UFS(Universal Fighting System) Returns

While I don’t know if this should go into this thread as it is a card game. It is a card game about Fighting games. The game has returned from the dead amazingly enough. I for one have been a long time player of the game and is really excited for its return. For those of you that don’t know this game encompasses Street Fighter, KOF, Samurai Showdown, Tekken, Soul Calibur, Darkstalkers, and an original liscense known as Shadow War allowing cross over dream matches between characters from the various franchises.

I’ve been playing the game since it’s release, attended Worlds 08 and 09 over EVO and what not…I can’t info on FFG’s site, I demand a link now please!

Jasco games owns the liscenes now. I’ll pm you his address so you can be put on the mailing list.

Jeez last I heard he was fighting a losing battle with it.

This is what I know though:
Jasco is one game store in Texas. Now, as far as I know, the most he was able to get LAST I HEARD would be the UFS license itself, not any particular fighting game license. And I’m not going to pretend I know their financial system, but I personally doubted, even if able to buy the game and even licensing if he could handle hiring staff for the game, printing, and distribution costs of a game that probably will not profit on its own (after all, that’s why the game died).

If he’s able to support it, god bless him. I’d like to play again. Thank god the game always had an active playerbase in NY. I’d like to know more about what’s going on for sure.

Sent you a pm with all the info.

Go ahead and kick me a PM as well. We had a fairly small group of players in my area that would like to hear the good news.

Yo the email you gave me wasn’t legit it seems. Got a return saying he don’t have a yahoo account.

huh? I didn’t realise there was a problem with it. I was just looking at the site wondering if it was worth buying just the other day :o

So is FFG not doing it anymore or something? I’m confuzzled.

Nope. Game got killed due to not turning anything close to a profit. Pretty much, the game changed hands due the original company being bought out by FFG, and while FFG tried hard, there was an unfortunate transition period that lasted a bit long that turned a lot of players off. We’ll see what Jasco has in store for it I guess…

Awww, that’s a shame :o

So, as a long-time player would you recommend it should I manage to get my hands on a copy or Jasco makes good of it?

I’ve dabbled in various card games like ye olde magic, yugioh, battletech, AvP, deadlands, star trek and whatnot so which games would it be most comparable to?

Also, is it a collectable type or just set cards with a few expansions? :3

I highly recommend it as both a fighting game fan and a CCG player. Yes it is a full blown CCG with I believe 15 set releases available. The sets for modern which is going to be heavily played is from Shadow war foward is the most current block. However legacy is very robust with street fighter series out the ass and some of the most stupidly broken characters out there. Getting some of the cards now would be a good idea as the prices are low now and are only going to explode when the game gets back up.

Interestingly, the FFG site still has them down as ‘in stock’ so I was going to buy some. I thought I’d buy the Soul Calibur 99 set with Amy in it (that’s who I want to play as she’s my main in SC4 :stuck_out_tongue: ) but then noticed they were booster packs with only 10 cards in them. Does that mean I’ve only got a random chance of actually getting the character I wanted? If it is then boooooo

Did they get all the licenses? What about art departments involved in making them? I’ve played since the original demo decks were sent to stores.

I’m mostly interested in the Street Fighter and King of Fighters licenses, which seemed to drop off near the end cycle of FFG’s, also I preferred the art they took from Udon, the “other” studio’s art just wasn’t captivating.

Still, I love the game and system so PM me some info if you would. Although I don’t think this deserves to be in the fighting game section…

is this the one that legendary game designer david sirlin designed

no sry

Well Street fighter had to take a break because people were getting burned out by there always being a street fighter set with every release plus they were trying to aquire rights for sf4 cast at the moment. Kof was near the end of their run having used all but 5 people from the KOF MI 2 liscense. To be fair I had no idea what to put this under, but it did involve nothing but fighting games so I just put it here.

I really loved this game but it died out fast here in L.A. after a couple of tournies I went to during a summer vacation… Sad because the artwork on most of the cards was great and the SF cards in general were pretty damn awesome. I still have 300+ SF cards and several good decks…

I really do hope this thing gets boosted back to life

I figured the SF license only pertained to certain games and not the overall thing, I was hoping for a SFIV starter with Abel and Viper. Let’s see if they get Super though, that’d be pretty cool. I never understood why they only used MIRA, I was hoping they would pick up another KoF like XI, or other licenses like Fatal Fury with what they did for SamSho.

Hopefully this time around the art is more stable, it was odd seeing Udon SF art then another person using 3D Mira KoF art for sure.

We will just have to support the second coming of the game hard to get what we lost back in terms of Liscenes.

Oh Shit, I’ve been looking for people to play UFS with, you ever play in Columbia Rider?
