I was thinking about picking this stick up because I found it really cheap on a trusted site. If you own the stick, know anything about the–or have heard anything about the stick here are my questions to you; Does it work alright, Does it work on the new slim PS2s, and do you know if I can replace the buttons/(joystick in particular) with HAPPS or Sanwa parts, and most importantly do you know if the wireless adapter can/will burn out any of my controller ports? Any and all responses are appreciated.
There’s been a couple threads on this stick already, including a post w/ pics of the modification I did to mine. Bottom line, the components are junk and will fail. Modding the chassis is a pain in the ass, as well. Replacing buttons is easy enough, but the wiring is rigid, thin metal, and prone to snapping, breaking and coming loose from its solder points. I completely gutted mine, integrating new stick, buttons and Playstation PCB, but even this was an extensive process. Above and beyond hacking a PS PCB, you will also have to grind down the plastic posts to which the stock stick adheres, if you want to put a custom stick in it.
Bottom line: if it’s $5 or less, and you don’t plan on using it more than a month, go for it. Otherwise, there are plenty of other stock choices out there, both moddable and unmoddable.
I found the thread I think you were talking about. I really liked one of the mods posted with the custom sawa stick and buttons. By the way, does anyone know if the 30mm sanwa screw ins fit or would the snap ons be a better choice? Also, what is the best compatable joystick to mod this with?
I bought one a long time ago, only used it a few times to test the wireless function to see if it was useful. It works and it has been used in many mods (the wireless) device, but never seen its body used or buttons/stick.
