I hope you Troc heads can keep us updated on the state of the arcade, once it’s in good condition, and probably after they get a CvS2 machine, I’ll head down there.
I think what somewhat else said about having to keep everyone happy, not just the fighter players is true though. I don’t really know what else is big other than DDR though. Initial D, maybe? Maybe consider a “retro” section with games that people from the arcades’ heyday will remember too, only problem is that a lot of those games are pretty expensive now…
Oh, and you gotta have a 4 player Simpsons/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sitdown cab
i can’t believe most people are only suggesting fix the machines as a way to promote growth. Even if they fix the machines and get new technicians, its still gonna be the same people turning up putting in the same cash.
Like polarity says, I think the Troc needs to rethink its layout and sort the games into sections. Have racing games (Intial D, Outrun 2 SP, 4-player Daytona, etc) in one section, light-gun section (Time Crisis 3, Virtua Cop 3, etc), fighting games section, DDR/drum hitting game/other girl shit in another section, retro/shmup section, etc.
Troc’s too big and stuffed with unwanted games to justify that size (how many Tekken 4 cabs?). When House Of The Dead 4 comes to the arcade, I’m not going to spend ages wandering around Troc trying to find it because Troc is too big and quite frankly, I’m too lazy to be wandering around stinking of sweat trying to find a machine that might not even be there. Downsize and make the layout clear so everyone knows what’s what.
Blatant :karate:
EDIT: Mullah, don’t underestimate the sway that decent technicians have. Troc has built up a nasty reputation as a place where arcade machines never work properly and I know why it’s a lot of people around my neck of the woods don’t want to go. And it’s definitely what’s putting me off wasting my time and money going, I know that much. It’s only a small part of the bigger picture, sure, but it’s still relevant all the same.
Daaaamn right my son. Fixing machines should be the very first thing to be done. But the Troc needs other games so the place WILL actually appeal to other people. 3S is not the only fighting game about, by some of the responses in here youd think it was. They can give the machine a gold balltop and give free cookies away with every credit spent on it. Im still not going to play it.
I guess what Im trying to say, and Im not trying to be rude, is that a scene with only 1 game sucks. You need to have THE TOP games in troc, all working beautifully before you are going to see a major change in players attending. I can imagine there are more people in my boat. I wont bother going unless ‘my game’ is there to be played. Most people that like fighters will like one out of 3S, CVS2, Reload S, KoF, ST or T5. So all these games need to be installed in that place. They arent all that needs to be there either, those are just the main games.
I agree with advertising. Even if its just around the walls in Troc. Let people know about all the things that will be changing. New cabs, future tournies + etc.
yeah thats a point but what i was trying to say is that even with cvs2 and tekken5 (something i want to play), i’m not gonna spend money to train it up to london without some incentives like free credits or the smallest moneymaker on freeplay. once you’ve enticed me there, i’ll probably spend money but it’s sucking people in thats the hard part.
Last time I went and had a proper look about the place, I saw three Tekken 4 cabs. If all the fighting games were grouped together, they’d realise they only needed one (well, they’d see Tekken 5 and realise they wouldn’t need any).
Last time I was there I remember seeing a basketball game next to Tekken 4 next to that PSOne light-gun game (name escapes me right now). That’s not grouping shit together, that’s buying machines and throwing them in wherever there’s a space.
What’s Virtua Soccer 3 doing slap bang in the middle of the fighting games? You can’t parry in that.
There are girl games all over the fucking place.
Point being, if you’re going to have a place that big, you need some semblance of organisation. Hell, my local Sega Park does a better job of grouping games together and that’s barely a sixth of Trocadero’s size.
I doubt they’d ever make it freeplay, but I’m thinking maybe a few stand up cabs with classic fighters, like Killer Instinct 1, Alpha 2 and Hyper Fighting for 20p per game.
The reason conertrap stoped doing tournaments, is because the arcade(namco) that was used to run the tournaments didn`t want us doing the tournaments there anymore.
We then started tournaments in casino, but the controls were so bad and then trocadero got the japanese machines in and well that was the end of alpha 3 in casino.
i wanna see killer instinct at the arcade, i werent fortunate enough to be around the arcade scene when it was there, id like to see good players play that game
i havent seen the 100 hit combo’s yet iv only reached 84
cvs2
mvc2
kof 98 and 2004
SF anniversary (We had this on a vs machine last year, what the hell happened?).
Killer Instict 1 (on a decent stand up cab)
Samurai Spirits tenka (on a stand up cab)
Virtua FIghter 4 final tuned (latest ver.)
Fist of the North Star fighting game (as soon as it come out)
Soul Calibur 3
JoJo’s Bizzarre adventure (on a stand up cab).
All im saying is i would like to see a tournament every week for cash. thats , or $$$, Lets say 100 for 1st or something worthwhile. (even if Troc has to stump up some promo cash.) But im fairly confident that if prize was big enough you’d get enough players turning up.
I’d like each week to feature a different game. Say Alpha 3 week 1, Third Strike week 2, Super Turbo Week 3, Tekken 5 week 4. Then rotate back around. (sorry no ggxx zakuta, i got that on laptop though, looks sweet with the hi-def screen, but like fuck im getting that out at troc.)
We all know fighting games comes down to money matches. We know tournaments = , and more importantly a reason to train. From Troc’s point of view as well this could be a money spinner, because mans are going to be playing other shit while they’re waiting, hanging about.
c’mon chunkis revive the Super Turbo and Alpha 3 scene.
I’ve seen like 3 people mention KOF 2004 in this thread when it doesn’t even exist outside of some cheap hack Might as well just wait for KOF XI now anyway, shit looks hot.
Troc having the big games imo is most important. But there is no reason why any other good game cant have a scene develop. CVS2 will get me into the place, but having a choice of fighters will make the place that much more fun to hang out at.
