Yeah just make posters and put them up for now. I think it would probably in our best interest to keep our first tourney small-ish since we are tourney hosting scrubs right now.
Dennis, that video is the reason that I’m learning Ken. Too bad Ken is terrible (except for the kara throw that everyone loves).
We gotta decide on an actual time to hold the tournament before we can start making posters and advertising :looney:
Alright well I switched out all of the fucked up buttons, so SF4 should be good for like a week…I think the sanwas should be arriving soon.
While this tourney sounds good, and Marty says he can help on friday’s, I highly suggest that you raise the tourney entry fee, 2 bucks isn’t worth it. You should make the entry at least 5 bucks.
[quote=noontide;5954509Well, I’m sold. Which area of Davis do you live in Cameron?[/quote]
South Davis, El Macero area by the Nugget.
I have a class from 3-4, please no 3pm tourney.
Friday’s, is it going to be a weekly tournament?
What do you mean by “not worth it”? I kinda wanted the tourney to encourage everyone to play, hence the low price of participation.
I was hoping we would get 2 bucks from each player that would go to the MU so we could run the machine on free play. I didn’t really want to involve any sort of cash prizes, just some sort of cheezy trophy for the winner (like a WWF champ belt). Anyways, Dan or Marty, is there a time I can stop by so we can talk about planning this?
So far Friday at 4 sounds good.
I vote we make it bi-weekly or maybe monthly. If they’re too frequent it kinda kills the significance, ya know? That said, I’m curious to hear other people’s opinions.
If Dan thinks its too cheap, just make it 3 bucks. That way, its not too high or too low.
I like the low buy-in, but then again that’s because I want more of these randoms becoming more than just randoms (like the Akuma guy who put Eric Choi on the receiving end of a match-win Raging Demon )
Keep it at $2. It’s not that much more expensive than just playing regular games (esp if we do double elim).
Well I’m trying to figure out if he means “not worth it” in the sense that the winners won’t be getting much cash or not worth it for the MU to run it.
This
Whatever is fine. 5 dollars seems okay to me. All of us are already spending $0.60 a game. If it doesn’t work out…well, at least we’ll know better for next time. Lots of people have sf4 hype though since it’s a brand new game, so I don’t think there’ll be a low turnout.
I’m okay with paying 5, but I know some of the more casual arcade-goers(?) might shy away from paying that “high” of an entry fee.(though most of us who post here probably waste waaay more than $5 on a good/bad/whatever day).
Also, I hope this tourney involves more than just SF4 lets not forget all the other games that gave us so many GOOD TIMES. Like: CvS2, MvC2, and SF3, etc.
I think I can take the CvS2 one with all you guys getting rusty from playing so much SF4.
Maybe low-entry fee for all games will make the turnout decent. I don’t really care.
I just want tourneys!:annoy:
Oh shit, I remember that guy. It was hard to get past him with the air fireballs while I was turtling. I probably would’ve done better if I just closed my eyes and started moving the joystick around in circles while pressing buttons cause att, I didn’t know what to do. I also think it’d be cool to have more people participate and play rather than spectating.
I shouldn’t skim the posts. Thinking on what you and Jack have said, it does kind of make sense to make it just 2 dollars if it’s for muga, and not a pot. Still whatever you guys decide would probably be fine for a first sf4 tourney
You’d think I’d be the most pumped about tournaments because of the prize: a WWF wrestling belt. I guess I need more TRAINING. WHO WANTS TO WRESTLE!?
Jack
I think I read your initial post wrong. My bad. If you want to make the entry fee 2 bucks and then give the MUGA the total, I'm sure that would be fine. I was under the impression that the pot would be split up for the winners (therefor making the winning amount low, and not worth it).
I highly recommend that after this first tourney that you bump up the entry fee and run a traditional split pot.
In the past we ran biweeklies and the turnout was pretty strong. When I tried to run weeklies, attendance began to drop, so I suggest biweeklies/monthlies.
Is dere any good players at SFIV down MUGA? Came down dere looking for sum competition but came out dissappointed =/
umm…seriously, who the fuck are you?
There won’t be any “serious” competition at the MUGA until later in the afternoon, if not the evening. Srry 2 dissappoint u dere…
Paying 5 bucks for parking to play on weekdays suck anyone know any strats to avoid this?
LPN, you should play popo187. He will give you a run for your money. I have lost too many times for only a few trips to MU. His guile is beastly.
Popo park downtown at like B and 2nd/3rd. It’s like a five minute walk to campus.
Most spots around are 1-2 hour downtown if you can find 'em, just check the times cuz Davis PD are assholes. Otherwise you can park anywhere near a bus stop and your CSUS ID should get you to campus for free.
