Has anyone read the comic? From the looks of it most of the “readers” just wanted to see Tyrese. These chicks will get this one book to get his autograph and be done. At least Tyrese tried to get “new readers”. Hey it just may work out.
Well here is the launch party of his “comic”

Interview article here
NINJA EDIT: Well I just finished reading the book and well it is crap. It is very violent and the characters are well kind of bland. It is all over the place. No form of fluidity at all.
I think the comic is more notable for the hubbub Tyrese created in trying to “market” it. A few months back, there were some pretty interesting articles about his overbearing approach. MF Grimm quit working for him because of the foolishness.
I don’t even have to bother reading the comic to know it’s crap. One look at the cover and reading a brief synopsis of the concept is enough to send my Common-Sense tingling.
He gave an interview this week saying Mayhem is the first comic on the Iphone, the fool. They also made a big deal about the comic selling over 10,000 copies on release day… but didn’t mention that they were all bought by Tyrese’s local comic store. Outside of that store, it sold less than 6,000 copies.
Seriously, someone shoot the guy already.
And yes, i’ve read the 1st issue. Terrible, terrible art, confusing narrative, awful B-action script. My favorite quote:
You’ve got to love the COMMA SPLICE.
What makes it worse is that the book starts in a “china town” type of restaurant and surprise surprise the restaurant is full of martial artist and bodyguards with guns and the owner of this restaurant is Mr chang whom works for a powerful white business tycoon named Big X
that is the whole story if you add the guns and the one liners and him “praying to god to forgive him” for killing people.
Anyway I wanted to make this the “image comics” thread but i was unsure if anyone read the books. Other than spawn and maybe invincible that is all i can think of.
Who the fuck is this guy?
Some actor or celebrity or someone with enough fame and pride to think his own influence is all that’s needed to produce a good comic book.
He was in Transformers!
And Transformers 2!
Come on!
All I know is that it makes me cringe whenever I watch some non-comic-book-nerd handle comic books. Like in all those movies where this guy’s supposed to be a big nerd, reading comics alone in his room…only he’s like bending the spine and creasing the pages and everything…completely ruins the illusion for me.
well…
…he is right about getting non-regulars to buy his comics.
Virgin comics had that fuckhead Deepak Chopra and Nicolas Cage’s son (IIRC Nic Cage was co-author) to make shit comics as well last year (or was it two years ago?).
