Yeah. Only change characters after a loss.

How come you’re doing single match and then changing finals to 3/5? Not that I really have a problem with it or anything but it’s just kinda an akward combination.

Well, first off, the rules are already made, so we’re just going to have to live with them for this tourney. Next time, however, I think we’re going to change the rules a bit. <_<

Stephane-
You remember last tourney, where we only had 8 people for #R, right? And because we had 8 people (less than half of tekken), we did 2/3, double elim. And remember how long it took? It lasted almost a full half-hour past when Tekken 5 was already done. Considering this time that we’ll have MORE people playing, we NEEDED to go down to single matches, double elim.

Yosh-
Yeah, good games. You tended to do a lot better once you started to block everything low, which is great. Just one step towards greatness, eh?

i was thinking semi-finals should be 2/3. I guess I should have put that in the rules. Sorry, originally finals for last semesters tourney was 4/7 but then that took like 1/2 an hour to finish, so I figured I would just tone it down one notch.

About character changing:

I am really open to suggestions. I was talking to dan today, and just saw the posts just now. I think he does make a good point in double elimination, though it is kind of late to change the rules now, like scott said.

Yea, I remember that tournament. Marcus was like… man, it’s way past closing time. Too bad Marcus doesn’t work there anymore.

Anybody up for some recording? I think we should tape the finals, if not final bracket matches. :woot:

@ Scott:

Dunno. It feels like whenever I play you, I’m a noob all over again. Pain is good, though. Aghhh briiing iiitttt :badboy:

thx for doing the eb stuff jerry, srry i had to leave for class.

4 ppl are signed up for tekken (including me). mm, maybe i scared them all off last time when i beat down everyone LOL.

Well, I tell everyone this story, but… all of 1 year ago, when I would play Aaron (AKA), my goal was to win ONE match. And I usually didn’t even hit that goal.

Back in the day, this was my strategy for improving.

  1. Practice new combo/concept in training mode.
  2. Play with scrub friends to get practice in actually using it (and still usually lose).
  3. Play any number of good players in STL and get my ass handed to me, but finally really learn the concept.
  4. Rinse and repeat.

So, yeah. It’s important to practice, play with friends around your level, and play someone much better than you. All 3 of those are probably required to get better, I think.

Jerry-
Well, as I recall, last time it was thus:
-Finals, 3/5
-Semifinals, 2/3
-Everything else, 1/1

That’s something we can actually change the day of the tournament though, and that’s what I think we should do.

Come on people, this is not right, we clearly see that we need to bend the tournament’s rule a little bit. I know that last time we had to time issues with Guilty Gear. but if this time I had to bring my PS2 and another TV so that the tournament goes twice as fast, I am willing to do it. As long as those who support my ideas are willing to help me carrying the TV and another PS2 overthere. Scott you have a VCR so yeah we definitively need to record final and everything. I don’t really see how the tournament is gonna go without best 2 out of 3. Scott, do you rememeber how long does it take you go beat all of us when we play together??? not more than 30 minutes; and that is when we are playing best 2 out of 3. now how long do you think the tournament is going to last if we play only one game??? Let face it, the reason why the tournament lasted a long time last time was because of you Scott. You were a scrub a runing a tournament and you even screwed up a couple of time only to yell at me (don’t ever do that again or I will litterlly kill you…). So we should be fine if the tournament is run faster.

Running two screens is not a bad idea, but then we’d have to do the same for other games. I mean, constestants in 3S and T5 will be mad if GG had a extra round.

err i think we shouldn’t be pointing fingers at anyone, so just chill out …

scott said we can change the game count the day of the tourny (after we see how many ppl actually show up), and that sounds very reasonable to me.

Well that isn’t true. It isn’t like we have to be fair to every game. Ideally, yes I would be fair to every game if I had TVs and ps2’s flowing out of my pockets. Sadly, I don’t even have a TV or a ps2 right now, so that isn’t going to happen.

Stephane, I don’t think that it was scott’s fault for having the tournament strain out. It was just long by itself. If you want to bring another TV, then we can discuss this and see. I think it’s fine, though ur responsible for it.

