ULTIMATE Balance/Tier talk thread

I just said he wasn’t the best for making a comeback. Even though he may have been good, the gap between him and the characters above him was a pretty big gap, putting him at a disadvantage.

Hmm not entirely his biggest faults IMO were not having a great netural game, not being the best character to DHC in and the fact that he could do shit when a character would get below him. Now his netural game is amazing since Butter gun is faster and abusable and his j.S footdive is like a combination of Trish’s and Wolverine’s divekicks (LOL) which means if you dont respect him while he is above you…you die.

My point is, you always had to respect the foot dives, as you could Dash Cancel them (even the S one at the low height, it was just hard), so all they really did was make it easier, and give him a few new combo routes. Butter gun is a solid buff, but Dooms still has pretty much the same issues.

A good strider is a guessing game.

LOVING HIM. Easiest mix-up on an incoming character that I’ve been using is Caling a Bird+Wall Cling into MH, if that doesn’t hit, cancel into an assist with a M teleport w/ qcf+L. for a great poke/ combo starter.

Work’s great with Beam assists and Doom’s Molecular Rocks.

What I like about Strider is that he’s one of the only characters that you can’t let up for a second until he dies. He can get in there and mix you up with triple overheads/crossups, and he has a good projectile game, which he can use to cover his approach.

Oh yeah, and his assist is great.

Main problem Doom still has is that he still loses to anybody that can hover above his head for long periods of time and shoot shit down on him. Characters like Trish, Morriagan who can convert from absolute lame out and then suddenly fly down past their fireballs with high priority moves and start rushing the shit out of you.

He still doesn’t really have any moves that are great for consistent anti airs outside of sphere flame which you have to XF to really scare or kill anyone with. He can rain down beams and photon shots all day on less mobile characters but anyone who can lame and shoot at the top of the screen and convert it into offense regularly…kind of a sitting duck still in those matches even with XF. He needs an assist to combat those characters still otherwise. j.H buff helps a bit but it’s not totally turning those matches in your favor or nothing since you can only convert into combos at close range still and they can push block the j.H to keep you out.

Ground photon shot covers a lot of range but has almost no durability so if they can shoot projectiles at you and then fly down, that’s not really working either.

Pretty much. Doom is better, but he’s still Doom.

Too bad Foot Dive isn’t a selectable character. But who knows, people keep listing Phoenix and Dark Phoenix as separate characters, I wouldn’t be half surprised to see individual moves occupying a slot on peoples lists.

Sphere flame is underrated as an anti air. It’s pretty safe unless you get grabbed, and if that shit hits a dive kick or anything above you, you can xfactor into another one and kill any character in the game pretty much. Whenever I see someone above me with doom (not at the top of the screen lol)I just throw a sphere flame, and if it hits, whee whee!

It would be real nice if that crap [listing Phoenix as two characters] was an infractable offense.

It’s an anti air sure, but 90% of the time all it will do is waste a meter and put you ac a disadvantage.

To rate Phoenix as one character, she would go into A tier for me now. She’ll bust you up the same if she gets the 5 but the number of Phoenix’s regularly winning tournaments is really going to go down with how garbage regular Phoenix is to snap back situations now and how meter is harder to attain. It’s very likely Phoenix could die before the 5 even without a snap now.

Dark Phoenix is also a lot worse for the 1 vs 3 comeback situations (which Phoenix players found themselves in more often than they’d like due to not being able to use hypers). The reduced duration on XF3 means the potential of having it run out (and the ability to time it out for other players) is much greater.

Ironically, the other Phoenix (Wright) probably has a much higher chance of reaching his god mode and fucking you up than original Phoenix does now.

Phoenix Wright’s mode is also time limited. If you burn your XF on that too… well yeah he’s back to normal Wright and you’re screwed in a 1vs3 situation if that arises. It’s difficult to outlast 3 characters with turnabout alone. Wright is more useful as an assist and is very ideal if he’s in turnabout in any 1v1 situation.

We can only hope…

I think using Phoenix Wright for the Super Haggar assists is the best aspect of him. His turnabout mode on point seems alright but what kind of mix up does he really have on point in that mode? I think the idea is more so to find a way to get in Turnabout mode and then keep your other point characters alive so you can hold on to your Super Haggar assist as long as possible. If Super Haggar has to come in then you just throw “hand pipe” out for a while and hope it hits people. If not then you probably lost.

Least that’s the way it seems like it’ll go. To me he just sounds like the assist version of Phoenix. Instead of getting a super duper point character you get a super duper assist character with a somewhat controlling point game also. Now we have Dark Phoenix and Dark Haggar/Phoenix Wright.

pw’s instant jump faggot finger ™ is a near instant overhead from half screen. its opened me up online… dont play the character so dont know if he has good ranged lows to go with it.

I see great dooms give up a lot of sphere flame opportunities and end up just blocking shit that comes above them. As a doom player, people need to look out for sphere flame attempts because that shit will kill any character with xfactor.

Gotta give credit to P. Wright’s ranged game while loaded with good evidence. Some characters can do very little about certain combos of evidence. Watching it reminds me of characters being dicked by Phoenix in Vanilla.

I’m pretty sure when the character shakes out, he’ll be used more like a ranged character keeping the threat of an objection/turnabout mode for anyone who gets too close, or if he happens to land a hit he can confirm and onvert.

Not this stupid “jump around mashing :f::h: and hope I get lucky!” stuff we’re seeing so far.

I don’t think we’ve seen the end of Dark Phoenix, but she won’t be nearly as dominant and important in the metagame. She still punishes the fuck out of keepaway teams that lack rushdown and snap/incoming mix-ups.

They changed it in Ultimate, it’s not nearly the omgwtfinstagib it used to be in Xfactor.

He just seems like Dark Haggar to me. Now you get ultra assists instead of ultra point.
