Personally, I prefer projectiles over beams with GR. There’s nothing that I can do with a beam that I can’t also do with a projectile. The damage scaling is also huge and the multiple hits can also lead to additional hit stun decay.
Chaos Spire Back + Heavy is great as an anti air/ GTFO me move. GR may not have a slide, but I can think of a lot of characters who have worse up-close normals. His crouching light hits low and his crouching medium has decent range. Compare them to Dr. Strange for example. Strange has shitty range and recovery on his crouching attacks and the only one that hits low is his slow-as-hell sweep. Nova is another character whose ground normals are kind of ass. His c. mp is nice, but his c. lp is probably one of the worst normals in the game.
As far as Hawkeye is concerned, he’s a completely different kind of character than ghost rider. I can get an easy 500-800k off a single hit from max range with Ghost Rider, which could come from a near-full screen instant high or instant low. Hawkeye is basically a DeeJay type character. He has a slide, he has a solid keep away game, and some nice comboes. He has to rely on his slide to catch mistakes and open up the opponent. Ghost Rider actually has a strong high-low mix up from full screen, which I think is something fairly unique that hasn’t really been seen before in capcom games. Again the closest character I can think of is v-13 from Blaz Blue.
Akuma: Mix up options got better and air XF = instant retarded buff for this character. Plus comes with tatsu assist which still rapes.
Ammy: This character was more so of an “anti XF” character that had two supers that basically stalled the XF options of other characters. Now she gets a whopping 40 percent speed increase in XF like people have wanted and well the last thing Ammy needs is to be any faster than she already is.
Felicia: Always been better than Dark Wesker IMO and still stand by it. I’ve never felt so little in control against Dark Wesker than against Dark Felicia. At least you can push block Dark Wesker for a bit and get some space. Felicia has all the shit that makes Dark Wesker annoying plus infinites that help freeze the XF time and keep her in it longer. Plus 45 percent speed increase and a bunch of moves that advance guard does nothing to help keep her out. If she forces you to block, you basically lost your character. Plus one of the only anchors that gets her own super assist that creates overheads and can’t be advance guarded either. Allowing for easy full team kills by just activating it and trapping the next character down in the corner after wall carry kill on first charcter.
Spencer: People have sworn this guy has issues with getting air thrown out of zip lines and still being a bit unsafe but Combofiend generally does too well with him as anchor for this to matter. Plus they improved the speed of zip line to help Spencer’s cracked out XF cause.
Wesker: Now he has a level 4 XF technically with glasses. I think XF2 Wesker with assist is definitely scarier than even XF3 Wesker but XF3 Wesker is still a clearly scarier anchor than most of the other cast.
Magneto: Whatever nerfs Magneto got for his point game basically get de-nerfed when he goes into XF3. Definitely lucked out in Vanilla with being so good on point that there wasn’t the biggest reason to use him as anchor. He was clearly either way one of Vanilla’s most retarded anchors and looks like he shall be still one of the most retarded whether people actually use him or not. Still has magnetic shockwave to kill assists and stop any randomness, gets pretty much unseeable high/low in XF3 and can do the old ROM again when in XF3. Plus flight cancel tools to deal with advance guards and OS air throw into dead character comes back in XF3.
Dorm: This guy is ridiculous. It would be early to say…but from early judgement looking to be within top 5 anchors easily. I don’t know why people bring up the chip stuff cuz that’s easily the least powerful of his XF stuff and that got nerfed due to air XF. It’s his retarded ass mix up in XF3 that really counts. Stalking flare XFC teleport around until they block wrong and end up with dead character is crazy. Chaotic flame and stalking flare = can’t call assists anymore at all. Plus now gets self safe 50/50 assist teleport style mix up with dark matter into mass change/teleport. Block wrong, lose a character. High/low still great and still has hurp durp high/low cross up with j.S. Being able to store dark spells in the air now gives even more screen control with 3D0C being able to be charged from the air. They move…blow them up hit them with super…gone. Assist got blown up too? You got a birthday.
Phoenix: 5 bars…Dark Phoenix…you better have anti Dark Phoenix character or anti DP tech team or you lose.
Super Skrull: Buffs to his special moves could really make him one of the big scare factors as anchor now. It’s still a bit on the risky side but XF3 Skrull being on the screen pretty much means you lose your ability to call assists which is big.
