This. All of my vanilla bnbs didnt work. I felt like simply dropping him cause he seemed way too different. I’ve since put some lab time in and have found some stuff. Execution requirements are def tighter. Buster into L lightning dive has to be done pretty fast. I am looking forward to making him work tho.
I just posted this on the Zero boards but there’s a lot of non-zero stuff in here so I’m going to copy it here:
I picked up the game at a midnight release at Wal-mart and found out they were having a tournament I didn’t know about. I had a meeting to go to this morning at 9AM but because I’m an idiot I decided I’d play in the tourney anyway. I was pleasantly surprised for how well the tournament was ran given that it was a random casual hosting it (double elim, 2/3). I think I took 4th or 5th out of 16, had to leave before finding out and there were a few good players there (all the people I normally play with). There were at least 4 people there who knew of me from the combo video and said they learned their Zero from me; I’m a celebrity!
Thoughts:
-Charging the buster before the round is the biggest buff Zero got. People (Magneto) actually have to respect him at the start now.
-Buster cancel is pretty ridiculous but I didn’t get to do too much fancy stuff with it and decided to keep it simple for the tourney. I found some stuff right away when I brought the game home though (again because I’m an idiot and kept playing until 3AM).
-Meter gain is nerfed so hard holy shit. I did Buster > Lightning > S > j.2H > j.H > S > j.MM > Buster > Lightning > S > j.MMHS and it didn’t build one damn meter.
-I didn’t even notice Zero’s extra health.
-Characters with high health are a pain for Zero now. I think Thor may actually be a bad matchup (and I think he’s good in general now).
-Launchers (all of them, not just Zero) launch significantly higher now which makes it harder to get a full air-series off of an anti-air launcher or OTG relaunch.
-No blocking in air-dash is harder to adjust to than I anticipated.
-Rekkoha pre-flash seems faster but maybe I am crazy.
-Combo extensions with the new ending lag on H-Sentsuizan are much much harder to do (for now anyway).
-Overall I think Zero was only slightly buffed, but I think he still may be the best character in the game barring the new characters.
-Bolts of Balthakk is probably as good as drones for screen control, but isn’t very good for combos. Eye of Agamotto is incredible for combos though.
-Zero/Dante DHC synergy is still very much alive, you just don’t get the wallbounce. You can still do Rekkoha > DT > dash > acid rain *2 > S > j.S immediately (falling acid rain holds them in it) > [assist otg combos] > volcano~beehive > stinger > bold cancel > jet stream~fireworks > super. Zero and Dante both do significantly less damage though. Dante’s assistless advanced bnb doesn’t break 700k even with mashing now and used to do 800k. Actually now that I think about it you might still get the wallbounce if after the acid raid you instead do S > Charge Shots > Stinger assuming Charge Shots is still a soft knockdown.
-The ability to influence the direction of a neutral super jump after the jump is really annoying. I was dropping a lot of combos because when I did j.2H I accidentally did j.1H which put me out of range to continue the combo. Will take some adjustment.
Non-Zero stuff:
-Spencer is a problem. That zipline is so damn fast.
-Nova and Strange both felt disappointing (great assists though)
-I was excited for the new Iron Man but I think he might actually be even worse now
-The Hammer becomes active much later. I was doing TK hammers to test how abusable it is with the new input but it’s really not. Even starting hammer at the height of Magneto’s head it whiffed him completely (didn’t become active before Dante touched the ground).
-Sentinel felt like he was made of paper. I really need to confirm that he has 900k life because it felt more like 700k.
-Skrull is really good now (he was before, but more so now).
-Wesker is still Wesker
-Dark Phoenix is still Dark Phoenix but it is much much harder to get 5 meters for her.
-She-Hulk and Wolvie are both looking pretty free.
-Phoenix Wright might be a problem.
-XF3 still lasts goddamn forever.
-I might play Zero/Vergil/Strider or at least try it.
-I don’t get the hype for Doom. He’s still the same character. He’s good (I used him in almost every game) but him being better is just a product of his bad matchups being worse.
-Magneto vs Haggar is hilarious.
-The new floatiness of everyone made Sentinel’s advanced unfly combos like 30x easier.
Looks like Strider is going to be a leader in terms of resets and setups.
His Vaijira assist is also a god send.
I see him no lower than B Tier
Also, I can’t see a reason to ever use Tron again. That character is done.
Mags just shits on people who need to super jump to get things started. I swear, Chris looks so helpless when he’s dealing with Gravitation/assist.
