Uh, I can't believe I'm asking such basic questions. D:

Hey there,

So, I got SSF4 today. I’m having a little trouble with it. I’m in no way a newb to fighting games, in the slightest, however, this game is rather confusing, for me at least.

Okay, so, here’s problem one; Some combos tell you to do down, up then fist icon. Looks easy enough, however, when I input them, nothing happens… Well, usually a jump or something. Same with left and right (Guiles Sonic Boom for eg)

Also, when it comes to supers and ultras… Gah D:

You input two consecutive quarter circles… How ? I mean, I can input one easily enough, but a second without doing another direction? It’s not exactly easy.

Cancelling: I understand the concept and the moves that do… Any advice on making them work better?

First post btw, please go lightly on me. :]

Thanks in advance,

~Tonakai.

hold back, then go forward, punch = sonic boom.

qcfx2, down to forward twice. 236 236 PPP/KKK whatever.

just practice, you’ll figure it out sooner or later.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Oh I see, you hold back.

As for the quarter circle, once I’ve reached forward, do I release the button or roll my finger back and do it again? I’ve tried both methods, and I’m still rather unsure.

Do a quarter circle motion, twice.

so :qcf: :qcf:

And Moves that ask you to hold a direction and push another with a :hp: means you have to hold that direction for about a second, then release into the last input direction and fire the button.

usually hold for about 2 seconds on those charge motions. some are shorter like guile’s sonic boom but you’ll find the precise timing as you get better with the motions. for the super/ultra motions if you’re using a regular controller just mash the down and forward part of the d-pad. start at down roll your thumb over to forward roll back to down then roll back to forward and press the button. you can turn on button inputs in the training room. that’s a great way to troubleshoot execution issues. to get to it press start then training options then put input display on. also check out this thread for more execution help http://shoryuken.com/f322/srk-newbie-saikyo-dojo-execution-guide-read-me-234169/

You don’t have to be very precise with the 2 quarter circle motions as long as you hit all of these inputs in order: :d::df::qcf:

:qcf::df::qcf: is ok too as long as you hit those required inputs quick enough. Remember to press the required :p: or :k: input at the :r: and not at the :df:. The minimum amount of required inputs should be :d::df::qcf: + button(s) and not :d::df::d::df: + button(s).

do you just play 3d fighters like Soul Calibur and Tekken?
not trying to knock you, just curious how you are confused with such simple inputs

go to training mode, turn on your input display(so you can see what you’re doing right/wrong). that & practice until you’re proficient(from both sides)!

moves that go back then forward or down then up require a charge of about 1.5 seconds. so back for a second, then forward with punch.

for quarter cirlce moves, start slow. They don’t need to be done super fast, take your time and make sure your doing it smoothly, don’t rush the motion.

Thanks everyone for all the replies.

I’ve got both moves sorted. I found out my problem with the QCx2 moves was that I was hitting the button on the Quarter Circle Forward and not on the Forward which is silly xD

thanks again,

~Tonakai

Well, I’ve been playing Fighting games since the days when Mortal Kombat 1 seemed advanced.

The reasoning for it is, I’ve not touched a fighting game in a while, and not played SF since SF2 on the SNES/Megadrive. So, the mechanics seemed kinda new.

You can hit other directions between QCF QCF. Even top players sometimes do :qcf: :l::db::qcf:

You usually have to do the next input just as the first move is making contact. You know, the game freezes for a split second every time a move connects with the oponent. That’s the moment to do the cancel; time your next input so that you do the button press during the mini-freeze.

You beat me to that. I can’t think of many 2d fighting games without charge or 2x qcf motions.

Sorry, I’ve just re-read your post.

Yes, as of late, I have been playing mainly 3d’s such as VF5, Tekken6, SC4, none of which I have encountered a qcx2.

I’ve got it down now though. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thank you. ^^
