Ultimate Fighting Game List

Hey doods, does anyone know of a site online that lists all of the known fighting games in the world? The closest I have come to finding anything like that, is the fighting game wiki article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fighting_games

Personally I like that one the most because it may not be the ultimate in completeness, it at least has some history and character cross references and has a good image library and some sprite rips. It also has reviews, which aren’t bad but not great either.

The screenshot collection, character database, and game database are great, though pay no attention to the reviews, since while the guy has obviously been playing fighting games for a long time, he’s done so from a casual perspective. Things like aesthetics and storyline weigh a lot more heavily than they should in the reviews. Also stuff like this:

You’re simply not a true fan of 2D fighting games if you don’t like Third Strike…

For example: Ryu from Street Fighter will always do the same Hadokens, Shoryukens, and Hurricane kicks on top of his priority moves… but in comparison, a Soul Calibur 2 character has about 20 times the abilities and mix-ups of a Street Fighter character.

Before fighting games started featuring cushy comeback mechanics and instant-combo buttons… there was a time when fighters were “difficult” by default.

When Marvel VS Capcom 2 first came out, it was pretty much “god-like” among all other fighting games (and still is to some)… Later down the road, there were indeed some “cheap” infinite combos and corner traps that were discovered by high level players. Certain teams in MvC2 can easily be considered over-powered, and the top tier characters of the game are quite difficult to beat with less powerful characters… but it can be done if you have the skills.

No doubt MvC2 was, and still is one of the most enjoyable 2D fighting games for casual players and skilled players alike. For high level players, the tournament scene is a little different, as “cheap” (as they say) tactics are used to dominate, and assists can be abused for chip damage, which lead to inescapable traps…

True, MvC2 is “un-balanced” but I think that’s what Capcom intended to do in the first place. The imbalance of the game makes it fun. And don’t forget, low-tier characters can be used effectively and are still very fun to play, especially when you can beat a top tier team.

Also the dude considers Guilty Gear XX (even +R) to be an update to X. I can see where he’s coming from with that statement (up to a point), but still.