I have been playing since gamestop midnight release and Have noticed a few things… Hawkeye is very scary from anywhere on the screen. Nova can full combo you for 700k easy no matter where you are on the screen air or ground… and Gravimetric Pulse H (The shield) was very underrated as was his centurion arts H. Once its moving just dont press a button or you are going for a ride. Surprisingly Dr Strange feels really bad… its hard to get him started. Thor seems much improved also I really cannot believe they felt he needed to hit harder than he already did. Rocket Raccoon is not god tier (yet) but his hit box is ridiculous I have to adjust everything when that fool is on screen… lastly Vergil,Strider,West and Wright are all pretty godly …vergil and strider can just shut shit down but if they get touched once they are gone. West seems … really good and PW is godly when he isnt fighting anyone who can get behind him quickly. Just my first thoughts.
i’ve been on this game since friday. the only thing hawkeye have that is scary is his lv 1 hyper that tracks anywhere and punish just about everything. oh! and his quick shot assist is pretty decent. but his aerial control game is absolutely ass. and characters like chris shut down his zoning just because of crouch.
strider is definitely good, just don’t get hit, no need to explain vergil, and phoenix wright imo is fucking terrible. if your character have an teleport you’ll more than likely rape the shit out of this character because the only thing he had protecting him ( maya ) you basically get around that shit for free if you tele with an multi-hitting projectile assist. plus, he seems to have zero mix up game at all.
Yipes thinks vergil is mid tier at best.
Fuck Spencer. No…really…Fuck Him.
Hawkeye, Strider, Vergil seem like the best of the new characters right now. Frank West is right there too.
Sentinel still seems pretty good, BUT ONLY on point. Tron looks…gimped, but still useable.
If I had to venture a Day One guess…
Viper, Dante, Wesker, Doom, Strider for top 5.
Vergil, Taskmaster, Hawkeye, Spencer all seem REALLY REALLY good.
Taskmaster’s Web Swing Cancel is really fucking absurd.
I thought this game was going to have less damage? Wrong.
i havnt played a good mags yet with my haggar im really not looking forward to that on unrelated not hawkeye is actually a pretty good last
 LOL kids is gettin HEATED about my boy NATHANIEL RODRIGUEZ SPENCAH
What I’m loving about Phoenix Wright is that he’s madd fun to use and really strong (I think so), but you actually have to think while playing him. It was weird seeing Marvel on the screen, but feeling the gears moving. Definitely a plus for me.
care to elaborate
Presumably he’s saying that Chris (and other zoners) beats Hawkeye on the X-axis, and that because Hawkeye can’t shoot down forward in the air without meter or trick shot ( which gets stuffed on startup ), the matchup is free. I assume by crouch he’s referring to going prone to dodge Hawkeye’s projectiles?
I don’t care what you guys say. I will make Stephen Strange god tier! You will be afraid…
Maybe.
both him and jago did say he would be mid teir at best
but then Justin n pr rog think he’s easily one of the best
When I was doing his missions, this had to be the first thing I noticed. I don’t care about his damage, you give him easy mix ups it’s game over for near half the cast.
Other notes
Chris: He’s better but in ways I don’t really like.
Iron Man: Holy Hell Photon Cannon has a huge hitbox now, not to mention they cut the start time down. Hello silly ass Iron Man tech.
Nemesis: He’s gonna be slept on, I can feel it. Noah’s gonna win EVO with him though.
Not really interested in trying out anyone else for the moment. Definitely gonna scout out the Spidey forums and see what they’re saying about him.
Oh, and Hsien-Ko: She had mix ups already that just took a hell of a lot of patience to pull off, but now? I’m afraid she’s gonna be pissing off a lot of people, probably more so than Firebrand.
Make him? The dude is borderline broken out of the box.
Based solely on speculation, I feel like Vergil and Strider will be high/top, half because they’re strong on their own and half because they’ll fit in with a lot of teams. Rocket Raccoon will also be incredibly good, but he’s kind of a gamble and hard to use. Nemesis will also be that good, but not a gamble and probably pretty simple to use. Other characters like Phoenix Wright and Frank really need the right members around them to be at their most effective, but will still be really powerful. Everyone else seems mid except for Iron Fist who just doesn’t have the tools to compete in a game that takes place in the air 50% of the time.
Here’s Jago and Yipes’ ranking from the most recent WWHY (note that there is no “top” tier):
Vergil- Upper Mid (8/10)
Strider- Upper Mid (8/10)
Nova- Wild Card (7/10)
Nemesis- High (8/10) (not sure how he has the same numbers as Vergil and Strider but is high, not upper mid??)
Iron Fist- Low (6/10)
Ghost Rider- Upper Mid (8/10)
Hawkeye- Mid (7/10)
Doctor Strange- Wild Card (7/10)
Phoenix Wright- Wild Card (7/10)
Frank West- Mid (7/10)
Firebrand- Upper Mid (8/10)
Rocket Raccoon- Wild Card (7/10)
From this it seems like they think Nemesis will be the best, but I think that might just be because Jago has already put a lot of time into him and figured out his strengths and weaknesses. He also seems more basic than say, Strange or Rocky.
Justin has been wrong before in this kind of things. Also that was before release.
It’s too early with the new characters. People are still figuring out what to do with them, which is why half the players think PW is GDLK and the other half think he’s crap.
We can make some good guess regarding the returning cast (except Iron Man) but nothing we say about the new guys really has much weight at this point.
Note:Getting Frank West to lvl4-5 is really easy.
