I scooped the hardcover along with the Udon Sketchbook, got an Alvin Lee sketch of Dudley, which is funny because 2 years ago I got Sean and every time you ask for a Street Fighter 3 character, they’re like,“What do they look like again?” Oh and as an added treat, here’s the painting I had commisioned from Scott Morse!:lovin:
Jo Chen was doing autographs only. Do you mean that you got a drawing by Jo Chen that was not done at the convention?
I hadn’t heard of anyone that worked on CvS2 attending.
For autographs on the book, you just have to ask them to sign it. If you bring it to another event they’re attending you can ask them to sign it. For a sketch usually you have to pay for it.
The person selling the book was nice. She was just doing her job telling new people who came up about the book. (…She might have gotten tired of saying it over and over again her self but if so she didn’t show it.
Purchase of that book didn’t include a sketch. I don’t recall seeing any sketches in that book specifically, but most of their sketches are busts.
My friend says she got me an 11"x20" (not sure if this is really the correct measurement or not, just going off by what she said) drawing of Ryu that Jo Chen did before the con. She said it was of Ryu and that “he looks angry” in it but that everyone in line told her it was the one to get so she got it for me. It’s a gift and she refuses to show me any pictures of it until I get it (by mail) so I will clarify when I do. She also says it is not a print or lithograph but that it is an original (colored too). In addition, she said there were more than one for sale. I believe she said 5 of Ryu and one of the other characters; something like that. I couldn’t find any info about this anywhere online so I assume Jo Chen made the drawings before the con to sell and that it wasn’t announced beforehand. It sounds cool, but I don’t want to give my hopes up for anything big.
Thanks for the info on the Ultimate Edition, Lupin!
I was getting ready to read some more of my Ultimate Edition hardcover, and I was looking at the art towards the back of the book, and THE PAGES JUST FREAKIN FELL OUT! I flipped threw some more of the back pages, then about 100 of the last pages fell right out! I’m pretty upset right now, and I’m definitely gonna look for a place to get this fixed and I’m willing to spend a lot of money to get it back into good condition. Has this happened to anybody’s copy?!?!?!
Owned by crap binding and glue. Guess they were expecting people to not open it and keep it in mint condition. lol.
Wow, that totally sucks. At first I was kicking myself for not getting the Ultimate Edition when I had the chance, but now I’m kind of glad I didn’t. I don’t know what I would have done if I had gotten it only to have the pages fall out like that.
I was lucky enough to find a book bindery dude today. I feel even luckier 'cause he was willing to fix it up for free cause he’s a comic book-fanatic. I’m guessing the intense socal heat was a factor of how it got damaged, plus, I bought it on friday, then lugged it around saturday to get it signed by more of the illustrators.
This is the first incident I heard about the pages. And I will look into the situuation to see if its is just a one time thing or it is a printer’s problem. IF anyone has the same problem, please PM me with pictures so I can send them to the printer and make a complain.
Thanks.
Since I am here, I mind as well answer a few of the questions above -
Kentdog - the “Ryu drawing” your friend get you is most likely to be the Dark Ryu limited print. Jo did not do any sketches at the show and nor does she “pre-did” anything.
Regarding the Ultimate Edition signing - signatures are always free at the UDON booth. But becoz different people havd different preferences, some want their books signed, some wanted them totally mint with no signatures, we do not automatically sign people’s books on purchase. Please feel free to ask the crew to sign your items next time you see us at cons.
Regarding the commissions, sketchbooks, and sketches - Because of the crazy line ups, we can only doing sketches with the purchase of a UDON Sketch book. Its a package of 20 bucks - a 48 page full color book plus a sketch by an artist your choice. The sketch you get is a bust up shot, and you can request to do it on the first page of the sketchbook, or anywhere you like (like in your own sketchbook, or on the first page of the Ultimate Edition, etc). The artists are doing private commissions in the range of 60 - 100 bucks, depending on the complexity of the request. The commissions are big 11 X 17 full size drawings.
Holy Crap! It’s Erik!
Quick, when’s the regular retail Ultimate Edition coming out???
Good to see you back, Erik :). Thanks for clearing things up, I guess I’ll just have to wait and see what my friend got me. I figured at first it was a print, but she was so sure that it wasn’t that it got me thinking. Oh well.
I may be able to go to SDCC next year. I was hoping I would be able to bring some SF#00 issues to get sketched on (back covers) like I did during Wizard World Chicago 2004. Do you think it won’t be possible unless I buy a $20 comic for each sketch I want? I was hoping it would be one of those $5/ticket/sketch deals again.
Switcher, I heard the softcover is coming out in either September or October of this year. By the way, I think I caught some of your SF art on a fan website. I remember an Akuma and a Ken drawing, both of which I really liked.
Erik, do you have a high res version of the Ryu softcover Ultimate Edition?
Hi Erik!
You mentioned “private commissions” - very interested!! Are you talking about requests made at conventions only? Or is it possible to request by email or something?
I’m sure the manufacturing was fine…I was just too dumb to lug it around saturday and wait in line for a couple hrs under the fierce San Diego heat.
Actually, I would think books would be made to withstand this sort of thing.
Have any idea what website that was at?
I went and checked my copies here. Tried pulling the pages apart and it seems ok on the 4 copies I have in the office. I will PM you on this matter to follow up.
regarding private commissions, we can only do them at cons. As after con time, we have to get back to our regular work schedule so we cannot commit on doing the extra commissions. Catch you guys next at the Toronto Con Sept 1-3!
Er… maybe this just seems to happen to me… I hate to be the one always complaining… I really do like a lot of what UDON does.
My Book’s pages just fell out. It not like I was abusing it or anything. I was just sitting there reading with it open… and a clump of pages came out.
Soooo I suggest waiting for a Softcover version to actually read, cuz yeah… I’m sure I’m the stupid isolated incident this happened to… but I caution people who bought the book to be REAL CAREFUL when reading and re-reading it. Back to the shelf till the Softcover comes out…
edit
Err I should learn to read other people’s posts… So I am not the only one. Phew… I’ll make like with the pictures…
hm… anybody else has the same problem? If so, I need to reflect that to the printer. So far, we have 2 out of 500 books out there…