I agree with scott, we can change the game count on the day of the tournament anyways.

i have another small ps2 and tv i could bring for tekken also if needed…but with 4 ppl signed up so far, it doesn’t seem like such a nessecary thing at the moment. just have to wait and see how many sign up in the next week or so.

I’m gonna go put up some flyers at PAR and FAR now. If we don’t have any at Six Pack yet, I could do that when I go over there for work tomorrow night.

BTW, I also made a extra flyer of my own. I figured Jerry’s is pretty informational so I just tried to make mine eye catching. So HERE is the flyer if anybody else might want to print it. I dunno about how it would look in b&w, but it looks decent in color IMO. Anyhow, I’m gonna go post some flyers now. Peace!

alright, alright, I am not saying that it was scott’s fault in the tournament went slower (even if I said that before, lol). what I am saying is that we should look at what happened at the last tounament and then change the things that we did wrong like screwing people’s name and seed. Don’t change it in the way of like reducing the playing time and everything. and Yeah I don’t even know how many new people are gonna sign up for the GGXX tournament so maybe we may just end up needing one TV for GGXX. I don’t think that the other gamer (T5 and Third strike) would be jalous if we had another TV. if they want to have another TV for their game. they can bring their own…

Orka, the flyer that you created looks awesome even if the first time I looked at it, I though that Millia was holding a plastic penis…lol. gosh I have a sick mind… oh we but nice job I like it, I think that people would be more attracked to read it when they see Millia. For next time we I say we should have I-no naked. the picture where we can see her boobs when she wins!! like the one frame where you can actually see it when she turns around.

Hey, Stephane, you need to chill.

As I recall, you were the one who broke the rules; I didn’t break them for you. Maybe I shouldn’t have yelled at you, but I made the rules explicitly clear, and you were trying to be the exception to the rule.

Secondly, you have no idea how I ran the tournament, as I didn’t tell you. The only mistake I made was with with seeding Yosh incorrectly, which didn’t even affect you. Other than that, everything went smoothly. There weren’t 20 minute stretches where nobody was playing, so there’s no reason why I would have caused the length of the tournament. The truth is that it took so long because it was run differently from Tekken 5, in that it was 2/3, double elmin. Because we’ll have more players this time, it would take ridiculously long to finish. So we will NOT be changing the format to 2/3 for normal matches. If you don’t like it, then you have every right not to play in this tournament; nobody is forcing you. I’m sure we’ll be playing casual afterwards, so we can all just meet somewhere to play.

I could bring my VCR to record the finals; that wouldn’t be a problem at all. However, I don’t think we have the room to fit another TV at EB Games. We’ll have to see what the sign-up sheets are like on friday or so. If we’re going to have a much bigger turnout for one game than another, then we’ll have to get another TV. The biggest game will most likely get 2 TVs, unless all the games are evenly sized, in which case we’ll just use the TVs available.

Ah, come on guys. I’m sure everything will be fine… If this tourney doesn’t run as well as we expect, we will make appropriate adjustments till next time. Besides, I thought we were doing this for fun. I’m pretty pumped about it, personally. And playing against Li twice in a row was weird. Double mirror matches!! Man, I sucked so bad back then.

I distributed the flyers around the campus. I stopped by EB, then put some up on the front doors of PAR and FAR. I’m pretty sure it’s against regulation, but I’ll be happy if they last through midnight. Enough people probably would’ve seen the flyers by then. The ones Stephane put up on the quad were all gone, so I put some there too.

I figured everybody likes bright colors and hot chicks, so I made color prints with Millia. (Brilliant!!!) I thought about using the entire original picture, but it probably would gather too much attention. I wonder what Danchin would think about THIS pic…

Good games last night, bastef. Shout out goes to Steve as well. I don’t get to play with you guys too often, so 5 hours of GG was a bliss for me.

And please switch to Bridget. If you feel comfortable using a long-haired dude wearing a skirt, I know you can learn to love Bridget as well! k thx

does anyone here know how to mod ps2’s (the older, big ones)??? i’d like to practice ggxx#r

How far (or drive) is this from the Chicago Loop? I was thinking of going to school down there.

Depends on how long it takes you to get out of Chicago traffic. After that, it should take roughly two hours on the I-57.
