I’ve been playing and loving this game. At first I didn’t like it because it seemed complicated but not deep. As in hard to learn but easy to master, instead of easy to master but hard to master. The more I played though the more I realized that the game is just as hard to master as it is to learn. I’m an incredibly huge fan of UFC and MMA in general, and I love how this game captured all the intricacies of the sport. I do have a few complaints though:
To be honest the presentation sucks ass. It feels like they tried to make the career modes menu system as unintuitive as possible. Having to go through 10 sub menus to do something as simple as editing my trunks then having to back all the way through is an exercise in annoyance. Also all the constant loading and saving just throws salt in the wounds.
There needs to be tutorials for all the individual fighting styles. It’s sad that the only way to learn the specific controls for each fighting style is play through career mode with a CAF using that style.
While on the topic of controls, they could have overall been streamlined better. But I won’t knock the game too hard for that since they did an admirable job for a first try(I’m ignoring that terrible UFC game for the DC).
Also I hate how the energy can feel dead sometimes. The level of excitement just never truly reaches that of an actual UFC match.
My last and biggest complaint is that KO’s happen way to often in this game, I mean WAY to often. I like that they allowed the stamina bars to be displayed, but they could have taken an extra step with the HUD. Adding a character silhouette in which different body parts change colors as you damage them(such as green>yellow>orange>red), would be massively helpful in letting us know if we’re close to winning or losing.
exactly! Like the US K-1 World GP for PS2. That still has one of the greatest body damage systems in a fighting sim I’ve ever played. It is getting boring playing ranked online. Perhaps I should move to player matches b/c there it seems theres ppl that really know how to fight and don’t always go for Brock/Anderson/GSP/Rampage.
** Alright gentlemen, since the thread starter hasn’t posted here in a while, I’m going to restart this thread, so that we can get the leauge started. If there are no objections, I’m going to try to have this thread closed in a few days.**
Go ahead if you want to, but I would rather have a member with a better track record take care of huge threads. If you think you’re to it then go for it by all means.
What does a “better track record mean?” Mind you, I joined in 02 - but couldn’t recover my origninal username - and maintained the SNK fan fic thread for two years, the one that’s still there…so…I don’t see a problem. But if you would rather do it, you’re more than welcome.
Naw I don’t care enough to keep it up. It’s just that I see a lot of new members volunteering themselves to maintain big threads and eventually let it die out. Like I said earlier, if you think you’re up to it go ahead.
I put him in the choke but it was clear to me that I wouldn’t actually get the submission so I wanted to let go so I won’t waste more stamina. Instead of clicking the left stick to let go, I did some quick combination of clicking both sticks. RS,LS or LS,RS, I don’t remember. I never let go of the submission attempt but the game announcer said I did. At that point the submission attempt could not be broken/advanced by any means other than the round ending.
I’ve been looking for a comprehensive guide to the ground game, but can’t seem to find one. So I’m saying that SRK should take it into our own hands to make the guide. My idea is to list every position, and what happens during a minor transition, major transition, reversal, and submission in those positions. Please help me fill this out.
EDIT:
Does anyone know if reversals vary depending on if the opponent did a major or minor transition?
Have you seen this? I don’t know if it’s what you’re looking for, but it might be a good place to start.
Random Notes:
-On XBox, the number of ragequitters seems to have dropped exponentially. I don’t know if it’s just because I’ve been using the “Avoid Player” function or not, but man, I’ve been able to actually play recently.
-This game must have some sense of Karma. Played a guy’s created player Standing Strikes Offense and defense were both 115, and his submission offense and defense were 98. So I say to myself, well, I’m screwed. Round 1 starts, immidiately go for a single collar tie offense. Get it, uppercut number 1 connects, upercut number 2 KOs HIM!!! 7 second fight. I heard him drop his controller through the headset.
Finally, I get an e-mail after an XBox Live fight saying I’m ranked now. But I went to the weekly rankings and I don’t see myself…? :wtf:
After a bit of playing and researching a friend and I have compiled this list of what needs to be changed for the next game.
CHANGES
Add more risk to parrying, like a chance for a OHKO if you mistime it, because you leave your hands down and that shot will go clean through.
KO’s from body shots: Yes it has happened ( )
Leg shots affecting movement speed, punching power, and take down power: I have leg kicked chuck lidell till his leg was purple, and he still was able to throw hard punches, and was able to take me down, this should not be possible, not at all. I’m sorry, add more realism and strategy to the game.
Allocation of tapping out or blacking out: More of a saving grace one shot if you will. Allow us to choose whether we should still try to escape the submission if it’s locked, or let a limb get broken/black out/or allow us to tap out on our own.
a better career mode: I’m sorry the way this career mode was structured was horrible. It hardly allowed you to build up your stats the way you needed to so you’re able to fight efficiently(I could just be training wrong but oh well)
Allow for online teams, aka clans: Yes this would make things very interesting, allowing friends to make teams and take on other teams of fighters for rank etc.
Add a tournament mode: Like the old pride tournaments, you’d recover a good bit of damage, but you’ll still be hurt, making it so you have to fight smart.
I wanted this to happen also. I want to see my opponent limp around the cage while his leg is DARK purple. And stuffing my take downs with said purple leg? get the fuck outta here with that BS.
And i wish you could use the body triangle alot more than just hooks when you take your opponents back.
I just realized that when you unlock the Hitman Fight Gear Package, there are supposed to be shorts. However, i don’t see no shorts. Anyone else notice this?
Damaging someones legs does not affect their punching power. Damaging their arms affects their punching power. The game tells you this in the striking tutorial. Damaging your opponents legs affects their takedown power and their kicking offense/defense. Just because their leg or legs are purple doesn’t mean they can no longer do takedowns. It just means that it is much harder for them to take you down and do damage to you via kick. Another thing you have to consider is your takedown defense VS their takedown offense and how much energy and stamina you have in comparison to your opponents.
I said to add more realism. I understand how the game works. I merely stated, in order to add realism, attack someone’s legs shall decrease punching power. Because you transfer energy from the ground up. Like links in a chain, you need to step down to throw a hard shot, which is why when fighters go flat foot they throw some damn hard punches.
I have considered all those things, and again, I said to add realism. If you were to kick Tito’s legs out from him, Tito would not want to take down because of all the pressure he puts on his leg to shoot.
And to add, I had full stamina, and he still took me down with Rampage and I was Chuck Lidell.
any1 wanna play some matches hit me up on xbl…im seriously tired of ranked matches where everyone disconnects… I was 0-5 on live when i first got the game and was like “maybe i should learn how to play it” Now, anyone over rank 40 just disconnects when losing.
such a good game, could be more balanced character wise but i like it a lot.
I’m gonna be on tonight and tommorow - tommorow all night. Send me a friend request, and RiotingSoul is pretty good too. Plus, it’s not necessarily people over rank 40. I always check people’s win/loss record. Anyone with a skewed win loss percentage is probably a ragequitter. 60-9? Nah, that’s bullshit. This game has too many random knockouts for someone with more than 35 wins to have a 90% or higher winning percentage. Generally, if your win loss percentage is more than 70% wins/30% loss, I won’t play them - it’s probably messed up, but it’s a good rule of thumb. At least on 360, I don’t know about PS3.
