UCD MUGA thread

Is there any remote chance that UCD will get BlazBlue this winter?

Yay! Nice to see a revival with dan comming back to the MU.

Dan, I have some questions maybe you can answer to the best of your ability:

  • Do you know for certain of SF4 will be ordered? I heard you need to order a set of 4 cabinets or something.

  • Is there any possibility for having a head2head setup for any of the popular games? I think you just need 1 CPS board for 2 screens (maybe I’m wrong, u can correct me if so), connecting 2 monitors with a cable. Then again, there are space issues, but I haven’t been to MU in forever so…

  • I think most of the old players are still around lurking like Tanaka and Payaso, but they have no reason to play, and outside players have no reason to travel to UCD to play. With some good marketing, are you planning on holding tournaments in the future?

A good option for using Japanese style joysticks/buttons is because of the price of the units. Since I’m assuming SF4 will get the hell played out of it, and the repairs are in your hands, and not Patton vending, they are a very effective and cheap (vs p360s) way to replace parts. That, and other important factors. Factors such as the future of arcade games going Japanese parts (that’s the future plans for all future fighting game releases in USA apparently), competitive high level play (technical stuff on execution), and starting a new fighting-game community. Most console players nowadays use Japanese sticks, unless your a mvc2 player and can’t comprehend :P. I believe this is a really great time to get people into fighting games once again, as it used to be back then.

Anyways, those are my questions and 2cents for the MU, let me know what you guys think…

I’ll be joining the UC Davis crowd pretty soon when school starts (I’ll be a frosh this coming September 25). Hope to see you guys around. I play Hugo (default color).

I’ll ask my friend and see. He works there. Jonathan, in case you know him.

Although I really want Street Fighter 4 to come, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s not here.

For real?! $21,000?

It is coming to UC Davis. According to my friend who works there, “New games (big ones) come in bi-annually (summer and winter). Which game we get varies…first…by interest [and] second by our budget. Tekken 6 was dropped in favor of SF4 mostly because the industry reports for Tekken 6 weren’t so good. It took us some work to get SF4. So that ends the budget for the next 6 months or so. I suppose I could pitch the idea to my boss if it’s (Blaz Blue) popular. Bug Dan and Marty about it.” - Jonathan

From the times I went to MUGA, it did seem kind of slow. Even without SF4 and Tekken 6 and BlazBlue, I still can’t wait for Fall Quarter. Hopefully everyone will be back and some newcomers too to play in the tournies.

edit

Fucking Awesome then! Hopefully, MUGA breaks even or profits from SF4.

Yeah, SFIV cabinets are crazy expensive, even though hardware-wise they’re only like a thousand dollars since it’s pretty much a PC running emulation software. Cacpom is pretty much hustling everyone for their money.

I can only hope BlazBlue makes it to MUGA… and if SFIV can definitely make it to MUGA, I’m pretty sure BlazBlue could due to its inevitable lower price. While it may not be as big in the US as Street Fighter, I’m pretty sure since it’s a new, next gen game that it’ll pick up speed rather quickly. Coopa talk to your friend/Dantron talk to your boss about it; you’ll probably get more details and useful information from the Aksys Games guys on SRK (shoot them a PM I suppose).

Hell, if UCD gets BlazBlue, I would even do ranbats for it if possible. Davis is a great location for Sac players and bay area players that would want to get into the game.

Any future possibilities of Tatsunoko vs Capcom? Game seems pretty crazy and looks like it’d pull a crowd. Slap the SF4 cab right in the middle of the dark room imo so games are more hype :stuck_out_tongue:

Man this thread is blowing up…

I will attempt to keep the rumors to a minimum. We are in the process of getting SF4, this process may take a while as the university has to approve a bunch of stuff and they can take their time. Please note the price of the two boards is around 14 grand, the university doesn’t like to spend money, so this approval is not guaranteed, but it is likely.

The cabinets will be head to head with 42 inch HD LCD/Plasmas in them, which we are in the process of building. I realize that many people now enjoy jap style joysticks (especially 3S players because they would play with a bull penis if the japanese said it was cool and more precise) and we may put them in, but we do have an abundance supply of 360 sticks laying around, so that is still up in the air.

Popo, glad to see your still around. You still beasting with Honda? Tanaka drops by about once a week during the school year, while I think Tony is in the bay and still plays in tourneys occasionally.

We will have tourneys again this fall, I don’t know which days I can run them so well see if I can get someone to help out.

Blazblu is definitely a possibility. The hardware is priced correctly (unlike SF4), and the game looks fantastic, how it plays IDK.

noontide, things will definitely pick up in the fall, we are quite busy during the school year, especially around lunch. drop on by and introduce yourself.

I was just at the MU and Micheal Jackson’s Moonwalker was not there :frowning:

Nah, Jonathan doesn’t post here, but he knew about Dan and Marty. That’s why he made his quote like that. Lol. You and I should play 3s sometime, but I won’t be for awhile.

Oh, and, hello Dan~

I’ve got a nice surprise in store in a couple of weeks so don’t worry…

Dan - do you guys have sooooo many P360s that you are able to sell some (2 to be exact) ?

Edit - Fuck, might as well ask about buttons to.

Basically I want to replicate your CVS2 set-up. The wonky angles on MVC2 always take me a second to get used to.

Yeah Dan, it’s been forever and I haven’t seen Tanaka or you in agessss.

In terms of gaming, I’ve been going down to the bay area at a friend’s built-arcade called keystone2 every few weeks. It’s great there!

I’ll be leaving for Japan hopefully next year Fall semester to study abroad… that is, study 3rd strike and ST. mwahahah  It feels like adding a year to graduate if I do it, but I figure that it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Hope to see you soon!

We do have a few p360s, I don’t think we can give you them (you can order em off HAPP though). We do have a bunch of buttons we can give you, but they aren’t the convex type (which we have on the CVS2/MVC2 machine) so mashing/that magneto fiinger slide infinite thing is difficult. You can order those off of HAPP too. It’ll probably cost you like 150 bucks to get the setup right, but it makes a big difference. Or you could try the jap style stuff which is cheaper.

yeah its definitely been a while, stop by for the tourneys if you get a chance. I’ve heard about Keystone from a couple of people. I’ll probably open my garage up to others in about 6 months (assuming the wife doesn’t give me too much shit). I have 5 cabinets right now all in various conditions and plan on opening it up to others when I get the LCDs in.

good luck in japan, I doubt you’ll be back. I’ve had two friends go over there for a semester and never come back.

yo guys is MUGA crackin this semester or what? what are good days to drop in?

It’s still summer session at Davis so it’s a tad bit slow. If you get lucky you can find a good session between 12-5 on Mon - Thurs. Friday is typically a wash.

However, fall quarter begins in about 3 weeks. Anytime then from probably 11 to 6 or so and you’ll be able to find steady competition.

Any news on SF4 or new cabs/screens for any of the games as of late? I hear coinopexpress has a few pcb’s for sale but I’m not gonna lie, they cost a fortune .

I’ll be sure to spend my money if MUGA decides to drop 12k+ on it :wgrin:

Just wanted to say nice matches to the people I played.
Ended up making two new friends there, so cool stuff.

I’d also like to hear if there’s any new news about the possible new games.
