Your main team is a lot of work, especially with Jill at the forefront, and you should get a firm handle on it before swapping around. You have to learn to fasten confidence in your assists and overall construct. Otherwise, you’ll likely be missing out on a lot of options you forgot you had.
Thanks a lot! I’ll work on not using roundhouse so much and try using more mixups and not just somersault frame traps. Btw, a frame trap is when u do something that looks punishable, but u follow it up with an invincible move, such as standing heavy, and then wait till they press a button to somersault. Also, I have one main team that I always practice with, but I switch around in matches with different assists to counter certain characters. Thanks a lot for the critique, I needed it badly
Crouching A into 236A is an example of a good frametrap. If they block the crouch A and then unblock or try to pushblock but fail, they’ll eat the 236A. You don’t need to do an invinicible move to frame trap at all.
All you need to do is two moves where the first puts them in blockstun and the second will beat mashing basically. You don’t need invincible moves for it to frametrap.
What do you do against this. I have no idea other than playing a better team that doesn’t include Jill. The Zero matchup is that bad. I feel like I just need to counterpick with Zero.
Like I dropped a lot of confirms (especially the more frustrated I got…), and used suboptimal but easy to confirm combos, and Kerahime/Keranata is a lot better than me, but yeah. I really don’t think Jill has any options. Even YOLO machine gun spray when he throws a fireball doesn’t work because he can reaction Sogenmu to save himself.
I don’t know how my team can fight a team that is literally covering the screen with so much stuff and has so much mobility I can’t get in with any of my characters.
Looking at it now. Are you on xbl? if so we gotta run some sets shio
EDIT: Okay so from what I see is you always wave dash. Stay in feral. If we play, ill definitely run my morrigan team against you to practice that. I’ll do bullet hell even though I normally go full rushdown with morrigan, i can bullet hell well :P. But yeah, if your in feral you have immediate usage of somersault if he tries to go in at all. And As soon as you see missiles come out, call ammy, YOLO machine gun spray, x factor, and if it hits both, kill both, if not, mix zero up, because you have officially gotten in DAT ASS.
Nah, I’m PS3, and don’t really play netplay marvel.
Damn
Also, jsoledout is an expert in that matchup, my jill is too ass to give you any true advice. I’d wait for him to reply
That bolded part happens a lot to me when I play jill lol
I’m not the best player but the zero and magneto match up can be brutal especially with hidden missiles. Perhaps part of the problem is that doom just doesn’t work with jill very well, so you have a doom shell team and jill is just basically tacked on. Which would be fine if you ran a character like Vergil on point, but Jill can’t pick up off hit confirms with plasma beam very well, and molecular shield isn’t that amazing either. It took me a while to realize it but doom is just not that great of a choice to run with jill despite how effective doom can be, even hidden missiles isn’t that great of an assist for jill anyway.
Maybe try a projectile assist that doesn’t cause a soft knockdown like iron man’s unibeam or task master’s arrows, and of course having an assist like vajra works wonders against certain jill matchups. Vajra is amazing because jill always wants the neutral game to be centered on the ground and vajra eliminates some character’s air games.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that you aren’t really running a “Jill” team. Put a lot of thought into who your 2nd character should be, you need a character that provides either good lockdown or projectile assist but also has synergy in the THC area. There are several characters that alow jill to combo off of a THC (which jill has a powerful THC since MGS has invincibility and moves you forward) Also some assists allow you to combo after a random MGS, for example if I call Rocket Raccoon’s spitfire assist and use MGS if the MGS hits the spit fire will combo, if the MGS doesn’t hit spitfire keeps jill safe. Normally THCs are not very useful to most of the cast, but they can do wonders for preventing enemy momentum. A smart mgs call can stop hidden missiles and get zero out of the air, which is exactly what you need.
Only thing I’ve been able to devise against any Zero worth anything is to fish for an opportunity to MGS > XFC and make it count. Zero murders Jill and pees on her corpse.