Wolverine: This guy has always been a broken ass anchor it’s just he gimps your team too much by providing no real solid assist. Gets instant overheads into death combos in XF3 easily and technically does have the right scare factor to be strong anchor if you just consider what he can do. It’s just people don’t want to take the risk of gimping their team with an assist and there’s generally other anchors with more options.
Not going to judge the new characters early but Vergil sounds like new Dark Wesker and Nova and Strider could have potential also.
The only reason I was really adamant on X-23 over Wolverine was because her technology especially with dirt nap and DHC glitch was technically more guaranteed versions of the stuff Wolvie could do. It was just it could not overcome invincible berserker slash or the ease of use of XF1. It was just two random things that really kept Wolvie over her and one of them was just a game design flaw any way.
Well the last 2 things you mentioned were stuff that Justin Wong brought up before the game came out. I tried out Chun Li day one and pretty much brushed her off as a viable character the next day. I realized Sentinel was completely overhyped after seeing day one Wesker but it took a while after that before people really started running Wesker.
I’ve been playing Strider 2nd but I’m starting to think he might be best last because of how retarded he is in Level 3. Everything is either hard as fuck to react to or just a ToD, plus his assist is full retard and you NEVER go full retard.
Fuck Tron, Strider is my new hetero life partner <333 xoxo
Whoever thought homing dive kick with hard knockdown on airborne hit was a good idea as an assist…I thank them cuz I hope it makes my new team work. LOL.
idk about bad. but hawkeye is a very…situational anchor? like if your opponent have no xfact left then he’s pretty fuqed. if you both got xfact then just try to force him to burn his before you do.
Might as well throw this out there. Why isn’t Rocket Raccoon god tier? He has tons of instant air overheads, can burrow under everything, absurd frametraps, two airdashes, a hover for impossible-to-react-to IAO’s, can set up his own 100% safe left/rights, has the hardest to see teleport in the game, and every string he has is safe. Not to mention he has the most annoying hitbox in the game. He moves so fast he can’t even be effectively pushblocked. And he does solid damage. Thank goodness he’s technical, because he’d be completely broken. However, because he’s technical, few will play him, which is a very good thing. Count me in as one of the few.
He’s too weird of a character archetype for people to say even though he does have a lot of stupid shit. He isn’t really killing people in one combo yet or proven to be a super threat yet in general. He definitely does have the tools IMO so it’s definitely a wait and see thing. Capcom wouldn’t give him 750k health unless they thought he was good.
because everyone still on vergil nutsack atm. but although i don’t think RR is godtier, my boy MGVfinest does use him so i’ve had the misfortune of getting instant overhead numerous times. i personally feel he’s one of the better characters in this game for sure.
She’s the one difficult character I haven’t tried yet so I just believed the crowd. Who would ya’ll rate as the top 5 most difficult characters to use to their max potential? By max potential I mean perfect hit confirms, mixups resets, and as much damage as possible from each hit in a team specifically designed for them?
I’m a say…
#1 Ironman (atleast in vanilla) hit-confirming with him is nuts. #2 Modok #3 Viper
Don’t choose a bad character because winning with them is hard because they’re bad I’m talking about decent potential if you were perfect.
Edit: Yea Raccoon is godlike, good luck on making a tiers list at the end of this, 50 characters and 30 of them scare me to death when used right. I was running rocket today and still doing well when I just know his basic combo, teleporting small hit box crazy tricks traps and mind games out the wazoo.
And everyone don’t sleep on that double shot assist! it’s like sents drones it doesn’t combo I was getting wild mixups with Vergil while using it.
In my opinion his reach is extremely limiting. He does have overheads but to get into range you HAVE to be close. Burrowing isn’t as good as you might think, he can get lit up during his airdashes, everything he has is safe until he gets punished from any range. You’d also be surprised by how many things DO hit him, with little variation to compensate for his size.
Yeah, his reach is limiting, but Akuma also has some rather pathetic reach on his normals. They’re good enough though, and I think it’s something that Rocky can overcome as well. And in response to DevilJin, although he isn’t killing in one combo, neither is Strider yet either. Neither ever will, but with how easy it is to get in as Rocky, that hardly matters. I’ll take the 600k Bnb we have so far, then instant air overhead you for the other 350k.
